No-Name TV Tuner Box ANNOY! I.M ANGER!

Okay, so as a GFFer my knowledge for technology is quite n00bish. My second thread in Gamingforce computing for this week, but this time I've got a problem with a TV tuner given to me by my cousin.

You see, my cousin managed to snag his own TV for his room, rendering his TV Tuner Box useless. Using this opportunity, I ask for the TV Box Tuner and get it from him. From then I started getting stabbed by the damn thing cause it WANTS TO TAKE OVER HUMANITY.

Not quite, but while I've done tests to confirm it's working, I haven't been able to get a picture with both my 15 inch LCD monitor and ye olde 13-inch CRT monitor (which was like, DA BOMB back in 1997). I've tested to see if the Tuner was bunked out. The sound works, the antenna I got works and it seems that if I connect a cable from the video out to a TV, it displays a picture..... OAKELY DOKELY!

So why doesn't it work on any of my computer screens? Anyways, here are the photos for you to help me figure out. The best part is, my cousin's father got it from Thailand and it has no brand name on it. Dodgy or WHUT?!

The No-Name TV Box Tuner

This would be to connect a DVD Player or Game Console, right?

Just So We Know What the Right Side Says

Left to Right: Power, Monitor, VGA In, Speaker, Line In

Left to Right Part 2: Line In (Same One as Before), Video Out and Antenna

So is there a certain way I have to set it up? My cousin managed to get it working for his LCD screen. Why not mine?

Thanks in advance!

Jam it back in, in the dark.

How exactly are you connecting it?

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Oh, that's what I forgot -_-'...

I've tried connecting the TV Tuner Box to a monitor with a VGA cable. A cable from the monitor to the TV Box's "monitor" port. It didn't work. Then I tried connecting a yellow video cable to a VGA/Composite convertor, and putting in the VGA connector to the monitor. That didn't work either.

Any ideas?

How ya doing, buddy?

Right. I'm double posting (THE SHAME), but I'm kind of desperate to get some ideas on why my TV tuner isn't displaying anything on my screen.

I've tried all the connections offered on the back but still no cigar. Ideas?

I've never worked with TV boxes personally (I just wanted you to give more information to help troubleshoot), but you should try asking the person you got it from first.

I was speaking idiomatically.

My thought is that it may be the tuner box is outputting a resoloution to the monitor that it cannot handle (doubtful as analogue TV resolution is only 320x240). I know most modern CRT's will tell you this in the OSD, but older ones may just go blank. Another think to try would be to bring the box over to a friends house with an analouge LCD monitor and see if you are getting simmilar results. If you have any sort of video input (SVIDEO) on your PC's video card you could see if you can at least get output that way. I am also thinking it could a Macrovision issue, but then you would at least be seeing something (random garbage/scrambled picture.)

Ultimately though, it could just be that the box isn't designed to work with computer monitors. The fact that you have no manual, or support site leaves you with little to go on in the event absolutely nothing works. I would try to find a serial number/model number or maybe ask your father if he knows anything else about it.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?
