Bootup problem...

Hello all!

I have an Asus MB, and just recently it has been giving me an error message when I boot up the computer. After it POSTs, it says,

"WARNING: Your computer CHIP fan fail or speed to low."

Is this just saying that the CPU fan has bit the dust (literally and figuratively), or is it a bigger problem with the mobo?

It might not even have failed yet. It might just be about to fail. It also might not be failing at all. You should take a look and see if it is spinning. If it is, then it could just be an error. Either way, I don't think it implies any bigger of a problem than a potentially faulty fan.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

So I opened the old girl up, and it looks like everything is spinning except the chipset? fan.

(see attachment for pic of fan that is not spinning)

How would I go about replacing this fan?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

That's the worst fan to replace, just because it's a pain in the ass. Pick up something here. The thing is, short of breaking off the old one, you'll have no choice but to take out the motherboard and unclip it from the back.
