First Game(s) You Ever Bought For Each Console
What was the first game you ever bought when you purchased a new system? For some early systems with the pack-ins, there really wasn't much of a choice, unless you bought another game with it. But feel free to include multiple games if that's the case, as long as you bought them on the same trip. Mine:
NES - Super Mario/Duck Hunt (pack-in) and Mike Tyson Punchout SNES - Super Mario World (pack-in) Genesis - Sonic The Hedgehog and Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Sega CD - Sonic CD and Sewer Sharks(pack-in) PSX- Street Fighter Alpha N64 - Super Mario 64(pack-in) Saturn - Bug(pack-in) Dreamcast - Sonic Adventure PS2 - Midnight Club(pack-in) and Ready To Rumble 2 Boxing Xbox - Halo Cube- Luigi's Mansion X360 - Hitman: Blood Money Yeah I know, pretty generic, mainstream choices. ![]() Note:
Love, Q How ya doing, buddy?

Sega Genesis: Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Gameboy: Pokemon Red PSX: Final Fantasy VIII, Star Ocean the Second Story Gameboy Advance: Zoids Legacy Yeah... thoughts... too awkward posting just a list... The Sonic games came with the Sega system, so I got lucky there! I think it was some special thing, with the Sonic 2, can't remember... I bought my Gameboy just so I could get Pokemon. That was pretty funny, but I got my entertainment out of it. Zoids Legacy I actually bought BEFORE I got my Gameboy Advance. I'm a big Zoids fan, heheh. I borrowed a friend's GBA until I could afford my own. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]()

Um, plain ol' list threads don't go down too well (they fail in the bedroom). But they also don't really encourage much discussion. You guys wanna add a bit of commentary to each game or something? Share some precious memories, Kodak moments, that sort of thing? Like for example, "SNES - Wayne's World. I got this with the system for Christmas one year, this game made me stop believing in Santa and I burnt the house down in a fit of rage." Thanks!
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Atari 2600-Ms Pac Man, Missle Command, Asteroids, Yars Revenge
Atari 7800-Pole Position 2 (pack-in), Ms Pac Man NES-SMB/Duck Hunt Pack in, Metroid SNES-Super Mario World (pack-in), Final Fight Gameboy-Super Mario Land, Tetris (pack-in), Snoopy's Magic Show PS1-Final Fantasy VII, Diehard Trilogy, Frogger, Megaman X4, Magic: The Gathering Battlemage, Triple Play 98, Suikoden 1 Saturn-X-Men vs Street Fighter, Marvel vs Street Fighter, Nights (plus 4-in-one cart) Dreamcast-Marvel vs Capcom 1, King of Fighters 99: Dream Match Never Ends, Hydro Thunder. PS2-Street Fighter EX3, Ridger Racer V. Turbo Duo-Ys Book 1 and 2, Ys 3, 3-1: Gate of Thunder, Bonk's Adventure and Bonk's Revenge. Gamecube-Mario Sunshine, Smash Brothers Melee Xbox-Guilty Gear XX: Reload, DOA 3 DS-Super Princess Peach, Mario Kart (pack-in), New Super Mario Brothers (pre-order). A lot of them were gifts and games were included in with them. Ones in bold were ones were I got during my own trip to the store right after getting the system. Mostly, there was always one or two "must-have" games that fueled my want for a system. Classic Mario normally does the trick and so do new fighters (though I don't have DOA3, EX3 or Sunshine anymore). PS1 was a huge jump from the capabilities of the SNES at the time and I was impressed by the large library of cool-looking games, so I got to go to town when it came out. I still remember I had finished FFVII and I saw Suikoden for $20 my first real look at the PS1 section and thinking, "Wow, 108 characters...FFVII only had 7! THIS I gotta see!" I actually didn't like Metroid when I first got it...A few weeks of dabbling around and figuring out where to go slowly made me grow into it. I've still never beaten it straight out (at least not without "Justin Bailey"). I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?
I'm taking over this town...
I'm screaming for vengenace... I'm shouting at the devil... I'm not dead and I'm not for sale... Ain't lookin' for nothin' but a good time...

Hmm, I can't actually remember the first for most of my consoles (and most of the time I bought several games when I first got a console), but here's a few memorable ones:
SNES: Lagoon (along with SMW packed in). My parents actually got it for me along with the SNES as a christmas present. Not the greatest game in the world, but some of the music was nice. It was also ridiculously hard. I wish they had gotten me Zelda instead, although I can't remember if it was even out at the time. Saturn: Panzer Dragoon/Virtua Fighter/Daytona USA/Bug (I think)/one more I can't remember. I was pretty hyped at getting my Saturn right after it dropped to $199, and all of the aformetioned games were $20 or less, so I picked them all up along with the system. I was surprisingly hooked on Virtua Fighter, and both Panzer Dragoon and Daytona USA got a lot of playtime. Dreamcast: Sonic Adventure and Soul Calibur. Only console I bought at launch, and I got these two games and a VMU with it. Very good games, I usually don't spend that much when I get a system but it was amazing for the time. PS2: Zone of the Enders. I actually bought this game BEFORE I got a PS2, since it was $15 used and I was going to get a PS2 in the near future anyway (this was just before it dropped to $199). Loaned it to a friend who had a PS2 until I got mine. Decent game for the price. Xbox 360: Perfect Dark and Kameo. Actually, I don't even own an Xbox 360 yet, but I got these on a buy-2-get-1-free deal for fairly cheap and I borrowed an Xbox 360 to play them. Didn't get very far through either of them before I gave it back, but they're pretty fun so I'm looking forward to getting an Xbox 360 for myself in the near future. I was speaking idiomatically.

