Sweeney Todd - Christmas 2007
First Trailer: Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
I think Burton is a great fit for a dark show like this, and even though Depp's singing voice is only heard briefly in the trailer, that moment had a nice flow from dialogue to singing. I will have vengeance, I will have salvation... savvy! How ya doing, buddy? ![]()

I really want to like this - but Burton hasn't made a solid movie since Ed Wood (Though Big Fish wasn't without its charm). That said - I'm about as disaffected by his bland, sterile quirky/dark mix as can be; he's become a joke of himself.
Now if this had been done by Jonathan Demme or Cronenberg, I'd be on pins and needles. For what it is though - its just another Burton throwaway. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
Yeah, it looks like a totally cliche Burton film in all respects, but in the case of Sweeney Todd the look is actually justified. If anything else, it means more Depp in pseudo-period clothing, which is never a bad thing
![]() This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Hey, as long as it has the original music, I'm game.
I hated the new Willy Wonka version because the music sucked (well, and the stupid story tweaks about Wonka's father), same with Corpse Bride. But I'm a fan of the original work, and I wouldn't mind just watching a movie version of that, no matter who's in it or directing. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I actually just watched this. Never really ever watched a full musical before, and I have to admit the music was bothering me for the first 30 minutes of the film, but then I really started getting absorbed into the movie. Music didn't bother me at all after that, but the movie could have been just as good without it too. Thought Depp's vocals were quite good.
Also enjoyed the dark humor and horror style. Going to be singing Joannah forever now. =( Still like Big Fish better. Not that they are comparable though. I was speaking idiomatically. |

I'm not a musical fan but I like Johnny's work, had to be the first one i'd ever watched all the way through, bad ass
But I'm not sure what the hell was suppose to happen at the end, I mean the kid, did he go to jail or people hunt him down and what happened to Johnny's kid and the other guy, kinda lost What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
