Astronomical Phenomena
the only reason i bring up this thread is because of the lunar eclipse that will be occurring in a couple hours (essentially meaning that it will be abandoned shortly after i lose interest of the glowing moon).
it seems to be opportunistic for those of us on the west coast of the US, as it will happen from 1:52 am to 4:22 am with the moon rather high in the sky. this will be the second lunar eclipse of the year. i'm gonna stay up and catch a wink of it. i can't remember the last time i saw one. how about any of you... busy in the next couple of hours? Jam it back in, in the dark. |
It happened here from 5 to 5:30. I was helping out a friend pretty late, it was already around 4:30, so I figured, "what the hell?" The moon sank like a lead balloon; I could barely see it over the top of the trees when the last sliver disappeared. We had the eclipse in front of us, the sunrise behind a silhouette of trees in back, a strange fog sitting over the fields, and clouds that looked like they were painted on the ceiling, with Beirut playing over the radio. It was truly bizarre shit.
The stars were beautiful before the sunlight came peering over the horizon. I don't stargaze nearly enough, and mostly when I'm plastered. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
I live in Chicago so I can't see shit, but it pains me to know I missed a lunar eclipse.
I only vividly remember experiencing an eclipse. It was of the solar variety, and those few minutes were truly surreal. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
lol. it was kinda sad. i poked my nose out at some 2:00am, the eclipse at that time was partial, so i decided to poke around the forums to buy time. low and behold they perform site maintenance, and i pass out waking 5 hours too late. what i saw was still kinda cool though: as i stepped out of the threshold of the front door, i was greeted by a shooting star and the ground cast in the eerie glow of the rust colored moon was an interesting sight beheld.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
What hell, I wish I would have saw this thread last night... I was up during those hours, too. :\
I was speaking idiomatically. |
Im an astronomy buff. Its prolly the only hobby I'm really passionate about. Though I don't own a telescope, I do alot of reading about various space type things, I try to catch the eclipses (both solar and lunar) whenever I can... and when Im outside at night, I tend to look up more then I look forwards.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
Just 15 minutes ago my brother in law told me that he was watching the lunar eclipse and I was wondering why he didn't tell me and then it hit me... He was watching it at 3 am PST or so. :/
Oh well... There's always next February! FELIPE NO |
Mm, I saw the eclipse for about ten minutes or so last night. It was pretty cool.
I have a tendency to look in the night sky for about five minutes every night. It can be pretty captivating and shit. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I missed it. I missed the meteor shower that happened earlier this month too. I'm just full of fail lately.
![]() Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Speaking of astronomical phenomena, here's something else: the Aurigid meteor shower is due to peak in about two and a half hours. Those of us on the west coast of the United States are lucky again, as that's the best spot to view the shower.
I don't really think I'll be up to watch it, but for those interested it should be pretty spectacular. Most amazing jew boots ![]() |