My Game Boy came with Tetris, but I believe the first game I got for it was either Mega Man or Super Mario Land, one of the two.
For Super Nintendo, it came with Super Mario World, and the next game I got was Super Probotector for my birthday, but the first game I bought for it myself was Super Mario All-Stars. N64, came with Super Mario 64, first game I bought for it was Goldeneye. Playstation, first game I bought was Final Fantasy VII. I had to go back to the store the next day to get a memory card =x Playstation 2, I believe my first game was Zone of the Enders. I didn't have any PS2 games for the console for a while, it was a few months later that I bought ZOE. Gamecube.. first game I bought was Metroid Prime, although my parents had bought me Wind Waker before I had even bought the console. Game Boy Advance.. Golden Sun, I got it slightly cheaper when I bought the GBA. For Dreamcast, I bought the console and Grandia 2. Still haven't finished it, amusingly. Sega Saturn, I bought a large bundle, which included both Virtua Cop games, Panzer Dragoon 1 and 2, Fighter's Megamix and Shining Wisdom. Xbox, first (and only so far) games I bought were Halo and Splinter Cell. I played Halo first. I've yet to personally buy a single game for my PSP, but the first game I got and played on it was probably Lemmings. Most amazing jew boots ![]() |
Master System- Alex Kidd in Miracle World (Not much choice here, great game though)
Nintendo 64- Banjo-Kazooie (Hired F1 World Grand Prix until I got the former on Boxing Day. Awesome) Gamecube- Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 (Certainly not on my top Cube games list, but Rogue Leader is still pretty fun) Xbox- Midtown Madness 3, Brute Force (As part of The Beast package. Finished Midtown, never got far with Brute Force- don't have anyone to play co-op with) Nintendo DS- Wario Ware: Touched!, Super Mario 64 DS (Eh, my DS library has seen better. Former's good while it lasts though) Playstation 2- Ratchet and Clank 3: Up Your Arsenal, Gran Turismo 3 (Again a package. Would have picked it up with ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, but thought I'd get the console with memory card, 2 controllers etc before they disappeared. Ratchet is pretty fun, disk skipping with loss of voices stopped me playing it) And for the future, Wii- Rayman Raving Rabbids, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Metal Slug Anthology/Excite Truck/Red Steel/Monkey Ball, Wii Sports (Still haven't decided for that third title) Also, launches which occur in my dreams: Xbox 360- Shenmue III (Hellz yeah) Playstation 3- Beyond Good and Evil 2 (Must play best version) Otherwise I'll just buy them for Rare and Fumito Ueda respectively. Most amazing jew boots ![]() |
NES - Super Mario Bros
Hey, it came with the system, and it rocked. I used to play it so much, and to date I've never been able to get past the 8th level and win the game :D SNES - Super Mario World It also came with the game, and it also rocked. It's my favourite Mario game ever. The ending's cute. Gameboy - Tetris Like the others, Tetris came with the system, and I was addicted. Who isn't? Gameboy Advance - Super Mario 2 For a minute there, I had almost forgot what the first game I got for it was, and then it just popped into my head. I remembered getting it along with Pokémon Puzzle Challenge for the GBC. Sure, it wasn't a true Mario game, but it was still fun. N64 - Banjo-tooie It came with the system, and man, was it a crummy game : / PS2 - Wow, I really don't remember what the first game I got was. Amazing. Gamecube - Luigi's Mansion I played the beginning of this game many times, due to lack of a memory card :D Luigi's a cooler character than Mario, but man, he needs to star in more games! I loved how you could make him call out for Mario and get wildly different results. DS - Sims: The Urbz The system wasn't originally for me, but the first game I played on it was this one. Unfortunately, like all the other Sims games on the consoles/handhelds, it sucked : / What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() |
Super Mario World and Super Mario Allstars came with my SNES. I'm really not sure which game I first got separately. :/
For my Game Boy Color, Link's Awakening was my first. I think Pokemon Blue was next. ![]() As for my PS2, Jak & Daxter caught my eye when I bought the console. I never did beat that game... For my GBA, my first game that wasn't an older GB one was probably FFTA. Finally, the first game for my DS was Super Mario 64. ![]() Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Good Chocobo |
Well I'll do as many as I remember.
