Nightmare! My HDD suddenly formatted!!!
Guys, I'm really gonna suicide... Just an hour ago I left my notebook running on windows XP, and when I went home... the I:\ from my external hdd couldn't be read... when I check my computer, I read it's unformatted. Omg... please tell me this is not true... I have 25 gb of music files which haven't been backed up... and not to mention I lost all my installation program I put in I:\. But I found it really strange... the J:\ which contains anime is alright...
Please somebody, help me. I'm really desperate... I wonder if there is a way to save my files before I really format it... My HDD is 80 gb seagate barracuda, an internal hdd used as extrnal, connected to my computer using a NEC PCMCIA card to support usb 2.0 transfer. Jam it back in, in the dark.

Before touching anything, give TestDisk a try. It's one of the most powerful data recovery utilities I've ever encountered. It's primarily designed to retrieve lost (or unreadable) partitions.
For file recovery, Ontrack Easy Recovery Pro is the way to go, hands down. I don't think it excels at partition errors, though. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
whew, I see some small ray of hope here... I have used this utility, I was surprised that It actually found my unformatted partition! Now, what should I do after the scanning finished?
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

All I can tell is that you need to select the damaged partition, recreate and save it, but if you're not sure what exactly you're doing, I suggest stopping here or you might run the risk of losing your data forever.
It's very complicated to assist you with this over the internet, so I advise you to get a professional to look into your problem. Most amazing jew boots |
hmmm,if driver I was Fat32 will can recovey 75% & if NTFS will be 20% .If show you unformatted partition I think you have bad sector on booting HDD try to use HDD Regenerator 1.51 for dos for fix bad sector.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
I'm sorry for the trouble. But I really hope someone could help me at this time.
![]() I have finished scanning the hdd. Now I have options to "write". Is this the option I must choose? Most amazing jew boots

Yes, that should write the restored partition structure to the MBR, rendering the partition data to be accessible again.
It's been quite a while since I've used TestDisk, but this is basically what you need to do. How ya doing, buddy? |

In fact, as long as you do not do anything to the damaged drive; you should be able to recover most (if not all) of the data. I accidently formatted one of my drives, and using recovery software all of the data were recovered.
