I was looking through the list of past nominations, and I noticed that nothing from any of the Nanosweep albums has ever been nominated. And I thought to myself, "how is this possible?"

And then I tried to figure out which single track to nominate, and I thought, "ah, well maybe that has something to do with it." So I agonized for a while and bashed my head against a wall a few times and long story short let's just go with this one:
  • Album: NANOSWEEP 6
  • Artist: Keiki Kobayashi
  • Disc #: 1 (of 1)
  • Track #: 3
  • Track Title: 4:00pm
  • Catalogue Number: NS-006
  • Year: 2008
  • Additional Info: Lest anyone forgets that Keiki Kobayashi is totally the man (he's totally the man by the way).

Hope isn't working for me.

Here a youtube version just in case:
YouTube - Umineko no naku koro ni BGM - hope(Ver1.00)

Alien Carnage (Game Rip) - seb7 (opening credits)
This is quite good, I like it. Catchy I wish it could have done more, though, some parts just feel a bit empty.

BANGAI-O SPIRITS Audio Collection Plus - Exploding Bounce
Eh, I feel like I've heard this song a million times before and done better before. Not bad, just average.

Concerto ~ Mitsumete Knight - Lost Timbre
I like the beginning, but it didn't really go anywhere and the melody wasn't strong enough on its own to stay the same.

Dark Reign 2 (Red Book Audio) - In-Game 1
Now this is nice! Love the dark understone throughout the entire song, and the intruments used.

Destroy All Humans! Path of the Furon (Game Rip) - Vegas Baby!
Not my thing.

Live Music by Piano and Strings - 7th Dragon Super Arrange Version - Labyrinth - Jungle Navigation
Same thing with Lost Timbre. It's nice, but it doesn't go anywhere and the melody isn't strong enough to stay the same.

Super Valis IV (Game Rip) - Vecanti
Kind of bland.

Umineko no Naku Koro ni musicbox Blue - hope
I love Hope. This is an example of a slow song that doesn't really change its melody being a good thing, because the melody is fantastic. Instruments are great as well.

Hope - 3 Points
In-Game 1 - 2 Points
seb7 (Opening Credits) - 1 Point

Alien Carnage (Game Rip) - seb7 (opening credits) This is the kind of long, C64-style chiptune that is inexplicably popular. The rhythm's decent enough, but there's not nearly enough going on to justify its bloated length.

BANGAI-O SPIRITS Audio Collection Plus - Exploding Bounce Bounces all over the place, but isn't really all that cohesive or memorable.

Concerto ~ Mitsumete Knight - Lost Timbre Nice, gentle piece with a definite hint of Earthbound's "love theme" in its melody.

Dark Reign 2 (Red Book Audio) - In-Game 1 They nail the dark part of the title pretty well. The Bond-style strings beneath everything are nice, but a lot of the music is just electronic muck and stock effects.

Destroy All Humans! Path of the Furon (Game Rip) - Vegas Baby! Garry Schyman's definitely and up and comer in my book, mixing deadly serious stuff like Bioshock with affable silliness like this. Unlike a lot of stuff that's funk for funk's sake, this uses a gret melody and lots of little nice touches to set an atmosphere and be interesting to hear.

Live Music by Piano and Strings - 7th Dragon Super Arrange Version - Labyrinth - Jungle Navigation The live instruments are nice, and there are parts of the piano and guitar meanderings that are quite nice, but overall the piece is too laid-back and sedate for its own good.

Super Valis IV (Game Rip) - Vecanti Knight's description had me thinking this would be something really zany or creative. Sadly, aside from some nifty synth xylophone, it's pretty much vanilla shmuppery.

Umineko no Naku Koro ni musicbox Blue - hope More decent piano music to close out the week. Like the others, it seems a little thin, albeit with nice parts and ambient qualities.

The Point Spread
Vegas Baby - 3 pts.
Lost Timber - 1 pt.
Jungle Navigation - 1 pt.
Hope - 1 pt.

I know we've been pretty loose with the ol' eligibility guidelines in recent times, but I don't think this guy has any original VGM compositions at all. Definitely none on VGMdb, and I didn't see any info on his homepage mentioning any. (There's one reference to a "BEATMIAMI ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK," but that appears to be a fictional soundtrack concept album.)

Alien Carnage (Game Rip) - seb7 (opening credits) establishes a nice tone of grunge and emptiness with accents of uplifting melody. It's a shame it doesn't do more than what it does, because the direction was really strong with all the different albeit wholly underwhelming sections.

I bought the Bangai sound collection on a whim a couple of years back, and it's always proven to be an entertaining romp whenever I give it a listen. While not a patch on the greats such as SotW veteran "Bangai-O GO!", BANGAI-O SPIRITS Audio Collection Plus - Exploding Bounce still manages to be a typically fun and engaging NON tune, with its chaos adding charm and energy more than any real drawback.

