Rise of Legens Demo

Did anyone else download this? I downloaded it and played it for 2 minutes before closing it. The gameplay was slow and the graphics were horrible and pixelated. Looks like a game that would've come out in 2002 or something. For those that have played it for a little bit, should I give it a second chance?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I did the same... I had to close it after a moment since it was so slow it was almost unplayable. I don't have a super fast computer, but it's capable of running an 8 player AoE III game at a decent speed, without some graphic options... which made me notice the RoL demo didn't let me configure it to run with 16-bit graphics, only 32. I guess that was the biggest problem.

But it's only a demo... maybe they'll fix the speed issue in the full version.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Yeah I doubt it's your computer. It's not optimized yet so it's running like crap on everyone's computer. The performance wasn't what bugged me though. Yes there was slowdown, but the gameplay itself was actually really slow and boring. =\ I might give it another go later.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Oh, god damn. I almost created another thread because you spelled "Legends" wrong. :/ Search didn't pick it up.

Anyway, this game deserves its own thread, aptly named "Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends" but I'll let the mods decide what to do first.

I didn't download the demo -- the demo discs came into my store today, so I snagged one there. EB and GameStop should have them in every store now. And I practically obsessed over it for 9 hours.

The demo rocks. I don't know what race you play as, but they're cool. Three elements -- sand, fire, and glass -- rule this particular demo. Each element has unique units that can be built from them. Glass, for example, builds glass cannons, which are basically tanks. A unique fire unit is a flying dragon, and sand produces a scorpion that can basically maul through minor units.

Construction is a bit of an oddity for this race, but I don't know if it holds true for the other two. You have basically a landfill-like pit that, when you build Magus, Market, or Military Districts expands to build the district. The districts are what allow the player to increase their basic RTS necessities; population, wealth, caravan limit a la Rise of Nations, among other things.

There's a bit of an Age of Empires 3 aspect to the game as well. IN AoE3, there are randomly placed Trading Posts and Indian settlements that can be acquired. In RoL, neutral trading posts and cities can be taken over RoN-style, with a very brief cooldown period. It doesn't make you wait 2.5 minutes, just go at it. Taking over these towns allows you to build up another set of districts. The preset town placement reminds me of Age of Mythology if I remember correctly.

In the demo, there are four Hero units, each with vastly different playing styles. S'all good though, since they're fun to play.

Ultimately, and to cut this preview short since I really need some sleep now, this game looks to be combining the vest elements of Rise of Legends' predecessors -- Age of Empires, Rise of Nations, and Age of Mythology. I say predecessors because Microsoft published all of them. But I digress. This game kicks fucking ass.

Expect some rather horrendous load times in the demo. System requirements for the demo stand the same as the full version, save for the demo oddly requires 512 MBs of RAM, while the full version says only 256. So just swallow your impatience, let it install, and let the load times roll.

GO GET IT.

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

What you see on screenshots suggests a great RoN. But that demo... It was so slow! Really, I can't judge anything *real* about the game, I couldn't stand to play it for being so slow.

I hope the full version does have less requeriments than the demo... Although it doesn't make a lot of sense... wouldn't the full version be more loaded with stuff than a demo?

I was speaking idiomatically.

Yes it would, but on the demos creen it said the game would only require 256MB of RAM at minimum to play. Beta demos are usually always a bit slower -- the polish comes after the substance, so to speak.

Most amazing jew boots