Xbox 360: Chromehounds - I've never been a big fan of mech games, but after listening to the ramblings of Colonel Skills and others who were playing this on Xbox Live, I decided to give it a shot. It's a fun game when you have a squad to run with, and the level of customization involved is also great, but my inherent lack of interest in mechs left this game on the shelf long ago. Playstation 2: Kingdom Hearts - Final Fantasy X was given to me as a gift along with the PS2, but the next day I went out and got the game that I really wanted in Kingdom Hearts. People talked about how a Square/Disney game would never work, or that it was too childish, but I wasn't buying any of that and I absolutely loved the game. One I should probably play again soon. Playstation 1: RIIIIIIIIIIDGE RACER - The arcade blast on the PS1. I really only bought this because it was cheap and I didn't have tons of money at the time, and FF7 was only a few months away from being released. Nintendo 64: Super Mario 64 - Who honestly bought Pilotwings over Mario 64? Nobody, that's who. I played this game for the longest time, mainly because it was all that was worth playing for a good while on the N64 when it was first released. Collecting all the stars was a great start to what became one of my favorite consoles, despite its lack of game variety. Game Boy Advance Castlevania: Circle of the Moon - So the cards may not have been the coolest item system in the world. This game was still a blast for me, even though it wasn't quite the amazing experience that SOTN was. I still rank this as the second best Castlevania on the GBA behind Aria of Sorrow. Harmony of Dissonance lol. Nintendo DS: Kirby Canvas Curse - I got my DS just prior to the flood of amazing games that were released for it(Mario Kart, Castlevania, Phoenix Wright, Trauma Center, etc.). Kirby was an amazing yet simplistic game that kept me held over along with Warioware until those games got here. While there are times that I wish I was actually playing as Kirby instead of drawing the paths, this game is still great fun on the go. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
NES - Super Mario Bros.
This came with the NES when I got it. I thought that it was the best game ever, having spent the past few years using a Spectrum. SNES - Super Mario Kart I had played this at a friends house, and when it came to choosing the first game for my SNES, I had to get this after being so impressed with it. Gameboy - Tetris 2 & Soccer These games came with the Gameboy. It was an xmas present, both of these games sucked, but I played them anyway. N64 - Snowboard Kids When I bought my N64 the choice of games that I could buy with it were very limited, and this was the best of a bad bunch. Playstation - V-Rally & Tunnel B1 Another xmas present. V-Rally was quite a good game (well, it was at the time.) Tunnel B1 came with V-Rally, it was a very strange game and I had difficulty working out how to play it. Gameboy Advance - Sonic Advance 2 Again another limited choice of games to buy. Was the best of the few good games in the shop. It was fun for a while, but after only having the one game (still the only one), I got bored with it and moved onto something else. Playstation 2 - Final Fantasy X & Grand Theft Auto: Vice City I timed my purchase of my Playstation2 to co-inside with the release of Vice City. I bought FFX because I liked the Playstation incarnations of FF, but I was thoroughly dissappointed when I played this. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]()

Same response for: NES, SNES, Sega CD, N64, Dreamcast, and Genesis. I bought my first PS2 in 2005 and my first game was FFX. Xbox and Xbox 360 I'm not sure about because my dad bought them for himself and I don't play those consoles much. Gamecube was Star Wars Rogue Squad. Playstation 1 was Final Fantasy Anthology. Game Gear was Sonic 1 + Columns. Game Boy was Mario Land. GBA was Mario Advance 1. DS was Mario 64. Sega Saturn was Shining the Holy Ark. PSP was Tiger Woods golf. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
[quote]Playstation, first game I bought was Final Fantasy VII. I had to go back to the store the next day to get a memory card =x/quote]
Heh! Me too! Except that I never owned a PS1, but at the same time, I didn't think I'd be playing PS1 games on my PS2, so I didn't get a PS1 card until then. Yes, FFVII would also be my first PS1 game I owned, I think. Let's see. SNES - Super Mario World. I think the game was packaged with the system or there was some special bonus or something. Too long now. PS2 - Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec. I like how the very first time I played this game in London Drugs (a department store), I was like....OH SHIT IT'S SO REAL. So needless to say I asked my mom, if not any other game, to get this game AND a memory card too ^___^. DS Lite - Nintendogs. Well this is actually my sister's DS, but I sometimes use it to, to TORTURE the poor puppies ;___;. I like how for probably the first 2 years of owning a PS2, it was RARE for me to get any games for it, maybe 1 or 2 games a YEAR. Now it's averaging one game for every two months or so. 2006 has been a very expensive year with me getting games, but I guess that's another thread. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() - What we all do best - |
NES - Mario 1 pack-in (No Duck Hunt love for me!). I think the first game bought was SMB3. When I moved to Florida, the first thing I did was hook up the NES and play SMB3. That was one hell of a trip.
