Ghost Squad
I had been wondering why there weren't already some light-gun style games available for the Wii, considering the system seems perfect for this genre. I went nosing around and found out that SEGA is bringing the excellent Ghost Squad to the Wii (if you haven't played Ghost Squad in the arcade, think Virtua Cop with lots of upgrades).
Here's a video of some gameplay (sorry for the quality, it's shot from an arcade machine).
Here are more videos of the Arcade version, of which the Wii version is going to be an upgraded port. The Wii version is going to include 2 and 4-player Co-Op as well as a "competitive" mode. I'm not really sure what "competitive" means aside from perhaps a form of racing through the stages, since it would be hard to play against other players any other way in an on-rails shooter. It's also supposedly going to have a pack-in shell for the wiimote to case it more in the style of an assault rifle, to emulate the arcade play. Although it's no House of the Dead, this game sure looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. And I'm sure if thise game does well (why wouldn't it?), House of the Dead won't be far behind. How ya doing, buddy?

<@a_lurker> There, I said it, I'm not taking it back. |
I remember reading somewhere that said that this version isn't going to be as good as the arcade version.
![]() Anyway, Wii needs more rail shooters, and hopefully this will deliver. I've never actually seen this game anywhere (oh wait, Arcades are basically dead...and I live in a shit town), but I'm sure this game couldn't be bad. I loved House of the Dead, as well as Virtua Cop...and basically all SEGA rail shooters. As for "competitive" multiplayer, I'm guessing it will be 2-4 players simultaneously and you just try to kill the guys faster or something. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I do like that they're releasing more of these on the Wii, but you have to admit Ghost Squad was kickass because of the kickass assault rifle, so I see this losing a good two thirds of the appeal.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
I was just going to mention that too. The wii controller is a poor substitute, honestly. Oh well, I'm sure it'll still be fun. Too bad they aren't trying to make special adapters for these things.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I've been waiting for rail shooters as well. The only games I'm willing to purchase on the Virtual Console are Virtua Cop 1 and 2 if they decide to release Saturn games.
*note, if you try you can hold the Wii controller sortof like a gun. It's no assault rifle, but it isn't that bad. I was speaking idiomatically. |
Supposedly they're releasing a shell for the controller so that it's similar to the assault rifle in the arcade. It may just be a rumor, though.
I think I mentioned that in the first post? What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?
