Secret of Mana "Favorite Places"
Where are your favorite places? Obviously the whole game is a fantastic experience filled with many great places, but one of my favorite places is the very beginning of the game. There is nothing like the summer air passing over the green grass and the cascading waterfalls hitting the quarry below. Those little rabites are the cutest things ever. Their buck-teeth kill me. The music couldn't possibly be any better. Everything is in perfect 16 bit harmony.
Jam it back in, in the dark.

This thread will be re-opened since I have come to the conclusion that discussing Secret of Mana places can be pretty cool in fact. I would be thrilled if you could edit your opening post a little bit, 'Mana Knight', so that it actually looks like a thread or something like that. You could tell us your favorite place!
Do you know the fog mountain, I always liked it there. There's nowhere I can't reach.

Pandora while people where still cursed. That music is beutiful.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
The start part. I always seem to love the starting out place of a game. It's where it all begins. There's even a waterfall nearby. Anywhere with moogles is fine also. =)
How ya doing, buddy? |
I liked the music and atmosphere of the Upper Lands. Stepping from Spring to Winter to Fall all in one place was pretty cool to me.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
I liked Gaia's Navel for being a pain to circle around whenever you wanted to get into the cave in the middle. The circular design was neat.
The forest with the Sprite Village was fun too, because the music when you go there the first time is so cheerful, but then the pink rabites start to gang bang you for massive damage. Upon subsequent visits, the tables have turned and you can kill them easily. I like the changing seasons thing too. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
The whole beginning part, from the first town you're in to Pandora, to Gaia's Navel and Dyluck's town (forgot the name), and all the grassy plains in between, is my favorite aggregate area. I've run all over that shit forever; something about the music and the breezy grasses and all just makes me thrilled.
Also I think it was the mountaintop where the Dark Castle and Jecht's cave is located, for some reason I really got attached to that. Maybe it's because when you start out on it at the bottom, you see all the treetops in the distant backgrounds, but when you re-emerge from Jecht's cave after passing his test, there's lofty clouds behind you. You're high up. I'm such a nerd. I love your avatar, by the way, Mana Knight. Having a screenshot as an avatar, that's awesome. =D How ya doing, buddy? |

The Mana Fortress, of course. And the Pure Lands.

I'm all about the Pure Land, was probably my favorite location in any console rpg for quite some time.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I’d have to go with the Ice Continent. I loved the sparkling trees and gems with that great background song. I also really liked how the village was inhabited by walrus-people and that Santa and Rudolph had a house up there.
Secret of Mana = My favorite game as a kid and perhaps of all time. Great graphics, controls, music, etc. Too bad the other mana games never lived up to SoM's standards This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
I have to side with Lurker. The entire opening foray was beautiful. It just makes me want to keep going forever. The light, breezy music combined with the innocence of not quite knowing what was going to happen next. It just creates a feeling of true hope, only to be shattered later. Beautifully executed.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() John Mayer just asked me, personally, through an assistant, to sing backup on his new CD. |