Sega Genesis - Sonic 2 pack-in, with Sonic 1 along with it. It was for Chanukah years ago. I found out about the system before I got it, which kind of spoiled the surprise, but it was still awesome. SNES - I think it was Super Mario World, but I'm not sure. The system was actually bought used at a garage sale. N64 - We got Super Mario 64, Turok, and Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire all on the same day as the system. It was a gift my dad got me for getting straight A's all through 5th grade. PS1 - My mom got this in an attempt to make me want to be at her house more, and because she knew I wanted one because of Final Fantasy VIII (I played VII on PC). The first games I got for it were Parasite Eve and Mega Man Legends, along with the ultra-crappy game Punky Skunk for my sister (In a strange twist, that game turned out to be one of the rarer PS1 games around, despite that it doesn't go for much money) Dreamcast - My mom's house was broken into in 2k, so she bought a Dreamcast to replace my stolen Playstation (Thankfully, my Dad's girlfriend had a PS1 for her kids, so I was always using it when I went to her house, so none of my games were stolen. The only game stolen was, of course, Punky Skunk.). She gave me a choice of any three games to start with, and while I wanted Sonic Adventure, RE: Code Veronica, and Marvel Vs. Capcom, they didn't have any copies of MvsC, so I got Crazy Taxi instead. I managed to beat Sonic Adventure the first day of owning the system. PS2 - My mom went on a cruise with my sister, and rather than do that, I convinced her to buy me a PS2. The first game I got for the system was Zone of the Enders, which I promptly beat in one day, a strange repeat of the birth of the Dreamcast for me. GCN - I did pretty well in my first year of High School, so my dad bought me a Gamecube. We picked up Resident Evil ReMake for our first game, which proved once again that I suck at RE games. Xbox - I didn't really want an Xbox until KOTOR came out. I started seeing ads for the game, and reading stuff on the internet about how incredibly awesome it was. Not only that, but they had released Shenmue 2 on the system the previous year, which I was dying to play since I loved Shenmue 1, so my dad bought me the system for my birthday, and I bought myself KOTOR, Shenmue 2, and Panzer Dragoon Orta for my first games. I didn't get Halo until later in the year, since it was still going for the fucked up price of $30, two years after release. I know, I'm a cheap bastard. Xbox 360 - First console system I've bought myself (Not including the second Dreamcast I bought for myself when they dropped down to $50.), since I have a job and the damn thing is ass-raping expensive. I picked up Kameo and Final Fantasy XI when I bought it (Final Fantasy was free with the purchase of Kameo, so shut up.) I had an Atari, but I can't remember what was bought with it except the crappy DK pork (I didn't realize it was crappy at the time though) Gameboy - I'm pretty sure this was bought used at a garage sale along with Super Mario Land. Great system though. I can't fucking remember when I got my Game Boy Pocket or my Game Boy Color. GBA - Happened to walk into Best Buy on the day it came out with no plans to buy it, and decided to buy it along with Castlevania: CotM. The first system I bought myself. DS - Bought it on impulse on eBay. It turned out to have a broken touch screen, but Nintendo fixed it free of charge. Nintendo fucking rocks! Polarium was really cheap at the time, so I bought that. PSP - Bought it a couple of months ago to play Valkyrie Profile. I ordered VP at the same time as the PSP, but I knew I was buying the system before that, so I bought Virtua Tennis and Lumines before I got the system ordered. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
NES - Mario Bros/Duck Hunt
Pretty much standard with everyone else. SNES - Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario All-Stars The Super Mario World was standard as well. The other two I got in some kind of bundle that was pretty sweet. Can't remember why but oh well. Genesis - Mortal Kombat MOOOOOOORTAL KOOOOOOMBAT. I actually got my Genesis after my N64. I think I sold it again though once I learned about ROMS. N64 - Mario 64, Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire Pretty much like everyone else, I got Mario 64. Shadows of the Empire wasn't to bad either until you got into the higher levels, then it just pissed you off. PSX - I seriously can't remember. I think it was like Destruction Derby or something. Whatever it was, it was not important. PS2 - Madden 2001, Fantavision Madden was pretty sweet as it was the first football game that didn't look like a pile of vomit while playing it. Graphics were fantastic for the time. The other game was some homosexual fireworks game that I played maybe 3 times. XBOX - Amped Snowboarding I got this the game with the XBOX. I think it was some kind of Wal*Mart special. FELIPE NO |
Atari 5200: Pitfall II, River Raid, Keystone Capers. I picked these up soon after the demise of the 5200 and during the great crash of the early 80's at a Toys R' Us in Seattle while visiting my grandparents. Activision forever!
