Battle Royale Manga
BATTLE ROYALE
![]() Licensed by Tokyopop Adaptation of the novel and film Battle Royale Description Taken from tokyopop.com "In the future, random Jr. High School classes are chosen to compete in a game called Battle Royale. The rules: only one student can survive after 3 days on an island or else they all perish. Weapons are handed out and each student is sent out into the field alone and unprepared for the horror that awaits them. The classmates turn upon themselves in a battle for survival, treaties are made and broken, and former friends become foes as the relentless countdown continues. Amid the betrayals and rising body count, two classmates confess their love for each other and swear to survive this deadly game together. Based on the live-action feature film that became a cause celebre and polarized much of Japan." Volumes 1-14 has been released and vol 15 the Final is coming in April 11th. I've been sticking with it ever since vol 1 and the amount of character development added to the student roster is much better then the movie(I haven't read the novel yet)Violence is incredibly detailed and you feel for the next student thats about to die a horrible death from getting inside their head and past to know how they really are.So has anyone else been keeping up with this manga? Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I've been reading the manga off and on whenever I go to the bookstore, so now I'm just waiting for the end. Having seen the movie I can already figure how it'll end, but I'm still terribly interested in what'll happen. I like that the characters get a lot more development time, as compared to the movie where so many of the deaths just seemed kind of random. The highly graphic nature of the manga is a little bit of a turn off (not much a guro fan), but it gets the job done, I guess.
I love the way some of the characters look in the manga. In the movie, the teacher was kind of an affable old guy, but in the manga there's absolutely nothing to feel towards him but hate. I had no clue the series was ending in the next volume, but that gives me something to look forward to I suppose. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
i've been collection the manga recently and i love it
the art is sort of fugly but thats a giving from what lies within the manga im only on vol 2 right now but i'll catch up in may for sure ~nods~ This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
That must be the main character Shu up there, right? I didn't get the manga yet. Didn't know if it was going to turn out bad or not. I did watch the movies (1st one was obviously the best). If its in the manga, im sure it'll be good as well. I hope for an anime someday.

I've been a big fan of the movie when I imported the region free version from Ebay. That's why I want to tell you all to avoid this manga, as it is the single most disturbing piece of trash I've ever seen.
First, the art is horrible. All the normal schoolkids look like buffed up rejects from a fighting game. The gym teacher, in particular, has been reduced to this fat little pervert that is a complete bastardization of the silently insane actor from the film. The action is also stupidly exaggerated, with Kiriyama chanelling Vegeta (including the bulletproof part, apparently). And the violence....calling it over the top is an understatement. People don't just get shot, they stagger around for four chapters straight while their intestines spill out, throwing in a string of curses as they cry and puke themselves to death. It gets even worse when they try adding some sexuality to the violence (one girl comparing her boyfriend's spilled brains to a premature ejaculation. Okay...what?). Avoid this shit. It craps all over the movie. In fact it craps blood all over the movie, for several chapters at that. How ya doing, buddy? ![]() |

I haven't read the manga, but your descriptions of it so far make it sound more like the novel than the movie. The novel characterizes the characters quite a bit more (since it's long and has quite a bit more space to do so than the movie) and is a good deal more violent. They also changed the character of the teacher quite a bit for Takeshi Kitano in the movie; he's a completely unlikable bastard in the book.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
