Xbox murder trial to begin

Quote:
The trial of three defendants accused of killing six people over an Xbox is set to begin next week. Troy Victorino, 29, Robert Cannon and Michael Salas, both 20, and Jerone Hunter, 19, are accused of beating six acquaintances to death with aluminum baseball bats during Victorino's attempt to reclaim an Xbox that he left behind after being kicked out of a house he had been squatting in. One of the victims apparently took the Xbox and some of Victorino's other belongings with her when she moved out. Cannon has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the attacks, and will be testifying against the other three in exchange for a life sentence. The other three defendants face the death penalty.

Attorneys for the defendants have attempted to get the trial moved from Orlando to south Florida, arguing that a fair trial is all-but-impossible given the amounts of pretrial publicity and the sensational nature of the crime.

Victorino and the other defendants had apparently threatened their victims in the days ahead of the slayings, as he was determined to get back the Xbox at any cost. He and the other three allegedly broke into a residence where some of the victims were sleeping, beating them all to death with baseball bats before departing with the console that one of the victims had taken with her after she moved.

At the time of the slayings Victorino was on probation for a near-deadly assault committed in 1996. Just a week before the slayings, Victorino was arrested for punching a man, which violated the terms of his parole. His probation officer's failure to have him jailed after the assault resulted in him and three of his supervisors being fired shortly after the murders occurred.

With the topic of videogame violence and its possible real-world ramifications a hot topic of conversation these days, the trial is already drawing a lot of media attention since an Xbox was involved. It could just as easily be a laptop, a TV set, or a stereo that occasioned the killings. This is not videogame-related violence. This is "someone has some of my stuff and I'm going to kill them in the process of getting it back" violence.
Source.

Save the "XBOX IS HUEG, LOL XBOX KILLS" comments. It's been done. I really have no comment on this except, wow. I don't know why somebody would go to such an extreme length just to retrieve back a few belongings and an xbox.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Over an Xbox?? Damn... Must be a Halo addict, because I can't see any other Xbox game having such an influence on a person's behavior.

Yes, it was clearly one particular video game that caused this man with a long history of violence to use violence while seeking to reclaim his property. Dumbass.

I was speaking idiomatically.

The $180 price tag on an Xbox is a lot when you're a worthless excuse for a human being, one who likely has never made more than minimum wage in his life.

Obviously this person was capable of such behavior, as evidenced by the fact that he was on probation for assaulting someone ten years ago.

Not to mention that people killed each other long before video games were invented, as evidenced by such things any war fought before 1975 or any murder which took place before 1975. People are capable of killing each other and have always been capable of killing each other. The person, place, or thing which sets them off may change, but the fact that people are capable of it, and require little motivation stays the same.

edit: why did they use baseball bats, why didn't they just drop the console on each victim's head, seriously.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

They must have been some pretty big Steel Battalion fans. Even then, that game is only worth killing one person at best for, not this.

It's a pity the guy was already an ex-convict well before the xbox was out..

"the media was quick to paint the horrific crime as another case of game-inspired violence. This, despite the fact that Victorino had been in jail nearly a full decade before the Xbox even hit the market."

Oh of course, the media. Heaven forbid that violent TV or movies could have such an effect on people. *cough*

But really, six people? That's not game-related violence, that's serious mental issues.

I want to kill those fuckers. I want to FUCKING KILL them. What they did is sickening and wrong. They deserve to die horribly and painfully. I'd cut up the leader (I'm assuming Victorino is the leader) with a chainsaw, stab his temples with two bowie knives and then shoot him with a sawed-off double barrel shotgun and then stomp on his corpse and then smear his remains on the floor so I'd demoralize the group. After that, I'd throw the stolen Xbox at Cannon Man and then light him on fire with a molotov cocktail and then break his fucking skull with a sledgehammer and then I'd stab the other 20 year old guy in the eye with a pick axe and then run him over with my car and blow up my car to obliterate his remains. After that I'd just blow off the last standing guy's kneecaps off with a .45 caliber pistol and beat him to a pulp with a shovel.
It sounds to me like someone should explain to you the difference between fantasy and reality.

I know what the difference is between reality and fiction, jerk. >: (

I'm sorry, I get very pissed off everytime I read about some senseless murder like this one. I just feel so helpless reading about how some sicko just goes in and kills some people for some useless crap. I'll calm down now.

In fact, I'll do better, I'll just get rid that part I wrote.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Man, some people in this world need help, especially those who would kill over an Xbox, or any gamesystem. Killing is wrong, especially over something as trivial as a piece of entertainment hardware. I'm sure that the Xbox wasn't the largest thing on the list of things to get pissed off over. The fact that an Xbox was on the list meant instant orgasm for reporters, cause video game related violence is a hot topic.

Something tells me he didn't kill these people over the xbox. He must of had a problem with these people for a while... that tells me he killed them simply over the matter of principle. He was tired of the BS and wanted to end it once and for all. He said "fuck the xbox" I have to show these fools they can't keep doing "this" to me. blam... murder *sigh*

I seriously doubt he gave a shit about the xbox

I'm willing to bet that the issue goes beyond the fact that it was an X-Box. Those of you saying "zomg why kill someone over an xbox?" have probably never had anything expensive stolen from them. If you have, consider how angry you were, and then multiply that anger to the level of a convict.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Why are we even arguing about it being because of the xbox? Him and his mates got kicked out of a house, one of them is an ex-convict, and they thought "hey, lets go kill those guys and we'll pick up my xbox while we're there"..

Now you see why XBOX is bad... Why PS2 don't kill people or people don't kill for PS2? Yeah most of you will say "Cause it's not worth it." But what is the purpose of killing for XBOX if you will not be able to play it again? Maybe in jail you can have your XBOX with you =)? Anyway they'll be dead by now.