Apple IIgs (family system): Might & Magic II. Although we had some shareware type "games" for the system such as Sabotage, Oregon Trail, and Swords & Sorcery, the very first "real" game I bought for it was M&M II. I wish now that I had bought the sequels as well, but by the time I beat this game I had a SNES anyway. ![]() Gameboy: Ducktales. I think. I remember I beat this game in about 2 days worth of playing, but spent many, many hours just trying to get all the hidden gems etc. Extremely fun. I think I will play my GB emulator tonight in fact. SNES: Super Street Fighter II. At least, I'm pretty sure: my memory of that era is vague, I basically just remember playing a whole lotta FF3. ![]() PC (200MHz Pentium system, the first computer I personally owned): Duke Nukem 3d: Plutonium Edition. And it crashed in certain levels in unavoidable ways, even with -noclip, which was very frustrating - I basically had to use cheats to beat the game. Playstation 1: FFVII and Einhander. I splurged and bought both of these. I needed FFVII, of course ![]() ![]() Dreamcast: Sonic Adventure. This was the game I bought the Dreamcast for. (Little did I know Rayman 2 would blow me out of the water a year later.) In my mind, this was the most amazing game of the time. Certainly there were no launch titles for PS2 that beat it or even came close. (I sold my DC and have recently purchased a new one off Ebay, and this time the first game I purchased for it was Shenmue.) NES: Super Mario Bros. 1, 2, & 3, Castlevania, and Conquest of the Crystal Palace. I bought a used NES after I bought the Dreamcast. Even though I could emulate it, I still wanted an original NES, since they're fairly cheap. The Mario games are true classics. I purchased the other two games because they are ones I nearly beat the few times I rented a NES back in the day. Playstation 2: (I'll have to look when I get home, I'm not sure on this one. Mostly, I played my old PS1 games on it with higher def graphics. ![]() Gamecube: Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II. A definite must-have title for the good 'ole cubey. This really showed me what the GC was capable of, and cemented the notion in my mind that it was more powerful than the PS2. Gameboy Advance/Gameboy Advance SP: Final Fantasy Legends & Metroid Fusion. Yes, I bought into the whole "Ooh, a new gameboy is out only 1.5 days after the previous version was release, I must have one!!!11!!" mentality. ![]() Nintendo DS: Kirby's Canvas Curse. Very cool game that used the stylus. I thought it was fun, but nothing that blew my mind. Having to draw lines actually got tiring after awhile. (I have since sold the DS - no DS lite for me!) What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

My first console system was a SNES, which I havem't paid a single penny. But I got Super Mario World and Super Mario All-Star. Then I got a Nintendo 64 for christmas, the year it was released. I got Super Mario 64. I got a PSone too, the next year in fact, I got Resident Evil 3. Then I finally got a job so I can afford my games myself. When I bought my PS2 (next summer from its release) I picked Onimusha along with an extra controller (which was pretty useless -_-). For the gamecube on its release I couldn't make my mind so I got 3 games at random. Luigi Mansion, Super Monkey Ball and Wave Race Blue Storm. Yeah I could have picked the star wars too but I didn't have much space left in my hands.
I bought a XBOX last year, with Halo. What a waste of money. Worst purchase ever. For my PSP, I got Lumines and Rengoku. 2 jewels.... <3 I don't remember what I got for any of my gameboy version (got them all), but for the DS, I bought that damn addicting thing only for Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow. For the Wii, I will get Red Steel and the Twilight Princess. I'll buy a PS3 when Resident Evil 5 will get an official release. ...That's pretty much what I had to say on the subject. How ya doing, buddy? |
-NES: Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt
-Super NES: Super Mario World -Nintendo64: Star Fox 64 -Gamecube: Resident Evil remake and Agent Under Fire were bought at the same time -XBOX: Hitman: Contracts -XBOX 360: Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter, Tomb Raider: Legend, and Perfect Dark Zero were bought at the same time. Hitman: Contracts was the reason I got an XBOX. At the time I just had a Gamecube and I played Hitman 2 on it. I was disapointed that Contracts wasn't coming out on the Cube. So I bought a refurbished XBOX and a new copy of Hitman: Contracts. The three 360 game I got used at a Gamstop when I got the system. I got Perfect Dark Zero free. The store was having a buy two get one free deal. xman25 There's nowhere I can't reach. |
-NES: Super Mario/Duck Hunt and Final Fantasy 1
-SNES: Super Mario Kart, Star Fox, [Super Mario World] -N64: Super Mario 64, [Star Fox 64] -GCN: Super Monkey Ball and Luigi's Mansion -PSX: Final Fantasy VII and Tekken -PS2: Final Fantasy X and Loony Tunes Space Race -NDS: Yoshi's Touch 'n Go, Wario Ware: Touched, and Super Mario 64 DS. Games that come with the system don't count, which is why they are in brackets. ![]() I'm pretty sure about everything on that list, except for the NES. Since I was, how old? Pretty young. That is all just conjecture and common sense. The NES wasn't a very strong system in my family, as we only got a couple of games for it. Unlike the other systems which ten games seems to be the minimum over it's life time. I do remember getting the PSX for free, it was awesome. The games and the system were in pratically brand new condition (because the parents didn't think their kid deserved it, so they gave it to us). Ahh, the days of the Playstation, how I do miss thee. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() Currently Playing:Persona 3, .hack//G.U. vol 3, Wild ARMs 3, and Phantasy Star Universe (360). Hey, neat. Let's see...(*asterisks indicate Christmas presents)
