I got noms in two back-to-back weeks? Seems like we're getting short. *looks at nom queue* Wow, we are.

Also, totally not fair that Praying Hands is going up against my nom; it is too good of a track.

Additional Spam:
Here's another nom from me while I'm at it.

=== Nominator's Name ===
* Album: Acrobat Mission (SNES Game Rip)
* Artist: Tomo Yamashita, Don
* Track #: 02 (on the SPC set)
* Track Title: Countryside
* Year: 1992
* Additional Info: This game was also on the arcade, but the SNES version of this song is better than the arcade version.
* Source: Game profile: Acrobat Mission ~ SNESmusic.org, also Wikipedia and GameFAQs.
* File Location: nom folder

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

SotW's been having a shortage of nominators lately. There's less than 16 individuals that usually nominate, so there's bound to be back-to-back weeks for some people. (I also recall having a 4-in-a-row a few weeks back.)

  • Album: Drakan: Order of the Flame (Red Book Audio)
  • Artist: B.L.A.S.T. (Barry Leitch), Tim Ebling
  • Disc #: 1 (of 1)
  • Track #: 8
  • Track Title: Track 8
  • Year: 1999

Akumajo Dracula Best 2 - Praying Hands (Cloud Castle BGM) I haven't really been paying attention to what people have been nominating; if I had, I would have protested this one since it's so damn common and extrensively remixed throughout a popular series (especially here on GFF). That's not to say that the music is bad, especially here in its purest form--and this from someone who has a rather dim view of 'Vaniamuzik in general.

Championsheep Rally (Game Rip) - In the Country Hard to beleive that the guy responsible for the super-classical, super-choral Alone in the Dark also made something like this. It's a nice bit of faux-70's chase music, not super-substantial but fun.

Hyper Zone (Game Rip) - Neo Megalopolis This is the sort of oldschool that's never done a whole lot for me. The melodic interludes are nice, and there's certainly plenty o' beats, but the overall sound is just so...samey to my ears.

Landing Gear / Side By Side - Touch Down! This sort of fusion/funk/what you will always plays well here but never really engages me. I will say that the flute melody and the rhythm breakdown that immidiately follow are super-cool, but the lazier sections before and after, plus the random grunts, make the thing a wash.

NICE LIFE AS WIFE - Mischief This one has been in my nomqueue for a while. Kikuta's always good in a pinch, even if he's been reduced to working on games of this ilk. His trademark rhythmic creativity (finger pianos and all!) is in evidence here alongside a wonderfully, uh, "innocent" melody.

Resonance of Fate (Game Rip) - Albona (extended) CHz and Tails really get off on leaving that "extended" tag on songs I've looped for the greater good, don't they I've been on a film noir/saxophone kick of late, and this song is brilliant at both. Combining blasts of smokey sax melody with modern electronics and drive makes for a great show and a fine intro to Tanaka's superior part of the RoF OST.

Ten Plants - KARINA ~hichimenahochi~ Do do dooo do do-do-do! Do do, do do do, do-do do, DO, do. Doooo, do do do-do. Do, do do. Do

Time Trax (Genesis Game Rip) - Title Some nifty stuff here and there. Could use a stronger melody to support some kickass rhythmic stuff (like those low church bells!).

The Point Spread
Albona - 3 pts.
Mischief - 2 pts.
In the Country - 1 pt.

nommin'
Album: Flower: Original Soundtrack from the Video Game
Artist: Vincent Diamante
Track #: 3
Track Title: Sailing on the Wind
Date: April 8, 2010
Additional Info: Could be a contender for "Epic Proportions" theme week but I JUST COULDN'T WAIT

Some big name composers this week.

3 points - Akumajo Dracula Best 2 - Praying Hands (Cloud Castle BGM)
2 points - Hyper Zone (Game Rip) - Neo Megalopolis
1 points - Time Trax (Genesis Game Rip) - Title

Praying Hands is like one of the best Game Boy tunes ever. I have to give it the 3 pointer here, even above my own nomination.

2 points: Hyper Zone (Game Rip) - Neo Megalopolis
2 points: Ten Plants - KARINA ~hichimenahochi~
1 point: Landing Gear / Side By Side - Touch Down!
1 point: Resonance of Fate (Game Rip) - Albona (extended) (long version) (looped) (lengthier rendition than the one on the soundtrack)

I was unbelievably close to nominating Miki Higashino's monster of a track from Ten Plants (there's no other way to describe it), but KARINA is just way too damn good. Unbelievable instrumental, and I love that vocal melody.

Meanwhile over here we have Jun Ishikawa being JUN GODDAMN ISHIKAWA. Neo Megalopolis is everything I love about him. Definitely one of his best non-Kirby compositions.

