Windows Shortcuts

So, I'm adding shortcuts on my Passport Drive, so the drive letter changes frequently. My question is, is there a universal path I can toss down that doesn't require a drive letter at the start?

I tried leaving the letter off all-together, but that didn't seem to work.

EDIT: Just realized this is in the wrong forum. If it could be moved to the Help Desk, that'd be awesome. Thanks.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Why not nail the passport drive to one particular drive letter, say... Q?

Start -> run -> diskmgmt.msc
Right-click the drive in question and "change the drive letter and path" to something sufficiently high.

Wouldn't I have to change the setting on each PC so that the drive showed up as that letter though?

I don't have ANY kind of access to that on the PCs at work, and I seriously doubt the school PCs would allow me to do that either.
