What a week, boys. Inching up on 175 and we keep managing to outdo ourselves.
(3 points) Fantasy Earth: Zero (Game Rip) - Vinel Island: It screams RPG theme, but you only wish some tracks had this much joy and pep in them. Proof that you can be traditional without being cliched. (2 points) Metal Gear >> Solid Snake Music Compilation of Hideo Kojima/Red Disc - NIGHT FALL: A bit of James Bond in this one. It's got the requisite measured piano and other synths to suggest night, and throws on some eletronic window dressing to add an element of espionage. And the choral samples don't even hinder it at all. A delicious piece of action/exploration music. (1 point) Boktai 3: Sabata's Counterattack (Game Rip) - Racing from Darkness: The intro's the best part of this chiptune, but the rest is also the stuff that fun action tracks are made of. As for the rest: Love the sound of Water Music but it lacks development and doesn't really, um, end. Training has always been one of my favorite tracks from PD, and in weaker weeks it would place. Nothing against the C64 sound with DNA Warrior, but it's buried under better competition. Goonies is fun and bouncy but ultimately disposable. And too much screechy chaos going on, especially with the guitar, in Ice Field. How ya doing, buddy? |
2 Points: DNA Warrior (C64 Game Rip) - Track 1
2 Points: Fantasy Earth: Zero (Game Rip) - Vinel Island 2 Points: pop'n music 10 AC ♥ CS pop'n music 8 - GOONIES "R" GOOD ENOUGH Avoiding full-on nom bias this week becase Track 1 and Vinel Island were just too good to give diminished points to. It's equality for all. By the way, Vinel Island is just amazing. Major props to whoever nominated it. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
LOL! |
nom nom nom:
Song: World End Dominator Game: Umineko No Nako Koro Ni 2 Composer: zts ...that's all I have, as usual. >_> I'll upload it anyway! Most amazing jew boots |
Boktai 3: Sabata's Counterattack (Game Rip) - Racing from Darkness Really nifty integration of an old-school chiptune into a slightly-better synthed whole. There's literally nothing about this I don't like.
DNA Warrior (C64 Game Rip) - Track 1 As I've said before, more often than not the C64 sound just doesn't agree with me. The melody is nice, but what's around it just bugs me. Fantasy Earth: Zero (Game Rip) - Vinel Island Excellent, bouncy, almost Copland-esque RPG music. The only real negative is that someone other than me nominated it ![]() Fathom (Flash Game Rip) - Water Music I've gotta say I expected better from a Danny Baranowsky nomination. This is strictly in the bottom drawer of his stuff, without much going on. Compared to "The Teaching Robot" or "Fools Say What," this seems even weaker. Metal Gear >> Solid Snake Music Compilation of Hideo Kojima/Red Disc - NIGHT FALL Interesting how the pre-MGS stuff sounds nothing like the Tappy/HGW/Hibino superspy music that's come to dominate the series. The vox are very nice; the rest of the song is forever teetering on the edge of mediocrity. Perfect Dark Dual CD Soundtrack - Training Some surprisingly decent techno here, rather better than the mess that was Perfect Dark Zero. pop'n music 10 AC ♥ CS pop'n music 8 - GOONIES "R" GOOD ENOUGH The inclusion of bits from the Cyndi Lauper song makes me a little uneasy, but otherwise this is fine chiptunage. Square Enix Music Official Bootleg Vol.1 - Ice Field Questions of how anything can be an official bootleg aside, this is a really odd song. The guitar, ambient synth, and melodic piano interlude just don't belong in the same piece, and the distortions that crop up are disconcerting. The Point Spread Vinel Island - 3 pts. Racing from Darkness - 2 pts. Training - 1 pt. Nom Album: Synaesthete OST Artist: William Towns Track #: 12 Track Title: Credits Source: https://typo3.digipen.edu/index.php?id=988 What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() |
[2 Points] Boktai 3: short, but clicks with me
[1 Point] DNA Warrior: genetic engineering with focus [2 Points] Vinel Island: oh wow, Sakimoto, I read it as vinyl island [1 Point] Mr.T: nostalgia points, I remember the stupid mice that were running around in this game Jam it back in, in the dark. |
3 points: Fathom (Flash Game Rip) - Water Music
2 points: Perfect Dark Dual CD Soundtrack - Training 1 point: pop'n music 10 AC ♥ CS pop'n music 8 - GOONIES "R" GOOD ENOUGH 4th: Boktai 3: Sabata's Counterattack (Game Rip) - Racing from Darkness 5th: Metal Gear >> Solid Snake Music Compilation of Hideo Kojima/Red Disc - NIGHT FALL 6th: Fantasy Earth: Zero (Game Rip) - Vinel Island 7th: Square Enix Music Official Bootleg Vol.1 - Ice Field 8th: DNA Warrior (C64 Game Rip) - Track 1 An OK week, everything was at the very least tolerable. "Water Music" really impressed me for some reason, though. But unlike everyone else I'm just not feeling "Vinel Island". =/ It might grow on me, who knows. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I know I'm gonna regret this nom, but I can't resist the funky tune.

