Did you know they dug Altered Beast back up in 2004 and slapped it in a broken 3D world for PS2? Yeah! It was so good that Sega cancelled the American release after the shocking reviews from across the pond. There was also a GBA game! Bringing really old dead franchises back is nothing new, but lately, there's been a massive EXPLOSION of lightning bolts all around the video gaming graveyard. From games that everyone's like "oh yeah I remember that" to "oh yeah I.. wait, what the hell?" Mainly on the handheld scene. Let's explore!
A Boy and His Blob One of the first games announced for the DS. It uh, got canned. I just wanted to include it anyway. Majesco never gave a reason why, but it was probably shaping up pretty badly. I mean just look at Blob. HE'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE MADE OF SNOT YOU MONSTERS. ![]() After Burner Thrown back into the sky like a paper airplane as After Burner: Black Falcon for PSP. I don't think it's related to the F-Zero GX badguy. UNLESS. Pretty much stays true to the first two where you're constantly blazing forward and barrel rolling at every possible chance because it looks cooler than Jesus on a skateboard. ![]() Alien Syndrome Headed to PSP and Wii via some unknown developer. This is actually the best looking screen I could find, the graphics are a disaster. But as long as it keeps the same mindless fun blasting gameplay, it should be good. Just watch them include escort missions and other rubbish. ;_; This one's a proper new game, unlike the remake found in Sega Classics Collection. ![]() Bubble Bobble Made its way to both PSP and DS. Actually DS has gotten two! Bubble Bobble Evolution on PSP completely ignores the fact that it's called Bubble Bobble. The game's about flipping switches and other dumb shit. You play as kids cosplaying as Bub and Bob who get locked up in a tower. Bubbles are blown via trumpet type things. What an evolution! A++ guys. The first attempt on DS, Bubble Bobble Revolution was just as bad. Actually worse if you bought the American version, because it had a glitch in it that wouldn't let you pass world three. Mmmmm! Bubble Bobble Double Shot however, is pretty faithful. Aside from the whole colour matching bubble thing. Double Shot is out in Europe and Japan, no American release date yet (probably never). ![]() ![]() ![]() Cameltry / On The Ball "What is THIS card, rules for drawn stud poker?" Does anyone remember this one? Old arcade game from Taito, you had to rotate the maze around a falling marble, avoiding traps and so forth. It was ported to SNES under the title 'On The Ball'. They made a new one for DS, Cameltry DS. Shocking name! That was over a year ago. It just this week got released in Europe with the new name Labyrinth. Yeah that makes sense. I ordered a copy the other day so I might eventually let you in on its mystery. Publisher UFO has picked it up for an American release, I dunno when it's due out though. ![]() Cannon Fodder War has never been so much fun! Codemasters is bringin' it back to PSP, new weapons, four player deathmatch, stuff. Actually there hasn't been a whole lot of information since it was announced last year but hey. IT'S COMIN'. ![]() Devilish A great Breakout clone on the Mega Drive / Genesis. It had you takin' down zombies and spider bosses. Had a bloody good soundtrack too. So they 'remade' it for DS by stacking slabes of horse shit on top of eachother and calling it a day. If you see the DS Devlish in a shop, back out slowly. If you happen to back yourself into another shop that's stocking it, then you're on your own mate. Been out for quite some time in Japan and Europe, getting a US release shortly. ![]() Dig Dug Namco include this on every single version of Namco Museum (and there's about ten thousand Namco Museum's by now) but it got a true sequel of sorts of the DS. Dig Dug Digging Strike, how completely clever and original of them to use D and S in the title. I have no idea if it's good or not. Reviews whinged about it having repetitive gameplay. Well duh, it's Dig Dug. ![]() Earthworm Jim Died a HORRIBLE death back in 1999 with the nightmare combo meal of Earthworm Jim 3D for N64 and Earthworm Jim Menace 2 The Galaxy on GBC. Shiny finally got the rights back to the game, and were going about a brand new one for PSP (though it wasn't actually being developed by them). Sadly it seems to have totally vanished. No idea if development is still going on or what. ![]() Ghosts 'N Goblins Capcom's 3D remake-ish Ultimate Ghosts 'N Goblins for PSP keeps the tradition of being as hard as stuffed bear testicles. ![]() Impossible Mission Has decided to come back and stay a while, stay... forever? System 3's doing a pretty great job remaking this C64 classic by the looks of things. For PSP, DS, PS2 and Wii. The original game will be included as well as the option to mix and match the original