My next nom is better than your nom:
Album: 19XX- The War Against Destiny Composers: Syun Nishigaki (Kobekko), Tatsuro Zuzuki Track: City light in the black strait (Mission 5) Track #: 12 Catalogue Number: VICL-2168 Source: Game Music Revolution , 19xx - the war against destiny at arcade-history: video games, pinballs, slot machines, etc. Info: I'm not sure if the album actually credited composers; clarification would be appreciated. This is two years overdue. EDIT: Oh god, someone finally nominated Ark ![]() There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]()

Ark or Arc? ;p
Question: What happens if I pull a song from a vocal collection for bishoujo games, but I don't know the exact game. Because that's what my iPod gave me to work with for my next nomination. Long story short, it's track 13 "Kotae" by Under 17 from this thing: UNDER17 / Best 1 Bishojo Game Song ni Ai wo!! This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
I'm taking over this town...

Kotae is most likely the ending theme of Popotan, which just happens to be one of my favorite game soundtracks

Just want to say that Kukuru rocks. It's like a _DH_ song except not nominated by _DH_.
I was speaking idiomatically.
Check out my original music at my Soundcloud page!
Latest music rips (updated January 10, 2012): SimCity DS - Jazz/ambient/electronic music including interesting reworkings of songs from the fantastic SimCity 3000 soundtrack Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels? Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more ![]()

So officially, I have a new nom: Album: UNDER17 Best Album 1 ~Bishoujo Game Song Ni Ai Wo !!~ Disc: 1 of 1 Track: 13 Name: Kotae Note: Ending Theme for Bishoujo Game "Popotan". Also, totally random. Again. Still waiting for my iPod to feed me an end-level jingle or something...Are SFX tracks allowed? Info: UNDER17 / Best 1 Bishojo Game Song ni Ai wo!! Download: Send big files the easy way. Files too large for email attachments? No problem! Drakken: First thing that crossed my mind as well. _DH_'s legacy must live! Arc is one of those albums I greatly enjoy when I put on, but isn't always the first thing to cross my mind...So it was just kind of sitting on the pod for the longest time and its' number got called. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?
I'm taking over this town...

Arc the Lad Original Game Sound Track - Kukuru: The style and tone reminds me of the opening theme to "Entertainment Tonight". That's not meant as an insult, it's just an observation. It bothers me that this is the kind of guitar some would call "generic" because I always think of it as "warm" and "inviting". The supporting elements were pretty sharp as well. In summary, I enjoyed this track quite a bit.
HEADHUNTER REDEMPTION HEADHUNTER Original Soundtrack Recording - Ramirez At Bay: The ubiquitous military-themed track. This one has the benefit of building upon itself in a pleasing manner, though I enjoyed the first half more than the darker-toned second half. However, the overall arrangement is impressive, even if it's not my thing, and I'll give it a deserved tip-o'-the-hat for that. Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu (NES Game Rip) - BGM 02: A very competent little chiptune. It's so difficult to evaluate chiptunes and dramatic scores like the HEADHUNTER track on an even scale because they're musical apples and oranges. But I think this one could stand head-to-head with most of the modernized nominations. A keeper, for sure. Mars Matrix & Giga Wing 2 Original Soundtrack - Ark: A track that is too dramatic, overwrought and monotonous to have any resonance with me. MELTY BLOOD Act Cadenza Ver.B BGM Collection - for Crimson Air (Night of Wallachia Stage): Meltyblood has some good stuff and there's a particular track that I've been considering for nomination myself. I've known about this track for a while and it's only okay for me. I think it suffers from identity crisis; the jazz-funk piano disco sections are highly enjoyable but the other parts grate on me. If there was more variation between each aspect, I'd like this more. METAL BLACK -The First- - Time: Although there's nothing explicitly wrong with this piece, I couldn't easily get into it. I guess it lacked a distinctive quality that would've grabbed my attention. This bums me out as it was a "Yack" composition and I had high hopes. Moshimo Ashita ga Hare Naraba Extra Soundtrack - Examination of Moonlight: Odd. Even though I usually enjoy airy compositions, this one didn't work for me. My main criticism would be that it felt too mundane, almost meaningless in its existence. As filler music goes, it's okay but it doesn't stand out well against this week's competition. I do like the name, however. R-Type Delta Original Sound Trax - Stage 4 (Corrosion): This was okay until it went into "Attention Deficit Mode" with the frenetic techno samples at 2:54. Anything that this track was building toward was instantly wiped clean by the brutal onslaught of raver diarrhea. Let's disperse some numbers. I liked three of these tracks a lot, so we'll make it a clean split. 2 Points: Arc the Lad Original Game Sound Track - Kukuru 2 Points: HEADHUNTER REDEMPTION HEADHUNTER Original Soundtrack Recording - Ramirez At Bay 2 Points: Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu (NES Game Rip) - BGM 02 This was an average week. Hits, misses and a couple in-betweeners. FELIPE NO