3 points - Fathom - Water Music - I nominated this, so if that makes me ineligible to vote for it, you can divvy out these 3 points, a point each, to Boktai, and my other two songs I gave points to. I like this song a great deal, and sure, it's "atmospheric" more than melodic, but it's not amelodic either. I find it transportive, and I'm curious if others who haven't played Fathom might feel similarly.
2 points - Perfect Dark Dual CD Soundtrack - Training - I love Grant Kirkhope's aesthetic, and this is no exception. I wish I'd gotten the chance to play this game, maybe I'll pick it up on XBLA when I get a 360. 1 point - pop'n music - GOONIES "R" GOOD ENOUGH - I appreciate this song more than I expected; the melody really is very strange, and I feel compelled to listen a few times to get the whole thing. I like being surprised, this is a good song. Boktai 3 - Racing from Darkness - I love the driving pace here, I didn't realize Boktai 3's soundtrack had this level of energy to it. I'm encouraged to try the rest of the game rip. DNA Warrior (C64 Game Rip) - Track 1 - It's not fair perhaps, but the actual sound quality here is a turnoff, and the melody doesn't stand out enough to me for me to get much out of it. Fantasy Earth: Zero (Game Rip) - Vinel Island - Excepting Final Fantasy XII, Sakimoto has had a hard time catching my ear lately. This seems to wander around like something from a movie soundtrack, more than a game soundtrack. Not very interesting to me. Metal Gear - NIGHT FALL - A song with a couple good ideas, but it's not grabbing me. Square Enix Official Music Bootleg vol. 1 - Ice Field - I generally like Tsuyoshi Sekito, but I feel similarly to this as I do the Fantasy Earth song by Sakimoto above. Airy and unappealing. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
3 points: DNA Warrior (C64 Game Rip) - Track 1
2 points: Perfect Dark Dual CD Soundtrack - Training 1 point: Fantasy Earth: Zero (Game Rip) - Vinel Island I have silly love for the pitch bends in the melody of the DNA Warrior track. Vinel Island was also the track I liked most from Fantasy Earth, so nice work picking that one. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Nominate a poorly-received song? Why not.

2 points: Vinel Island
2 points: Training 1 point: Track 1 1 point: Racing from Darkness Just Missed: Ice Field wtf: Ice Field The training music from PD? Really? At least, that's what I first thought when I saw it pop up. I'm overly familiar with the track after spending so much time getting those gold stars in training mode, but only now am I really liking it. Funny how that works out. Damn Vinel Island is good, totally justifies my searching for the Fantasy Earth Zero rip way back when. I still can't find it. :hint: Ice Field would've gotten more consideration if it made a lick of sense. Still, it has it's moments. None of which correlate with each other in any way, shape or form, but still. Additional Spam: My next nom: Game: Bloody Wolf (TG16/PC-E rip) Composers: Shogo Sakai (???), Takafumi Miura, Yuji Suzuki, Yusuke Takahama(!!!) Will upload shortly. FELIPE NO
