Video Card Issue
I have an issue with my video card that came up recently that I'm wondering if you guys can help me with.
I just recently purchased a new ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 521MB AGP Graphics card from new egg. I am using a Nvidia chipset motherboard and my previous graphics card was a Nvidia Geforce FX 5900. I have never experienced installing a different brand of graphics cards, but I didn't think it would cause this much trouble. I began uninstalling all my old Nvidia Display drivers, and once done I proceeded to turn off my computer. I installed my new video card, but try as I may, I can't get the computer to recognize the new hardware. I think at this point I have a few ideas of what may be the problem, but I'm not sure. For one, my BIOS is a few years old. It could be having compatibility issues with my motherboard. Two, and I don't think this is likely, but can you put ATI cards into a Nvidia based board? I think I've read somewhere that this shouldn't be a problem. Anyway, the bottom line is, I can't get my computer to recognize my new video card. Do any of you have any suggestions as to what I should do? Here are my specs. I apologize about the huge chunk of text that is going to be posted here: Computer Info -------------------------------------------- Computer Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Professional OS Service Pack Service Pack 2 Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.2180 Motherboard CPU Type AMD Athlon XP-A, 2079 MHz (6.25 x 333) 2800+ Motherboard Name Asus A7N8X-X (5 PCI, 1 AGP, 3 DIMM, Audio, LAN) Motherboard Chipset nVIDIA nForce2 400 System Memory 1024 MB (DDR SDRAM) BIOS Type Award (08/19/03) Communication Port Communications Port (COM1) Communication Port ECP Printer Port (LPT1) Display Video Adapter nVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 3D Accelerator nVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 Multimedia Audio Adapter nVIDIA MCP2 - Audio Codec Interface Storage Floppy Drive Floppy disk drive Disk Drive HDS722512VLAT20 (120 GB, 7200 RPM, Ultra-ATA/100) Disk Drive Memorex Mini TravelDrive USB Device Optical Drive _NEC DVD_RW ND-3520AW Optical Drive 56X CD-ROM (56x CD-ROM) Optical Drive Memorex Mini TravelDrive USB Device BIOS INFO --------- BIOS Properties Vendor Phoenix Technologies, LTD Version ASUS A7N8X-X ACPI BIOS Rev 1006 Release Date 08/19/2003 Size 256 KB Boot Devices Floppy Disk, Hard Disk, CD-ROM, ATAPI ZIP, LS-120 Capabilities Flash BIOS, Shadow BIOS, Selectable Boot, EDD Supported Standards DMI, APM, ACPI, PnP Expansion Capabilities PCI, AGP, USB Motherboard Properties Motherboard ID 08/19/2003-nVidia-nForce-A7N8XÄXC-00 Motherboard Name Asus A7N8X-X Front Side Bus Properties Bus Type DEC Alpha EV6 Bus Width 64-bit Real Clock 166 MHz (DDR) Effective Clock 333 MHz Bandwidth 2661 MB/s Chipset Bus Properties Bus Type HyperTransport v1.0 Bus Width 8-bit Motherboard Physical Info CPU Sockets/Slots 1 Expansion Slots 5 PCI, 1 AGP RAM Slots 3 DIMM Integrated Devices Audio, LAN Form Factor ATX Motherboard Size 240 mm x 300 mm Motherboard Chipset nForce2-400 Extra Features Q-Fan, CPU Overheating Protection Motherboard Manufacturer Company Name ASUSTeK Computer Inc. At least for windows the uninstallation of graphics drivers removes only a tiny part of the things that the driver installtion routine does to the system (apart from copying files). Google for some tools to clean your system (especially windows registry) from old gfx driver entries and such. There should be some tools out there.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Alright, I downloaded a program that deletes all my drivers that I specify. I will try and plug the video card back in and see if that works.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
