NCAA Announces 16 Regional Hosts for College Baseball Tournament

I'm going to go ahead and start this off. Don't know if any one gives a shit since college baseball talk here is non-existent. I'm mainly doing this because the NCAA pissed me off by not having my school as a regional host. I wanted to go to some games, man.

Anyway, to quote ESPN...

The teams awarded the privilege of hosting the first round are: Arizona State (43-13); Arkansas (41-18); Coastal Carolina (48-11); Florida State (47-11); Long Beach State (36-18); Missouri (40-16); North Carolina (47-12); Ole Miss (37-23); Rice (48-12); San Diego (42-16); South Carolina (42-18); Texas (44-15); Texas A&M (43-16); Vanderbilt (50-11); Virginia (43-14); and Wichita St. (49-19).

The regional hosted by Coastal Carolina will be played at Coastal Federal Field in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and the regional hosted by Texas will be played at Dell Diamond in Round Rock, Texas.

By virtue of being awarded a regional, eight of the host institutions also have been selected as at-large teams to the 64-team field: Florida State, Long Beach State, Missouri, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Wichita State. Arkansas, North Carolina, Rice, San Diego, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt would clinch automatic berths by winning their respective conference's tournament championship. Arizona State and Coastal Carolina have already clinched automatic berths by winning the Pacific-10 and Big South Conference, respectively. Each regional field features four teams, playing a double-elimination format. Regional play begins Friday.

Coastal Carolina, Missouri, San Diego and Vanderbilt will host a regional for the first time, while Long Beach State, North Carolina and Virginia are hosting for the third time in school history. This will be the 26th time that Florida State has hosted a regional, while Texas is hosting for the 23rd time and Arizona State is hosting for the 17th time. South Carolina (11th) and Wichita State (10th) are the only other institutions to host 10 or more times since the NCAA went to the regional format in 1975.

The remaining at-large teams, top-eight national seeds, first-round regional pairings and site assignments will be announced Monday (ESPN, 12:30 p.m. ET).
I am pretty pissed about my school not getting a regional, though. Here are some excerpts explaining "why" we didn't get a host.

Quote:
"As the committee, we're committed to doing what we can to make things work from a geographic standpoint," NCAA committee chairman Larry Templeton said. "Louisiana-Lafayette was discussed, but geography hurt them a bit. Texas A&M wasn't at the front of the line, but they were on the board."
Can't help geography, but it's not like transportation is a huge problem in this day and age. There are roads and airplanes, damnit.

Quote:
"Louisiana-Lafayette was a team we spent much time on, but when the dust settled losing its conference title game to New Orleans was a knock against them," Templeton said. "Facility was never a concern with the Ragin' Cajuns."
Nevermind the fact that the tournament is double elimination except for the championship game. We ended the tournament 3-1 as did UNO. Forget that we ran away with our conference 23-7, seven games up on the second place finisher, and rank 14th nationally with the RPI.

Anyway, ranting aside, it's college baseball post season! Who are you guys pulling for?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I guess I'll be talking to myself here! =D

Anyway, I'm lazy, so I took screenshots of the 64 teams competing in the NCAA tournament. The credit goes to http://collegebaseball.rivals.com/

Also, download and print out this bracket so you can keep track.
