Fox orders more 'Simpsons,' 'Hill'

Fox is loading up on animated comedies "The Simpsons" and "King of the Hill."

The network has ordered two more seasons of "The Simpsons," its 18th and 19th, and one more season of "King of the Hill," the show's 11th.

The deal with "Simpsons" producers 20th Century Fox TV and Gracie Films guarantees the series will be on the air at least through the 2007-08 season. The two-year renewal also will include "The Simpsons' " landmark 400th episode.

The show's principal voice cast, which includes Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith and Hank Azaria, are all said to be locked in for the duration of the new deal.

"The Simpsons," the longest-running entertainment primetime series on the air, is executive produced by creator Matt Groening, James L. Brooks and Al Jean.

After a two-month hiatus, production on "King of the Hill" recently resumed, after producing studio 20th TV was able to secure new deals with the principal behind-the-scenes talent, including showrunners/executive producers John Altschuler and David Krinsky and co-creator/executive producer/voice actor Mike Judge.

Also back with new deals are the rest of the members of the show's main voice cast as well as the core group of writers.

Because "King of the Hill" has been a subject of frequent pre-emptions for Fox's NFL football coverage, the network has enough fresh episodes for the rest of this season. The show is slated to return for its 11th season in January.

Also executive producing the series is co-creator Greg Daniels.

The Simpsons isn't really that much of a surprise, but King of the Hill is. I remember reading something at the start of this season that Mike Judge wanted to end the show after this season, so this announcement took me by surprise.

I'm have mixed feelings over both shows though. On the one hand, I'm glad that were getting more episodes, but on the other, it seems pointless unless they improve in quality. It's no secret that both shows have lost their edge over the last few years, so I'd rather see them go now instead of dragging on with shitty episodes for more years to come.

So how do you guys feel? Are you excited over this news, or saddened?

Yeah I thought King of the Hill was over as well. I guess FOX have pursuaded them other wise.

Simpson will probably go on forever. Its one of those shows you can't really go wrong with, sure they are going downhill a little but are still entertaining none the less.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

If The Simpsons ever goes off the air, it will truly be a sad day. Some short-lived shows we watch leave a void when they go away (like, for me, when Ed ended or when Cartoon Network stopped making new Samurai Jack and Courage the Cowardly Dog episodes). Imagine the void left from The Simpsons. What an odd world that would be.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Yeah, but with all the reruns in syndication, no one would notice. Outside of the regular broadcast, it comes on 11 times a week in my area.

The Simpsons have been sucking for the past 4 seasons or so. I ask Fox to please let it die gracefully. They have had too many good episodes for the show to be mired by the crap they're showing today.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I still enjoy Simpsons. Its good, but we don't have as many memorable episodes like Behind the Laughter and such...but its still good.

Too bad Fox sucks. They would know that Futurama is oodles better than King of the Crap.

Yeah I definitely heard that too. Well money changes the world, so apparently he's getting paid pretty well for this upcoming season.

Not forever, but I wouldn't be surprised if my kids grow up watching at least re-runs of The Simpsons.

The Simpsons should have called it quits after season 9 or so. The rest went from mildly tolerable to (more recently) downright atrocious.

You've got to admit though, imagine what it would be like without the Simpsons? Having said that, the reruns probably will last forever.

I haven't watched any new episodes of The Simpsons for about two years, and I haven't really missed it. Mind you, with basic cable in my area there are five channels that play the Simpson's once a day, all at different times, as well as extra broadcasts on the weekend.

I think that King Of The Hill has always been vastly underrated. Since '97 when it started, I think it has consistently had more intelligent, subtler writing than the Simpson's season of the same year.

But, like others, I'd rather see Futurama back (here's hoping).

It isn't a rumor. Billy West himself stated it initially on his forums. He is quite kind to his fan-base.

King of the Hill has been shit since I first saw it. I fail to see how on Earth it made it past season 1. I've watched episodes from time to time and nothing in them strikes me as funny.

But then again, this is the same network that has been beating the dead horse (Simpsons) for over a decade now.