sprites with the new backgrounds. ![]() Lemmings A brilliant remake of the original for PSP (and PS2, but that was PAL only) plus a bunch of new levels and the ability to make your own and send them to others via the INTERNATIONAL INTERNET. PS2 version has even more levels, that were exclusive Eye-Toy things. Have to use your body as platforms to get the lemmings around. It's nice to feel needed. Lemmings 2 has popped up on retail lists for PSP too, so I guess that's coming one day! ![]() New Zealand Story / Kiwi Kraze New Zealand Story Revolution for DS is a sorrrtaaaaa remake with absolutely pointless and God awful touch screen controls thrown in. Trying to escape a room full of enemies? Too bad, you gotta open the door by rotating the handle over and over on the touch screen! But aside from these moments of horror, it's pretty good. There are some new bits and pieces here and there, with level changes and new items. So far it's only out in Europe (don't worry New Zealand has it too). ![]() Rainbow Islands Rainbow Islands Evolution on PSP and Revolution on DS. Revolution is awful, forced touch screen controls that make you juggle having to drag your character around the screen and furiously slash enemies at the same time. It just doesn't work, especially when you go to draw a rainbow over an enemy but you accidently drag your little dude up to his doom instead. IGNORE GAME. Evolution however, is okay! Eeeeey. For whatever reason Bub and Bob are wearing sombreros, shoot a limited amount of rainbows per level and have a beat box friend that can be called upon to kill shit on screen. But it uh, plays alright. ![]() ![]() Space Invaders I guess this doesn't really count, because Space Invaders gets dragged out of bed all the time for new versions. Like Space Invaders '95, that half arsed one for PSX and N64, Space Invaders Invasion Day and blah blah blah but I'll chuck them in here, beeecaaause. Again, another in the Evolution and Revolution series. Although the Japanese name for the PSP one was more fitting, Space Invaders GALAXY BEAT. It's the coolest version of the game in quite some time. Mixes the classic doot, doot, doot, doot with a rhythm game. If you shoot the invaders in time with the background music your blasts do extra damage and stuff. I don't recommend anyone play Revolution though. ANYONE. NO ONE. It's pretty much the worst thing humanity has ever done. ![]() ![]() California Games, Last Ninja and the almighty Boulder Dash are also getting brand new suits for PSP and DS. Then there's stuff like NiGHTS 2 for Wii, and even the Xbox Live Arcade is getting the attack of sexy long lost friends. Plenty of classics have made their way onto that already with graphical enhancements, with the likes of Double Dragon and Street Fighter coming with all new HDTV friendly sprites thrown in. Buuuut. Jetpac Rare's gone and revived their ancient ZX Speccy beast. Jetpac Refulled ahoy! ![]() ![]() Super Stardust Waait this one isn't for XBLA, this is for PlayStation 3's online store thing. Super Stardust HD is a remake of.. well, Super Stardust. An old Amiga game! ![]() So basically this is just a really long eyeball bleeding thread to cover up the generic 'what would you like to see brought back?' question that haunts video game forums. I mean now seems to be the time to wish upon a star, they're going crazy here! Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I'd like to see a remake of the Samurai Spirts RPG, but with more gorgeous 2D. It was only released in Japan so not many people got to experience it. I thought I wanted a remake of Twinkle Star Sprites but I guess I was wrong.
More recently, I want to see more Panzer Dragoon and Jet Set Radio, but I'm not sure how they would turn out since the key staff that created those games aren't at SEGA anymore. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Dear god that Cannon Fodder PSP game looks horrible. Like seriously, seriously bad awful horrible ;_;
Why couldn't they port it for DS? ![]() At least Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins was completely wonderful. Most of the "remakes" or enhanced ports turn out hideous. I've also gotten a chance to play Super Stardust HD at work and it's excellent fun. Housemarque have done a great job bringing their classic to HD and the music is terrific. I was supposed to mention some great old game I'd want brought back, but I'd probably just squeel BLAST CORPS so screw this. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
5.1 Dolby versions of "TIME TO GET MOVIN'" and that annoying siren sound blaring into your face would just make the whole thing perfect. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
The Incredible Machine. I think it's going to be released on Xbox Live sometime this year, but I'd like a new version with Armadillo Run! like physics and such stuff. That'd be cool.