EDIT: Not sure what sage has to do with anything, but I'm guessing it's not good. I'm willing to expand my post a bit. Atari 2600 (1986): ET, Asteroids, Missile Command - As I mentioned elsewhere, my Mom got this post-crash for a song, and I loved it to death, even ET. Then one of my brothers-in-law threw out the deck and all my games when he was mad at my sister. I miss ET. *NES (1988): Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt pack-in - Standard story. Grandparents, hypnotism, blah blah blah...what's cool about Mario is that my parents played it almost as much as I did (my mom was better at it, if you're curious). Commodore 64 (1988): Defender of the Crown, Times of Lore - Forgot this the first time 'round, it was unfortunately donated to a local kids center in the early 90s against my will, and judging from their reaction, against theirs as well. They got rid of it shortly thereafter and I still haven't sufficiently gotten over it. Times of Lore was a full cup of wow back then. *GameBoy (1990): Tetris pack-in, Super Mario Land, Qix, Alleyway - The story on this one goes that both my parents and grandparents picked this up during the same sale, and debated awhile over who was going to return theirs. Eventually my parents won, and my grandparents picked up the latter three games instead. *SNES (1992): Super Mario World pack-in - Only worth noting that Mario was the only SNES game we owned for almost a year. Back then, things were mighty tough. Master System (N/A): Ghostbusters, Fantasy Zone: The Maze - Never actually owned one; got an adaptor when I found a Genesis. The games came from a yard sale. Genesis (1996): 6-in-1 Classic Pack pack-in - Scoff if you will at the lateness, but finally having both a Genesis and SNES was a big deal for me. Sega CD (1998): Snatcher - Paid $100 to a co-worker for the deck, the game, and some crappy old Genesis sports titles. My sister worked on it together like mad for 4 days, but while we were stuck in the hospital vent, we got news my grandfather had died, so we disconnected it for awhile, as we didn't feel much like playing anymore. What sucked was when we decided to finish it, and realized we had lost the necessary cords...I finally beat the game, alone, running on Gens on the PC. Sigh. Saturn (1998): Virtua Cop/Virtua Fighter 2/Daytona USA pack-in, Panzer Dragoon Saga - Got the whole bunch from a disgusted classmate for $20 even. True story. PlayStation (1997): Final Fantasy VII (actually bought it before the system) - I went completely nuts over this one. I didn't even have a computer with a CD drive at this point, so it was kind of a tech high for me. Still love the game, too. N64 (1999): Super Mario 64 - Back in '98 I actually rented an N64 and SM64 from a rental place for 6 days, and gave it back, begrudgingly, with 118 stars. After returning it (and paying off the crazy balance my weeklong binge had cost me), I slowly saved up to get my own, and when I did, 3 days later, I finished the job the right way. Shortly after that we got Mario Kart, Mario Party and 3 extra controllers and my sisters took the damn thing hostage. Dreamcast (2000): Sonic Adventure, Soul Calibur, Marvel vs Capcom, Dead or Alive 2 - Good times, good times. Got a $1000+ tax return and promptly dropped half of it on games (picked up Fear Effect and Thousand Arms the same day as these). I realized only when I got home that I forgot to buy a VMU, so we ran out the next day and got a cheap no-screen memory card for $10 at Wal-Mart. I still love these, even if nobody will play the latter two with me anymore. Another sigh. *PlayStation2 (2001): Metal Gear Solid 2, Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex, and Final Fantasy X two days later - Apparently, according to the family members who pooled their money for these that year, getting a PS2 meant going through the most persistent XBox-shilling salesperson on Earth. They say the conversation ended when my Mom (my MOM) gently referred to the XBox lineup as 'dogshit', and the seller clammed right up. Good games, even Crash, even though that one has the longest loading times ever seen on this mortal plane. GameBoy Advance (N/A): Castlevania Double Pack - Never actually owned my own GBA, but I've been using the GBA functionality on the DS Lite to get around to the ones I couldn't play on my nephew's. Sought this one out first because well, it's Castlevania, and the flash saving ensures a longer life for the games. *GameCube (2003): Zelda: Wind Waker - Another Christmas gift from Mom, who told a tearful tale wherein the guy holding the deck for her told her on the phone it had Wind Waker as a pack-in, and then completely backpedaled once she went to pick it up. So she called me ahead of time and essentially spoiled the surprise by asking me if I really wanted the deck and the game or if I wanted Megaman X7 instead. At the time, this was a tricky choice, as I was not yet aware that X7 was terrible. But I picked the GC and she picked up a ratty used copy of Wind Waker with it, which I wouldn't trade for anything. She's a sweetie. Nintendo DS (2006): Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, New Super Mario Bros, Super Princess Peach, Brain Age (PW was bought 6 months before I got a DS, and the other three were bought on the day I got the system) - Oh, what drama this was. I had no plans to get a DS until the Lite came out, but when I heard Phoenix wasn't going to be reprinted, I rushed out and bought it back in January. Graphic Adventure Law & Order-style***? Hell YES. But then came the wait...then the Lite delay...and a longer wait....all the while resisting the urge to just buy a regular DS in the meantime. But it finally came, and PW was completely friggin' worth the wait. Oh yeah, and the other games were nice, too. ***It should be mentioned that the L&O games for PC are completely awful and should be avoided. Whew...verbarrhea. Sorry about that. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? DAMN good coffee!

