Problems with .avi and WMP

I've had this problem creep up on me before I left my PC home after Spring Break and I thought it was just one bad batch of Anime that I downloaded. Something appears to be wrong when I try my .avi Files with Windows Media Player. Instead of the anime coming up, it's just one big green screen but I still get the sound of the anime. I've tried the files on my laptop and they work fine so it must be the settings itself. I don't know what to do So I'll provide all of the facts that I can.

DivX Coding
Most Recent WMP version
Azures Bittorrent (This may be linked due to the fact that the scheme for it is the same color as the Background [but then again the green is pretty common])
.avi Types of Files won't work properly
.wmv files work fine.

Please help me out. I'd like to use my PC to watch anime instead of the laptop.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

try to uninstall codec and install new codec pack,I recommend K-Lite Mega Codec.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I recommend CCCP over the K-Lite pack. Most codec packs install a lot of things you won't generally need, but CCCP is very lightweight, and installs only a few things. There's no need to install every separate video codec unless you plan to be doing your own encoding. Instead, ffdshow is a perfectly good playback-only solution for most video codecs, and far more efficient for most users.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Alternatively, you can try downloading VLC. It's got support for just about everything out there and you won't have to install a bunch of codecs on your computer.

VLC is fine for most things, but it is broken with soft-subbed anime.

Oh, I haven't downloaded anime in a few years, so I wasn't aware there was new stuff going on.

What's soft-subbed? You can turn them on/off (if so, neat)?

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Hmmmm.. I just re-installed the DIVx Pack that I had on my computer and I was able to play the needed files. So I guess it is fixed. Though I don't know how.