I really like Action Kung Fu, very fun track and NES stuff generally does well with me, so that's a winner for me.
Hahaha, oh man, somebody went and nominated a Giga Wing 2 song! Ark isn't really my favorite from the soundtrack but it's still quite good, so ridiculously over the top, awesome. The way I make music, I really don't have the right to complain about people being over the top. The other tracks are just kinda okay for me, but Kukuru has a certain innocence and charm that can't be denied so I'll give the leftover point to it. In general there seem to be a lot of annoying "melodic" arp-type things that don't work for me this round, particularly the R-Type Delta and Melty Blood tracks. I really dislike it when a song is in a weird meter to just play every beat like Corrosion does. It just really cheapens the unique effect that an interesting meter can have, making it sound like the guy had no idea what he was doing with it. When the brass comes in around 1:00 (and other times) it saves itself momentarily, but it's too little too late. Votes: 3 points - Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu (NES Game Rip) - BGM 02 2 points - Mars Matrix & Giga Wing 2 Original Soundtrack - Ark 1 point - Arc the Lad Original Game Sound Track - Kukuru Most amazing jew boots |
Wow, this week takes the cake in its suckiness.
(3 points) Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu (NES Game Rip) - BGM 02 (2 points) METAL BLACK -The First- - Time (1 point) Mars Matrix & Giga Wing 2 Original Soundtrack - Ark How ya doing, buddy? |
Arc the Lad Original Game Sound Track - Kukuru Sounds like the theme track to a 1980's sitcom. That's not necessarily a bad thing, just an observation. Cheesy, but it has its moments.
HEADHUNTER REDEMPTION HEADHUNTER Original Soundtrack Recording - Ramirez At Bay Sounds kind of like something out of the Hitman series, in that it combines heavy electronics with a more acoustic sound. A few times I was reminded of Rocky, for some reason; maybe the song kind of sounded like a training montage. Pretty good. Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu (NES Game Rip) - BGM 02 A decent chiptune. Maybe I've been jaded by all the great stuff from our chiptune contest, but I expected more given the positive comments. Mars Matrix & Giga Wing 2 Original Soundtrack - Ark A heavy, dramatic-sounding track with lots of swirling strings. It was nice at first, but the track eventually grew tiresome when it didn't really build to anything. MELTY BLOOD Act Cadenza Ver.B BGM Collection - for Crimson Air (Night of Wallachia Stage) I've often wondered what having melty blood would entail, exactly--is it frozen, or bursting out of the veins so violently that despite already being liquid it melts again? That conundrum aside, the music itself was decent, but nothing spectacular. METAL BLACK -The First- - Time I seem to remember a Metal Black track in some contest or other that was truly dire yet reaped praise from people who'd played the game. This song, however, is far from dire, and has some good points, though it's ultimately too incoherent for my taste. Moshimo Ashita ga Hare Naraba Extra Soundtrack - Examination of Moonlight A pleasant song, but insubstantial--there's not much to set it apart from legions of other "peaceful/happy" tunes. R-Type Delta Original Sound Trax - Stage 4 (Corrosion) This one's all over the map, veering drunkenly from style to style without anything to hold the different parts together. Way too schizophrenic for me. Nothing really spoke to me this week, though only one of the tracks was really bad. Guess it's time to load up the 'ol shotgun. The Buckshot Spread Ramirez At Bay - 1 pt. BGM 02 - 1 pt. Ark - 1 pt. for Crimson Air (Night of Wallachia Stage) - 1 pt. Time - 1 pt. Examination of Moonlight - 1 pt. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
I don't go this week? Good, time for a better nom.
Phantasy Star Sound Collection 1 Track 4 PS2 Field Medley This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Hey, mom, watch this. Deep breath.
3 Points - Stage 4 (Corrosion) First and foremost, I have the utmost respect for however anyone votes. I was contemplating just doing this competition by nominating and possibly not voting. But that would be what we call "retarded." Anyway, I agree the structure of melody as far as Corrosion goes is all over the place, but I feel the eventual insanity is what ties into the title. I would argue that there is structure... I'd just find myself in a critical argument with melody vs. beat. I really love this track, that last minute just really seals it for me when the strings kick in. There's no such thing as a "Defense" for a track, or anything for that matter, that starts out with "You just don't get it." But what I seem to hear that others haven't commented on is the percussion. Percussion is what most of the great tracks from the R-Type Delta OST are built around. I believe I might try nominating Stage 6 for something that has a bit more "consistency." Still, "raver diarrhea" or not, I do recognize I had my ear on something that would be classified as personal interpretation of a track. So, no, everyone "gets" the music just fine. I just want to say that I love the percussion and the way most tracks from this OST tie into that. And again, that last minute is beautiful. 2 points - Ramirez At Bay - Not as long winded here, I just have to say that I have a weakness for Richard Jaques. I'm looking to find his work on the European version of Super Shinobi. Europe definitely didn't suffer musically from that reworking and this track is kind of indicative as to why this man is talented. 1 point - Ark - This is the only "soft spot" vote I'm actually handing out. I have a fondness for this track that is built around "Hey, I played that game guys." I is a sellout. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
Two songs I enjoyed this week, the rest were kind of ehh.
3 points - Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu (NES Game Rip) - BGM 02 I love well done chiptunes, and this is definitely one of them. 2 points - METAL BLACK -The First- - Time Guess I can cross this off my list of potential noms. 1 point - R-Type Delta Original Sound Trax - Stage 4 (Corrosion) The best of the rest. Not amazing, but this was pretty unique and caught my interest over the rest of the stuff. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
3 points - Kukuru