The Brick (Gameboy) - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. (Man, i wish i hadn't traded that game away. That game was fun. I'd probably play it even today)
SNES - Super Mario World. (Yeah, i bought it used, so it wasn't necissarily a pack-in, but i wouldn't know, cause my parents got it for me one christmas way back. Boy, i remember the good times from way back when) N64 - Zelda Ocaraina of Time. (O man, i probably logged more money on this system cause of rented games, than any other system.) PSX - Final Fantasy VIII & Speedball. (Ah yes, FFVIII. Great game, probably still my favourite of the FF's. Well, the fact that it came first and all probably has something to do with that. I played Speedball like twice, then never touched it again. Man, that was a pretty terrible game) Gamecube - Smash Bros. Melee & Waverace Blue Storm. (I played both games alot. I've sort of stopped playing SSBM cause nobody wants to play anymore, and i've driven single player into the ground more than enough times. Waverace is fun for fiddling around on every now and then. It's a nice filler between titles) PS2 - FFX (I've only played through the game once, but with 120 hours of play time, i think it's safe that's the longest i've ever speant on a game. I might pick it up again one day) NDS - Nintendogs: Dauchshund & Mario 64 DS (Never did own Mario 64 for the 64, so i figured i'd pick it up now. I play it more than i ever played Nintendogs. I'm sorta sad that Nintendogs didn't last that long with me. I keep telling myself to play it more, but it never works ![]() I was speaking idiomatically. |
Err... a little standard here, but anyway:
NES: SMB + Duck Hunt PC: Leisure Suit Larry (and i was so young!) SNES: Super Mario World Genesis: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Gameboy: Megaman 2 Virtual Boy: Mario Tennis + Mario Clash (i love the VB... no, its not a joke) 3DO: Super Street Fighter II Turbo N64: Super Mario 64 Playstation: Rayman (really!) Saturn: Radiant Silvergun (originally i buy the Saturn just for this, later i will feel very sad about how underrated the Saturn was) Dreamcast: Street Fighter III 3rd Strike Gamecube: Nintendo Puzzle Collection (yep, another import) No, i dont have a PS2, but i will get it soon, with SF Anniversary Collection and Alpha Anthology Yeah, im a Street Fighter fanboy. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Listing threads are full of sage, guys. Take a cue from Helloween's book and do this properly, with explanations.
NES: My first system, and my first games were of course the pack-in Mario/Duck Hunt combo cart. I also got the first TMNT game at the same time though. Funny how hard that fucking game was though. Augh. SNES: Other than the Super Mario World pack-in? Probably Actraiser. Fucking great title too. Stil rocks hard to this day. A shame the sequel blows monkey balls. PC: My first gaming PC was gotten simply because I really REALLY wanted to play Mechwarrior II. And lo, I played it lots. Tonnes, even. So very fun. 4 is the next best thing though, and it'll actually run these days. WOWZERS. GBX: Again, outside of the Tetris pack-in? Star Wars and Kirby's Dream Land. I didn't get the GB until a few years after it came out. Probably because my parents didn't like me playing the other things I had so much. They eventually broke down and got it for me in...1992, I think it was. GG: I remember loving this thing for a grand total of a month. Worst games ever. That said, the first Sonic game was iffy, and I also got a game called CHUCK ROCK, which I remember being hard. I haven't played that one in at least a half decade, so it's probably considerably easier these days. I should fire it up to find out. GBC: I remember this one fondly. Super Mario Bros. Deluxe. Portable Lost Levels was the fucking shit. Played that to DEATH. I also got sucked into Revelations: The Demon Slayer back then. N64: Mario 64. SInce I got the thing right when it came out, it was either that or Pilotwings (or both). Super Mario actually kept me occupied for a long as fuck time, until I got CRUISIN' USA. Oh LORD, what a joke that was. PS1: Hahahaha, this is embarassing as fuck because of how TERRIBLE the game is, but Final Fantasy VIII. I used to be a square fanretard. Luckily back in that day I didn't post on the internet and make a complete fool out of myself like Square fanretards do today! GBA: F-zero Maximum Velocity. I remember picking this up at launch with that and things like Castlevania: Circle of the Moon. F-zero I opened and played first though because it rocked a LOT. I played the SHIT out of that in multiplayer for months with one of my buddies. DC: Sonic Adventure. Kinda lollin' in retrospect, since it really wasn't that good, but back then it was very WOW AWESOME. DC <3 though. PS2: Probably Tekken Tag and Timesplitters. I don't have either of those anymore though, since they were sold off by someone other than me. ;_; No big loss though, they sucked balls for the most part anyway. Cube: Super Smash Bros Melee Best launch title ever? Ok, maybe not, but fuck if it isn't still awesome. Completely BRILLIANT title. Loved it to death. Xbox: Steel Battalion. Lol, expensive reason to own an Xbox, but that was the ENTIRE POINT for me. Fuck, I'm a sim fag. Someone put my wallet out of misery. DS: Super Mario 64 DS because, really, the DS was hurting for games at launch and I am a complete WHORE for that title. Not really surprising there. PSP: Lumines and Wipeout Pure. Completely worth the system's price point for Lumines. It's fucking brilliant. I still play it ot this day. So far it's the ONLY reason to own that system outside of having the luxery of portability for some old ports and remakes. 360: Perfect Dark Zero and PGR3, the first one is a mess, and the second one rocks really really hard. PD0 is fucking TERRIBLE. So bad it hurts, actually. Makes me cry. Thank God PGR was good. I don't think I forgot anything, although I might have. ;_; FELIPE NO |
