After I backup all the data on this piece of shit vaio laptop (VGN-FS550) I'm going to install Vista on it. It's currently choking like a little bitch on XP Pro.
Specs: Intel Pentium M processor 1.60 GHz 798 MHz, 504 MB of RAM 80 GB HDD Intel 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset 128 MB This is going to be fucking hilarious! ='D So what sorts of stupid things have you done or plan to do or wish to do to your/a computer? Btw, I'll let you know how this turns out and yes I actually do have drivers. =') Jam it back in, in the dark. |
When I had my old Compaq Presario 2100...
AMD something 1.2GHz 192MB of RAM 20GB HDD ATi Radeon somethingbad 64MB ...I decided it'd be a fun idea to try some new third party video drivers recommended to me by a friend! Result: Getting up at 4 AM before school, trawling the internet for the original drivers WHICH WERE FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND. Extensive googling finally led me to some Korean's server. Result: I was stuck with a driver version that was lower than what I had before my controversial idea. Videos stuttered from then on, and UT2K4 went from running at around 20fps on low settings to somewhere about 10. That whole episode (and the computer itself) sucked. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I installed Windows 2000 as my first file server on a piece of shit 486DX 66-Mhz Packard Bell. I had to put in 256 megs of memory for it to work but it boot up...but it seriously took over an hour to get through the boot up process. But once it booted, it actually worked well as a file server.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
Haha yeah you can do some amazing things with those old 486 machines.
I've backed up all my files so now I'm going to do this thang. This ought to be good. =D I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Flipped the voltage switch on the back of a PSU once, while it was in operation and powering a computer, won't ever be doing that again
![]() In my early days I went at a dusty computer with a vacuum cleaner too ![]() I was speaking idiomatically. |
Well looks like this thing is up and running. It bitched about a thing or two and it seems to despise having even a light antivirus like NOD32 running in the background but it can run firefox, all my media, photoshop, and more just fine. The laptop isn't good enough to run aero though so its default vista theme looks like ass. I'd really like to find a vista theme that doesn't use aero glass at all like those good ol' XP themes. I'm defragging the harddrive right now and then I'll take a big ol dump with my data back onto it. Yeah, hopefully it'll have maybe 20 gigs free or so. Not a whole lot really.
This took a hell of a lot longer than it should have. It was a bit slow at installing certain things. I'll see how I like it and if I think I can stick with it I will otherwise I'll either slap XP Pro on it again or just use another laptop because this one is rather poor. How ya doing, buddy? |
Well contrary to the Internet, with Aero stripped from Vista its actually a bit more efficient OS than XP is.

Just buy some RAM its dirt cheap nowadays and will definately speed Vista up.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
