Sci-Fi Channel brings their anime back to life

According to ANN, they are airing some old shows and new ones.

Quote:
Sci Fi Wire, a news service of the Sci Fi Channel, reports that the network's new Ani-Monday programming block will eventually show the Ninja Scroll movie, Blood: The Last Vampire, the Read or Die video series, Black Jack The Movie, and Street Fighter II V. Sci Fi's online schedule has already revealed the June showings of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society, Noein, Tokko, and Macross Plus.
This is freakin' sweet. I never got to look at Noein or Tokko. Hopefully someone can fill in some info about it. I've been a blackjack fan for awhile but I never got to see the movie yet. Im not all hyped up with RoD cause I know how great it is. I am interested to see the TV series dubbed though. If I remember right Adult Swim only aired the OVA.

It's not a bad line-up but I hope to expect more. Like a little Galaxy Express and animes that are connected to it. Watching Macross Plus will be a pleasure . No one can't forget the unforgettable Sharon Apple moments and all the action.

I love the news.. I hope to see some more animes coming out. For Sci-Fi, Im sure they aren't going censor anything. I think Tenjou Tenge was supposed to air in a certain channel but not sci-fi...

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Adult Swim showed the OVA, and G4 showed the TV series back when they had their 'Anime Unleashed' lineup.

But yeah, I'm excited to see some of these shows, so I can't wait for this to start. I don't really download many fansubbed shows, so watching stuff on TV is about the only way I get exposure to new shows other than buying them on DVD.

I don't know about it being uncensored, though. I remember watching one of those Fatal Fury OVAs on Sci-Fi years ago, and they censored all the naughty bits. Can't remember if they did language as well, though.

How ya doing, buddy?

BLACK JACK.

Fucking win. This series NEEDS a US fanbase. Maybe someone will actually start working on the god damn manga again.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
Hey, maybe you should try that thing Chie was talking about.

What's the possibility of Noir being shown on sci-fi? Hearing the other animes listed there gives me HOPE.

This is most likely an exclusive deal just between Sci-Fi and Manga Entertainment, as all the listed titles are from the Manga Ent. catalogue. So at least for now, I don't think you're going to see anything that's not licensed by them being aired.

And since ADV, which owns the rights to Noir, I believe has its own channel (Anime Network, was it?) I'd be surprised if they'd show any of their stuff anywhere but on there.

Wow, that's great news. I've already seen most of those titles. Only thing I'm really looking forward to is GitS - SSS

Ditto. I heard Solid State Society is pretty damn good, so I'll be catching it before its DVD release a few days later. And you're right, some other channel got Tenjou Tenghe.

Tenjou Tenge will air on that channel "Fuse" (channel 56). If I'm right, I think they aired Heatguy J back in 2003-4.

btw, did anyone catch what Adult Swim thought about it yesterday?

"R.O.D. - Aired it
Blood - Aired it (Did they air the movie? I dont remember O.o)
Ninja Scroll - That's cool
Ghost in the Shell SSS - Aired the previous 2 seasons
Blackjack - Wha?"

I hate Adult Swim all over again for that last crack Black Jack is fucking awesome and gets no respect in the US. It's literally one of the top mangas ever in Japan, and the anime is very faithful.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Well, they let Adult Swim show Evangelion last year. But for the most part, I doubt they would let other channels air any of their stuff.

Blood - Aired it (Did they air the movie? I dont remember O.o)
No, they've only been airing the series. I specifically downloaded the movie to watch before the series because they never showed it.

It doesent matter who ADV lets show thier stuff because G4 aired both Colorful and Abenobashi.

This announcement is pretty good looking back at what fandom I had back in the day (little to none, 1998 mind you). I hope the older stuff gets played (Green Legend RAN, Urusei Yatsura 2nd movie, some Tenchi movies, IRIA) because it will be a nostalga fest since I have seen the newer stuff over and over .

AS is probably just pissed that they cant air thier shit earlier OR it seems to me that there might be some competition but I highly doubt that, however, that BlackJack comment shows how much they care about the genre (its a fucking classic which has been around for over half a century).

Yeah, the commenter at Adult Swim obviously has no idea what he's talking about. Black Jack is crazy good.

The movie was sick. I gave it another watch the other day then I caught an episode of Blood+. And I don't like the way it looks. Doesn't look as dark as the movie. Maybe I'm not giving it a chance. Perhaps someone can shed some good light on it so I don't put it down.

And to add to what Adult Swim said.

" How do we plan on countering?
Answer : Family Guy"

I've watched all of what Adult swim has aired so far of Blood+ (up to episode 12, I believe), and while it definitely isn't as dark as the movie, it's still good in its own ways. But while the movie was more about action, the show so far has been more of a character driven affair. There is action, it's just not the focus of the show.