Great week. I liked everything, so negative details below are just flaws I found inside of the greatness.
Arc the Lad Original Game Sound Track - Kukuru Since I couldn't vote for everything, had to push this one out. HEADHUNTER REDEMPTION HEADHUNTER Original Soundtrack Recording - Ramirez At Bay One of my faves! May be a military tune, but it really does give you the feel like you're in the middle of something BIG! The song's atmosphere consistently builds itself, and the style doesn't stay the same all the way through, but keeps changing, I feel. Love it. Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu (NES Game Rip) - BGM 02 I listened to it the first time and thought it was awesome. But to compare it to all the arranged tracks, I listened to it again and tried to imagine it being played with instruments, and while the chorus sounds good, the rest of it is here and there, and I think if it was arranged, I wouldn't like it as much. Mars Matrix & Giga Wing 2 Original Soundtrack - Ark Love this. Maybe it doesn't really change through the 5 minutes, but sometimes that's not what I look for in a song. The volume was kinda low compared to theh other mp3s, and I think to fully enjoy this song, you have to turn the speakers WAYYYY UP and let the sound immerse you. That's what I want to do every time I hear it. And I have to give credit for a song that screams "LOUDER" every time I play it, especially if it's not heavy metal. MELTY BLOOD Act Cadenza Ver.B BGM Collection - for Crimson Air (Night of Wallachia Stage) Kool tune, but the frequent switch of atmospheres from tense to mellow and back doesn't really work for me. METAL BLACK -The First- - Time The intro took way too long for this song, and with the way it played out, I expected a more climactic listen. Moshimo Ashita ga Hare Naraba Extra Soundtrack - Examination of Moonlight I usually don't like piano solos and such, but this artist really pulled it off, all while still keeping it simple. R-Type Delta Original Sound Trax - Stage 4 (Corrosion) Like everybody else said, this track is in too many places at once. Hard to like over the others. 3 points: Mars Matrix & Giga Wing 2 Original Soundtrack - Ark 2 points: HEADHUNTER REDEMPTION HEADHUNTER Original Soundtrack Recording - Ramirez At Bay 1 point: Moshimo Ashita ga Hare Naraba Extra Soundtrack - Examination of Moonlight What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() |
