What TV should I get?
So... I will hopefully be getting a PS3 in a month or so... but will need a TV to go along with it - I want it to be relatively inexpensive, but want it to be nice - IE, maybe $800 for both the PS3 and TV.
Thanks! Jam it back in, in the dark.

Wow. 800 bucks after a, what, 350 dollar system? So you want a TV for like... 450 bones?
Nothing good, I'll tell you that much. You're probably relegating yourself to the 32" and under category. Which isn't horrid if you're going to be less than 6 feet back from the teevee. Just means you're going to be limited in the cool stuff you get with it. No crazy 120hz with smoothing technology to make your movies look gay and your games look fucking awesome. No Plasma quick response with unbelievable blacks and colours and all around sex in a tv screen format. For that kind of money, I'm guessing you'll wind up with a Sharp 32". Either the 720 or the 1080, since at that size no one will know the difference anyway. Samsung might boast better colours, but it will be more expensive, and the sound on Sammy sets is atrocious. All tinny and poor. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() John Mayer just asked me, personally, through an assistant, to sing backup on his new CD. |
Leaping on this thread too.
I'm in the market for a monitor or TV in the £300-ish range (or $600 and down). Less than 32" is fine. No 1080 is fine. Looking for specific model recommendations. Gratitude in advance. How ya doing, buddy? |
Same here. I'm looking for a rather decent telly that's able to handle HD nicely, gives me at least 3 HDMI ports, not all too shoddy sound (I know, sound is usually the real weak spot of these...), and, well, has a pricetag of no more than say 800€.
The LG ELECTRONICS 32LG6000 is supposedly quite decent. Though I tend to be wary due to it being very close to the 500€ watershed of piss poorishness. I guess the prerequisite, that it should be good for playing games on it should be clear, given where on the forum this thread is located... I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]()

I'd look at the Samsung LN32A450, myself. 720p, good colour. Or else the sharp LC32D44U. Very close units.
If you're using predominantly for gaming, there's only one tv you should be snatching in this size: The Sharp Aquos 32LC-GP3U. The vyper drive eliminates input lag and makes it fantastic for gaming. Certainly the guy you should be looking for. I've not had the pleasure of using it myself, but a mate of mine picked one up and just raves about it. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() John Mayer just asked me, personally, through an assistant, to sing backup on his new CD. |
I'll probably be getting the Samsung LE-37A656A1.
It's reasonably priced (about 900€ including shipping), reasonably big (well, 37" might even be something naysayers could call "UNresonably big"), and can do 100Hz picture and all the jazz, and doesn't have outright BAD reviews. With LG, I know... They tend to have a slight stench of cheapyness clinging to them. In my nose at least. I can't nail it why, maybe their logo reminds me too much of that of Hoover and thus in my consumer subconcious mind I make the connection that a comapny who's logo looks like they produce washing machines and vacuum cleaners can't make good electronics... And that still remains, even after I've had two of their DVD drives in my PC for YEARS without them breaking down, and possibly making them the longest lasting optical drives I've ever owned... *shrugs* Samsung on the other hand is a brand I have a lot of trust in... Even though it's true, the "speakers" in my TFT (Computer) screen from them are actually measly weak... I've tried finding that Sharp thing, without success. Guess it's no longer produced... Or not on sale here... O_ô EDIT: Okay, I've gone and ordered the Samsung. I've had some good experiences with their screens so far, and this one seems to be one of the cheaper models that don't have some really bad reviews AND 100Hz. Plus Cnet says it's a good screen for gamers. Now I should really see to it that I get my hueg bulky SDTV sold... ![]() What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]()

I recently purchased the Panasonic VIERA 42" (720p) on newegg.com for $606.00 + $1.00 shipped. My God was that thing a steal.
I just wish it had a monitor input. :/ What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Hm...
Now I'm again at the question of what resolution I should put the screen to. Or rather, what resolution I should put the CONSOLES to. It's capable of Full HD, but given that 1080 resolutions tend to be upscaled anyway, is it then better to just leave the settings at 780p? I mean... The consoles MENUS sure are displayed a lot sharper when set to 1080, but I'm never quite that sure about wether or not the GAMES are displayed in the optimal way. That being said, I think I like the Samsung I picked. But then again, that could just be becuase it's pretty big and thus firstly just wowz0rs with size. Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]()