I initially didn't like it (especially compared to the movie), but it eventually grew on me. I'd say watch at least the first five or so episodes, and if you still don't like it by then you'll probably never like it.

Awesome, I used to be a BIG fan of SciFi's yearly anime runs. Green Legend RAN, Venus Wars, Urusei Yatsura: Beautiful Dreamer...I would have never seen any of those if it wasn't for their showing on SciFi.

As far as [AS] goes: screw them and their terrible new shows. If it wasn't for Futurama, I doubt I'd even watch [AS] until Shin-Chan or the Venture Brothers came on. And Saul of the Mole Men is the worst thing on the air, at least that's what I would say if that other "Awesome Show" wasn't on. Make it stop, Cartoon Network, make it stop.

I don't get Sci-Fi channel, so I hope they're not showing ROD:TV which I missed.

Tokko is nothing special, and I don't think they could censor any of the gore/naked parts. It's another inconclusive series with little development so don't hold your breath.

Man, I haven't been watching the whole thing, but I just saw a little bit of GitS: SSS, and they were blurring out some robot-maid looking woman's (at least I think that's what she was) ass. I knew they were gonna edit/censor stuff on here, even showing it this late at night.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

So far the only things I've seen censored in GitS:SAC:SSS were:

Spoiler:
Those robot maids having their bare-bottoms censored, dunno why. I guess their thongs are showing too much or something

Poot//Pooto seemed to have a tiny censorship, it sounded like he was saying "Fuckers" when he said he wanted to kill them all but they just let it be silent.

Everything else seems to be left untouched, but I'll have to double check with the original to see. I haven't seen it since the original release.

I'm gonna have to agree with Lacerta, it seems like very little was edited and/or it was done pretty smoothly if there was a lot of it.

Spoiler:
Hopefully it wasn't just me, but it seemed like the Major's ass was censored as well in that last scene. The folks blowing their brains out was left in, as was the Puppeteer guy shooting himself.

Either way, I enjoyed it.

Hey was anyone able to confirm R.O.D. to be the TV series ? And did Blackjack air or was it only SSS?

EDIT: seeing that the movie was long I'd assume that it took the whole block. So starting next monday, 3 animes will start airing.

11:00 - Noein - Blue Snow
11:30 - Tokko - Awakening
12:00-1:00am - Macross Plus Episode 1.

When Macross Plus ends. Street Fighter 2V will being airing on July 16 starting with episode 1 and 2. Looks like I'll have to cop' that special edition dvd of Solid State after all =/. Also on the 30th of July, Highlander the Animated movie will make its sci-fi debut. Not sure if i want to check this out. I heard it bombed horribly.

So after re-watching the Japanese version,

Spoiler:
yeah that one censor with the maids was pretty much just to prevent their butts from showing. You can show people blowing up their faces but not a bare butt.

I still think Poot was calling them fuckers, or motherfuckers, or something of that nature. That silence (along with the fact his mouth was moving) kind of bothered me so I guess that's why D:

I think the Major was wearing skimpier underwear in the last scene too, but I dunno. At that point I wasn't really staring at her butt.

I've already pre-ordered the limited edition DVD. According to Rightstuf (who I didn't pre-order from, but they had a description of the thing) it contains:

DVD Features: Uchikomatic Days, Work World File, Designing the Future Car, Making of Tachikoma Robot, English Production Interview, Mitsuhisa Ishikawa Interview, Trailers, Storyboards, Behind-the-Scenes Interview.
I personally think the $20 price difference (even less if you buy it online due to discounts and stuff) is worth it, but I'm a huge fan of the series so don't listen to me.

Highlander the Animated movie will make its sci-fi debut. Not sure if i want to check this out. I heard it bombed horribly.
I wasn't even aware that Highlander had an Animated Movie. I am kind of afraid of what that holds...

Well, like I said, I just turned it on at that one time, so it was pretty disheartening to see it being edited at the one time I tuned in. And even though there wasn't that much editing, compared to what AS would have had (which, based on the edits made, it seems like there would have been none) it still seems like a lot.

Anyway, I'm not even sure if it's coming on Sci-Fi again, so I'll probably just wind up buying the DVD version.

AS would probably have the same edits:

They aren't really allowed to show nudity on basic cable (well, there is no regulation saying you cannot, but a lot of networks don't want to risk the loss from advertisers it might cause), if you've seen Stand Alone Complex and 2nd GIG there have been a few scenes during the series where the nudity was either removed or censored. I guess if she was wearing granny panties instead of a thong they wouldn't have censored it. Then again I don't really see the fuss about it, it's just a butt. An animated butt even.

I doubt they would let poot's original line air on basic cable without changing it somewhat.

The blood and violence would have stayed the same since that wasn't edited.

Basically it would have been exactly the same as Sci-Fi's except with the [adult swim] watermark logo and the various adult swim bumps and commercials.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