I have absolutely no idea what's happening in In the Country but I think I like it.

Also, Kouhei Tanaka rules. As much as this week rules. Which is a lot.

argh sorry: Akumajo Dracula Best 2 - Praying Hands (Cloud Castle BGM)

"Mischief" is a personal favourite of mine, with its great rhythmic qualities and wacky combination of tuned percussion and exotic undercurrents. "Neo Megalopolis" sounds like a badass Kirby tune which is of course amazing. I really disliked "In the Country" though, sorry guys. Overall, an unremarkable yet decently average week.

(I don’t know the meaning of the word “soon”)

In the Country: I find it fascinating when I am able to listen to a song 3 times in a row and still say to myself: “the hell just happened”.

2 points: Neo Megalopolis
2 points: Albona (extended)
1 point: KARINA ~hichimenahochi~
1 point: Title
Missed: Touch Down!, Mischief

Great week! All of the tracks I awarded points to could’ve given last weeks’ hero Scramble Attack a run for its money.

I heard that Kohei Tanaka was a VGM legend way back when, though I’m not familiar with anything by him. Hearing Albona (extended) however, damnnnnnn now I’m extremely curious. Best use of sax in a long long while. Just ridiculous instrumentation all around (synth bass what). Gotta check out his stuff.

Speaking of stuff I’ve got to check out, how have I still yet to listen to Ishikawa’s non-Kirby works I don’t even know. Neo Megalopolis is just so good, like a superior F-Zero tune if that’s even possible. So much awesome going on in this tune it’s impossible to talk about it all.

Speaking of 16-bit goodness, hearing Tim Follin rock the FM Synth is a treat. Don’t think I’ve heard a Genesis tune by him before, honestly I didn’t even know Title was by him until I saw the tags afterwards, even though his style is so blatant here.

KARINA ~hichimenahochi~ sounds like 70s gameshow music, with added “doo do dooo do do oooooo”s. This is a very very good thing. Super impressive compositional prowess shown here, but this is to be expected with THELONIOUS MONKEES and their team of superhumans.

The other 4 tunes can’t match, but that’s ok, not much can. I’m sad at the fact that there is no possible way for me to give Touch Down! points though; Funky beats + vocal samples + vintage Zuntata usually equals big hit for me. Praying Hands (Cloud Castle BGM) is good, but not one of the tunes I would’ve chosen from the often overlooked Belmont’s Revenge soundtrack (it’s all about the boss theme “Evil Gods”). And Mischief, well it’s Kikuta, that's good enough for some I guess.

3 Pts.} Time Trax (Genesis Game Rip) - Title
- I seriously was going to nominate this when I got back from a vacation, and then the week I get back I see someone already has...wow. Actually I think the person nominating it looking at the last nomination topic watches my favorites on YouTube or something, so that makes sense. Anyways an amazing track, as expected considering the composer. One of the most complex uses of my favorite sound chip. I love the clever effects done with really subtle changes to every channel and stuff. Awesome effects and sounds in this. I also really enjoy the way the synth sweeps sound in this track. Too bad that the recording quality isn't the best, since I don't think that the track actually has ever been recorded at all other than this, with the game having never been released. Amazing stuff overall, I'm probably being repetitive in this description and obnoxious sounding, since I could go on about this if I actually felt in the mood to, which I don't, so I'll stop now. Definitely one of my favorites, and I was incredibly surprised to see it nominated since I was planning to nominate it just when I checked this topic.

1 Pt.} Resonance of Fate (Game Rip) - Albona (extended)

1 Pt.} NICE LIFE AS WIFE - Mischief

1 Pt.} Akumajo Dracula Best 2 - Praying Hands (Cloud Castle BGM)

Voting is closed and nominations are restricted!

1). [19] Resonance of Fate (Game Rip) - Albona
2). [14] Akumajo Dracula Best 2 - Praying Hands (Cloud Castle BGM)
3). [11/7.5] Ten Plants - KARINA ~hichimenahochi~
4-t). [11/7] NICE LIFE AS WIFE - Mischief
4-t). [11/7] Time Trax (Genesis Game Rip) - Title
6). [9] Hyper Zone (Game Rip) - Neo Megalopolis
7). [8] Landing Gear / Side By Side - Touch Down!
8). [7] Championsheep Rally (Game Rip) - In the Country

Aside from the runaway favorite, a pretty evenly matched week. I just about had a coronary when I saw that three tracks had 11 points, but thankfully the bonus points actually worked out this time.

Also I'm going to get rid of that "(extended)" thing when I post the RoF track on the site in a sec. It's already clear that it's not the OST version from the whole "game rip," thing, so that extra differentiator isn't necessary.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
