DVDs take long time to burn

It takes me around an hour and a half to burn a DVD. Been like that since I got it, but I never bothered, since I didn't burn all that often.

I've updated to the latest firmware. Using Nero OEM 6.6.1.15. Memorex 16x DVD-R discs.

What am I doing wrong?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

EDIT: Not paying attention.

Have you tried another brand of media?

Checked the settings under device manager of the IDE Controllers?

Otherwise sounds like a dud.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

That does sound like a long time either way, even a 2X burn filling the entire disc should take under an hour. My burner has been spastic lately and I've been forced to burn anime at 2.4X or the disc usually duds so I would know, it's usually only about 25 minutes for a full disc.

I don't have any solutions, it honestly sounds like it's the burner, though you could try another brand of discs to see if that helps.

What's the current transfer mode? DMA or PIO?

Make sure it's set on DMA.

Also, they say that your DVD drive and Hard drive shouldn't share the same IDE cable.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Unless his computer is a lot older than that DVD burner, he's probably not using IDE hard drives.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Well, I have a Dell Dimension 3k and they are set up on the same IDE cable. I was going to try and switch them around, but I don't have any cables long enough.

So before I go get a new one, it's not going to affect anything if I take the single device cable for the system HD and change it to a two device cable and hook the DVD writer to it instead of my storage drive, will it?

I meant to say that I only heard about that. I've never had to worry about that situation because I have a SATA Hard drive.

But do check what your transfer mode is for the DVD Drive.
This page has pictures on how to check it.

Make sure your secondary IDE channel is set to DMA.
If it already is on DMA, then I'm stumped.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Well, apparently my second IDE device was set to PIO (is that the first or second connector on the cable, cuz my storage drive is the the second or end cable).

I followed those intstructions, but it just reset it back to PIO. I don't have any of the box or shit for that HD, so I don't know anything about it without ripping it out. I dunno what to do about that, but I will still try seperating them off the same bus cable still.

Basicalyl PIO is slow mode. As long as it is set to PIO things won't get any better. Maybe try searching for updated motherboard drivers?

Not wanting to bump the thread, I'm curious. Are you burning Data, or are you burning movies (using nero to convert)

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