I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
Thanks for the glimpse into Devilish. I saw this in the store yesterday and was considering buying it, had I not looked at it more thoroughly. I thought it would probably be another cash cow (aka. port/faux remake).
They need a modern day Bishi Bashi with 4p please. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
A few games off the top of my head I'd like to see new versions of:
Gargoyle's Quest: Ghost's & Goblins off-shoot that started out on Gameboy. The gameplay was pretty in-depth compared to previous Ghosts & Goblins titles. Guerilla War: This NES gem was constantly under-rated, but it is my favorite top-down shooter. I can only imagine a 3d remake, char-broiling everything in site with the flamethrower weapon while rescuing hostages all with hot 2-player action! MDK: I would love to see a new Earthworm Jim game, but MDK would probably be more viable commercially and I would welcome it just as much. (I still need to play through my new DC copy of MDK 2...) Might & Magic: There was no reason this series couldn't continue, really, unless the creator just got tired of the premise. But, it's one of the few RPG's that doesn't take itself too seriously to be humorous. If you thought Morrowind or Oblivion had large worlds, try worlds of that size but then add a dimension of time travel to them so that you actually visit several times the amount of real estate. There's too much to say about these games so I'll leave it at that. If they got the Oblivion graphical treatment there would be no holding them back... Tass Time in Tonetown: I've run across 2 people on the Internet that have heard of this game. It was awesome for its time, and the premise could work really well with "next-gen" processing power & graphics. It was basically a point & click game, but the premise was that you entered another dimension and had to "fit in" with the local populace. You had to wear certain clothes, eat certain foods, get you hair done like the locals... It would basically be a "real" stealth game in the sense that you would infiltrate a foreign land unnoticed even though you were out in plain sight... FELIPE NO

I'd love to see the Out of this World and its sequel Heart of the Alien remade, perhaps for XBLA. Beef up the story, up the graphics, and bring on the plump naked bathing gray alien chicks.
How ya doing, buddy? |
Needs more Sonic game remakes.
I hear they're remaking Shadow the Hedgehog because they wanna give him dual uzis. Look for it okay Infernal? :3 Jam it back in, in the dark.
Hey, maybe you should try that thing Chie was talking about.

I'd like to see a return of some of the old Bitmap Brothers games for the Amiga/Atari. Magic Pockets, Gods, The Chaos Engine (I think that was Bitmap Brothers) and stuff like that.
I know a few attempts have been made to redo Speedball 2 and they've generally all been utter shite so a decent remake of that would be most welcome. There's also a plethora of awesome games which were released for the Acorn RISC-OS family of computers which deserve a wider audience. Pretty much everything made by the 4th Dimension was pure gold. Chocks Away, Stunt Race 2000 and Pandora's Box in particular were incredible games. Also, the world badly needs a MMORG style version of Elite. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
Oh yeah, Speedball 2 is headed to XBLA. =)
![]() OKAY, I'M ON MY WAY. Also yes! Blastcorps! <3 This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Last Ninja remake!?
![]() No. My friend made it for fun. It looks pretty awesome though. I guess a Last Ninja remake or something is coming out anyway, but it probably won't look awesome like this. ![]() The Incredible Machine is coming out? On Xbox Live Arcade no less? A DS remake would make more sense, but either way that is like, super good news. I love that game. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
That looks great. =D
The actual remake.. ![]() That's apparently a screen from the PSP version. Pre-rendered everything ahoy! Most amazing jew boots |
Oregon Trail! With FPS buffalo action!
Actually, I'd love to play a 3D remake of Golden Axe, but I doubt that'll ever happen. Additional Spam: PS the only reason I read this thread is because of the AWESOME THREAD TITLE. I loved the cheesiness of that game. How ya doing, buddy? |
"I have to walk across this room to this door. Should be easy enough, just press up on the controller and the ninja should walk to the door." *Pressing up* (Last Ninja dude makes triple somersault into bottomless pit of doom) GAME OVER "the hell was that" FELIPE NO |