I'll list my systems in the order I recieved/bought them: Gameboy - I think it was either Quark, some shooter game I believe or Mortal Kombat, which was a really shitty port. Super Nintendo - Ken Griffey Jr.'s Major League Baseball came with it and it was fun for a little bit. I got Killer Instinct shortly afterwards. Nintendo 64 - Wayne Gretzgy's 3D Hockey. I enjoyed it for a bit until I got DOOM 64 afterwards. Sony Playstation - Metal Gear Solid. I knew I want a PSX after I read a long article on MGS in EGM. I was sold on the PSX thanks to that game. Sega Dreamcast - Air Force Delta. I actually bought this game from a kid at school before I got the system. I gave him 10 bucks for it. I think he stole it. Gameboy Advance - Castlevania Circle of the Moon. I bought that at Wal-Mart right before I had to work and played it during my break. Playstation 2 - Zone of the Enders. I was originally going to get Onimusha, but I switched games, I had the PS2 and game on layaway at Wal-Mart, once I found out there was a MGS2 demo with ZOE. Too bad ZOE was too short and subpar. Gamecube - I bought my Gamecube at my work, Toys R Us and it was the Super Mario Sunshine bundle. The next game after that was Metroid Prime I believe. NES - Yeah finally! I got a bunch of games with it, like Castlevania, Super Mario Bros./Duckhunt, Guerrilla Wars and some others. Neo Geo Pocket Color - Bought the system, which came with six games at a Gamestop in California. Haven't bought any new games for it yet. Xbox - Splinter Cell and Mech Assault (ugh) came with it. I got Fatal Frame and Shenmue II shortly afterwards. Sega CDX - It's a combination Sega Genesis and Sega CD in a tiny, snappy package. I wanted it for one reason and one reason only: Snatcher. But I didn't get it when I got the CDX, so I got Contra Hard Corps for the Genesis portion. Snatcher came later. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
NES: Flipped from America, the Master System was actually doing a lot better at the time. I got this for Christmas at '89, came bundled with three games. Dr. Mario, Shadowgate and Zelda. It took me a hell of a long time to actually get into Shadowgate, I used to keep dying at the dragon fireplace what what what part. "You used the sheild, but it's getting very hot in this room!" "You have suffered heat stroke and go home sick for the day, Game over". First game I bought (with Christmas money days later) was Super Mario Bros.
SNES: This was another bundle thing, except this time it was an official one. The Super Mario All-Stars one. It was really awesome playing through the games with sexy new graphics (there were actually backgrounds in Mario 3!) and finding out about Lost Levels. First non-bundled SNES game I got was Zool, which may.. seem odd.. I guess. But it was cheap! AND IT'S AWESOME. I was quite happy to keep dying on the first level, it was so much fun. The music is still pretty rockin'. Game Boy: Got this duty free, saved a whopping five bucks or something. Blah blah, came with Tetris. I'm the only person in the world to have gotten this bundled with the system! First non-Tetris game was Mario Land. Fun game, I wish they continued making the Mario Land games. NSMB isn't the same. ![]() Master System: One day my Dad returned home with this from a garage sale. I was so excited. My best friend just down the road had owned one for years, so I borrowed lots of his stuff for extended happy fun times at home. First game I actually bought was The Ninja. It's still my favorite console ever. Mega Drive: Heeey, another bundle. This time with Sonic, Sonic 2 and Double Clutch. Man Double Clutch was such trash. Everytime you try to turn at a corner you fly into the wall and sort of get stuck there. Like the walls were made of sweet honey. THAT HAD GONE BITTER. BITTER HONEY. By the time I got this the Mega CD hype train was rolling in so excitement was everywhere. lololol Mega CD horse shit failiure. Atari Lynx: Speaking of failures. My mum WON this in some bingo .. hamper thing. It was something like that. Came with a few games, the only important one being KLAX. And that was my first true love. First game I actually bought for the thing was Hard Drivin' years later. Terrible! Nintendo 64: Totally serious business here, I didn't know the Saturn or PlayStation even existed till after the N64 was out. AFTER. Living in such a hilariously piss small town, there were only two stores that stocked video games, neither bothered with them (burned with supporting Mega CD and 3DO maybe). I just didn't know such machines were around. I only subscribed to a Nintendo magazine. So this was a GIGANTIC jump for me. First game I got was Mario Kart 64, which remains my favorite from the series. Saturn: Picked this up real cheap during its final death kicks, the same store was literally giving away games. I purchased Daytona USA and Baku Baku with it, they gave me another handful of random games for nothing (Panzer Dragoon, Worldwide Soccer 97, Cyberia, Hang-On GP and GUARDIAN HEROES). I was fucking over the moon. Especially after finding out just how great Guardian Heroes was. Cyberia's cancer, though. PlayStation 2: I don't know why I bought the system when I knew I wouldn't be able to get a game for weeks, but hey. I did eventually get SSX after enjoying the timed demo that came with the system so much OVER AND OVER. GameCube: Pretty much bought this just for Smash Bros. Melee. Worth it for just that, really. Me and a mate stayed up like two straight days playing this on and off. *nerds* DS: Bought this on launch with Mario 64 DS, Wario Ware and the almighty Zoo Keeper. I ignored everything for huge sessions of creepy zoo lovin'. AND I STILL PLAY IT NEARLY EVERYDAY. Dreamcast: Better late than never! First game I got was the COMPLETELY AWESOME Rush 2049. I was surprised how good it looked, too. Like, better than Midway's PS2 efforts. Efforts as in poo. Kind of a pity the system did so badly here though, I can't find many games for it and I can't be arsed to download them. I've probably forgotten a few machines. Maybe I'll remember days later, while in the shower! Jam it back in, in the dark. |
