Super Mario MUGEN
The game is still in beta, but is playable for some stages. This game is fan-made, done in Game Maker 7 Pro, and it includes various VGM, stage, and enemy themes, which vary from Doom, to Mega Man, Halo and other Mario games.

It's an interesting project, as it's still being upgraded, and more levels can be added at any time. Many different powerups you can acquire, such as the Halo Suit, which allows you to use a spartan sword, hammer bros. suit, racoon suit, and old power ups such as the star, fire flower, feather, etc. Addition: Word is that there is Metal Slug and Half-Life themed stages ahead to be added. Jam it back in, in the dark.

I've actually tried to play this but have been unsuccessful in two previous occasions. The first time I could get to the start screen, but when I started the game it froze. Then they came out with another version and I gave it a try. Well, they removed the music and said to put it in a folder or use your own music if you wish. I could play the game, but the music itself wouldn't play.
The two videos I've seen are of a Halo level and the Megaman 2 level and both of them looked very interesting to play. It's shaping up to be an unbelievable project and hopefully Nintendo or other companies won't give them the Cease and Desist treatment *cough* Square bastards *cough*. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Yea. Since it's still in beta, there's bound to be problems. However they do go about fixing those concerns from people that address it to them. I've had a memory error at one time while playing it, but after this new update, it was fixed.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
I didn't mean to nitpick it, I understand it's still a work in progress. Are you having the same issues with the music portion or does it work fine for you?

It smacks of I Wanna Be The Guy in a way, but hopefully not as impossible because this looks promising.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
I've seen a couple videos of this game, I'm hugely impressed by this game and the thought that's put into this.
I have yet to try it though. I'm awfully impressed with that Tetris stage though. How ya doing, buddy? |

You guys all seem to miss the implications of awesome that are going on with this title. You can kill Elites... WITH TURNIPS. Seriously.

Looks seriously interesting. I do hope that the project will continue until completition though.

I'm normally pretty cynical about fan-made games like this, but this is looking remarkably well done. The Tetris level is what sells it for me. The author has played a LOT of SMB3, and it shows. He's got a very good grasp of level design.
The Halo levels look awfully tedious, though. Maybe some of that will be worked out later in development, but it seems a bit boring if you're not a die-hard Halo fan. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
fantastic! do you know in which language he is programming this game?

An update to all this, they released a list of playable characters:

I'm a bit dissapointed that the overworld map looks more like SMB3 than SMW because I must be the only person ever who doesn't really like SMB3 the best. That said, this game is probably still going to be awesome. If they ever finish it.

I have nothing against the NES sprites, but overall with game design the All-Star sprites just made more sense. There's nowhere I can't reach. |

Progress is happening, it's just kinda slow. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
There's a Game Boy Wario sprite and a Mega Man 2 level, not to mention ROUNDED Sonic 3 style Sonic sprites; how does using Mario All-Stars sprites make any more or less "sense" than using NES era Mario sprites (and I'm not just talking for playable characters)? It's not as if there haven't been Mario sprites after Mario All-Stars, much less far prettier and/or detailed ones before or since. Ok, so the guy really, really likes SMB3, so he themes practically the whole game around it, both structure and interface. I'm saying it was a silly idea to go with the All-Stars version as it is not a very pretty example of 16-bit graphics. This subjective view is not explained away by going "well it's all based on All-Stars, so it makes sense" ![]() I was speaking idiomatically. ![]()