I love the Impressionistic patterns of Concerto ~ Mitsumete Knight - Lost Timbre, which express a magnificent lead melody. The sub-sections are all beautiful in their own way too, with a nice new-agey break at 2:05 with flighty piano being a definite highlight. Subdued, but with enough emotional and musical intricacy to keep one interested! I'm positive this won't be everyone's cup of tea though, especially after being spoilt by "Waterfall" last week. (and orion, I can't say I pick up on any "Love Theme" influences like you did :/)

Dark Reign 2 (Red Book Audio) - In-Game 1 tries to accomplish a whole bunch of stuff and succeed in delivering a range of musical ideas, but the end end product falls a bit flat. The disjointedness of the structure is a turn-off for me, as is the awkward mesh between epic orchestral and electronic bleeps that wasn't woven together by any strong beat, rhythm or melody.

Oww yeah, Destroy All Humans! Path of the Furon (Game Rip) - Vegas Baby! is totally groovin' and fun. The jazz flute is awesome and while there's not a great melody anywhere, it's too enjoyable to not save and consider for points.

The original "Jungle Navigation" is one of my favourite tracks from 7th dragon, and Live Music by Piano and Strings - 7th Dragon Super Arrange Version - Labyrinth - Jungle Navigation does an OK job of updating the tone and feel of it while retaining the core melody. My problem with it is that's it's too sparse and the background effects (including guitar) are somewhat passive, not really adding much to the atmosphere and distracting from the lead instruments more than anything. Still, that melody's too great to ignore.

I'm kinda struggling to write anything about Super Valis IV (Game Rip) - Vecanti since it's disappointingly nondescript and entirely fleeting. It doesn't do anything that offend more or anything, but it absolutely doesn't do anything noteworthy either.

Umineko no Naku Koro ni musicbox Blue - hope is a cut above the millions of sentimental sounding VGM tunes called 'Hope', but still isn't too flash, particularly in contrast to the competition this week. It's pleasant though, and hearing the seagulls actually cry at the end was a nice touch!

what's the POINT of such a mammoth wall of text? D: i don't know

3 points: Concerto ~ Mitsumete Knight - Lost Timbre
2 points: Destroy All Humans! Path of the Furon (Game Rip) - Vegas Baby!
1 point: BANGAI-O SPIRITS Audio Collection Plus - Exploding Bounce
4th: Umineko no Naku Koro ni musicbox Blue - hope
5th: Alien Carnage (Game Rip) - seb7 (opening credits)
6th: Live Music by Piano and Strings - 7th Dragon Super Arrange Version - Labyrinth - Jungle Navigation
7th: Super Valis IV (Game Rip) - Vecanti
8th: Dark Reign 2 (Red Book Audio) - In-Game 1

A decent week, with the common divide between the top three and the rest.

Exploding Bounce is my favorite track from Bangai-O Spirits because of the DRUMKIT EXPLOSION. Seriously some of the most ridiculous programming I have ever heard in VGM, I thrash my ahead along with it every time. Plus there's a NON Melodyâ„¢ that comes completely out of nowhere at 0:45 and kicks you in the teeth. Man I love this tune.

Garry Schyman is one of the coolest dudes in VGM these days. His Bioshock and Dante's Inferno scores are fabulous. I haven't heard any of his Destroy All Humans music, but it's nice to hear him dropping some cheese with this old-school sci-fi tune.

Track: Oregon
Track #: 23 on Killy's gamerip
Catalog #: n/a
Year: 2000

Additional Spam:
Not fond of this week.

2 points: Exploding Bounce
2 points: Vegas Baby!
1 point: In-Game 1
1 point: Lost Timbre
Missed: Vecanti

Hibino is an acoustic genius, as I've said in the BSC. But uhhhhh it's difficult to note that in Labyrinth - Jungle Navigation, though, hearing the copius amounts of Touhou bass in the guitar part. The piano was fine, though the soloing got kinda hackneyed around the end. Wonder how much the source played a part in this. 1:45 - 2:20 was great, though.

Well I've come to associate Umineko no Nako whatev with brilliant soundscapes, but hope was just dull piano work. Everything is done better in the above tune, and I don't even like that song much.

Lost Timbre is part 3 of team melancholic chamber work this week, and a lot better than the above two works. Some really corny flute and piano solo work in some places, but aside from that it's fine.

Glad I can always count on some NON to spice things up. Exploding Bounce is pretty low-tier for him, but not bad at all. Love the ridiculous fake percussion, especially during the intro, though NON's always been good with the fake drums.

As for the rest, In-Game 1 does the orchestral-electronic hybrid thing pretty nicely, though the orchestral part was really weird, and not in a good way. seb7 and Vecanti are pretty insignificant, though I did like the latter a bit, particularly when it "looped" and added an extra accompaniment line for some reason.

lol did Garry Schyman really do Vegas Baby? Because holy crap

Thanks for tying it up, jerk.

Yeah so anyway can't close it up right now because we have a tie for third place. I don't feel entirely comfortable breaking it myself because my own nomination is one of the tracks involved, so let's give it another day to see if anyone else shows up (IF YOU ARE READING THIS AND YOU HAVE NOT VOTED, THEN VOTE), and if not, I'll uh figure something out.
