Diablo II, hands down. It may not be the bast game out there currently, but it has given me more enjoyment than any other game ever. Best $60 I ever spent (including the expansion).

Unreal Tournament '99 & '04. I know it's not an MMO or an RPG but I don't have the patience to play thoes games therefore my favoruite PC games are the two above, but if I had to pick one I'd say UT2K4 because the community and the add-ons are endless.

If I did have to choose an RPG though, I'd say Morrowind, due to how huge the game is, PLUS the community add-ons.

The best pc game ever made is Strike Commander, especially the enhanced cd version. Never before or since has such an accurate simulation model been combined with such a gripping storyline. I only wish I could get the damn thing to work on Windows.

Close runners up are Ultima 7, UFO:Enemy Unknown and the original Quake.

Diablo 2 as well. So much addiction / fast speed of playing / item collection.

Starcraft was a very, very close 2nd.

shouldn't this be in PC gaming?

Anyways, my favourite is for darn sure Disciples II: Dark Prophecy. I don't think i've ever played a game that has hooked me more. Even with starcraft i would have to stop playing for a while after extended play, but with Disciples, i've been known to play for up to 5 hours at a time.

My favorite PC game of ALL TIME:

It had the first level editor I ever used, and was the simplest and most versatile ones I ever played with. Gameplay was simple, mostly platforming, But the levels you could create were limited by your imagination only. The original 100 levels could be made using the editor, which dosen't make them any more unique than a single custom level made by yourself. It's what got me appreciating level design for the first time. I must've made like 12,000 levels with this; some series, most standalone. It was fantastic.

Now the game is Freeware (YES!!!) but it won't work on my PC (slits wrists)

EDIT: Yes I copy 'n past'd this from another topic.

1.Age of Empires(the original) - first game I ever got for PC, and still play it to this day.

2.Deus Ex - This is the best game I have ever played, other than Age of Empires, and is probably the most indepth shooter ever designed, sadly the sequel, while not horrible, wasn't very good, and eventually led the franchise to bankruptcy, I can only wait for Deus Ex: Source, which is apparently in the works[just rumours, nothing confirmed].

3.Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight - I played the EVERLOVING CRAP out of this game back in the day, and it was just SO amazing at the time. I still play the offspring, such as Jedi Academy, which is fun but can't live up to the first game, which is unbelievable...

4.[TIE]Age of Empires 2/Starcraft - both these RTS games are amazing, and I was TOTALLY addicted to both at one time or another.

5.Counter-Strike: Source - for shear playability, this pick up and go shooter is maybe my most played game of all time, as I can just boot up and play online, and always find a good server with low ping on the map I want.

There's my top five...

EVER. What other game encourages you to drop bowling balls on cats so they go all demented and run off, setting off another ten bowling balls to fall on another ten cats? No other game! I would really like to see this series revived, but they'd probably turn it into a street racing game or something.

Filled with more choices and customizability than you can shake a stick at.
Also, it has a great story, great style, great action, great dialogue, great level design, and great music. The AI is a bit poor, but that can be forgiven in the face of all the positive qualities this game has. The bottom line is that this game is hella fun.

The only other thing that can compare is System Shock 2.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Sir, you have my respect, this game is the best shooter ever and never ceases to amaze me. I've beaten it MANY times, and have done countless semi-playthroughs.

I just have two questions, are you part of Planet Deus Ex Forums at all, and where can I find a copy of System Shock 2?

Actually the entire series is amazing. Good puzzle design, great music, memorable characters with excellent dialogue and the perfect blend of the occult and real history. None of Sierra's "sudden death" syndrome, too.

Of course, I have other favorite PC games EVER: Jagged Alliance 2, UFO (X-Com), Quest for Glory and Deus Ex are some of these.

Not a very old game but i just love it so much. One of the main pts I love is the dialogue, his descriptions etc are just so beautifully written, he really puts me into the story. The first game was great too but MP2 really took the cake.

shit............... man i'm starting to rethink my previous statement.

Problem is though, i never played Worms on the PC, i played it on 64. Man, good times though.

I guess i should mention Warcraft 2 Tides of Darkness/Byond the Dark Portal, cause i wasted alot of my child hood on that one. it would most certainly be right next to Mario RPG on my most played list. It introduced me to the wonderful world of RTS games.

Tie Fighter hands down for me is the all time best PC game. It is really dated these days in terms of graphics, but the gameplay and the story were top notch. And best of all it was Star Wars.

RTS genre would either be Warhammer Dawn of War. Best RTS ever as it is Warhammer 40k

Strategy genre is the Civilization series. Sid Meier is a genius.

FPS genre is a little tricky. For nostalgia sakes I have to give Doom and Doom 2 top billing. Sure the graphics suck now, and there was practically no story, but main the sleepless nights when that first came out.

Then there is the RPG genre of which there is only one true champion. The gold box D&D games take the cake here. Curse of the Azure Bonds, Champions of Krynn and all the rest kept me busy for a couple of years.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Damn, I just got System Shock 2, it is SO confusing, I gave up after a while, the whole psionics thing is crazy, there's like 40 of them, and all the chemicals, and inventory, and not knowing where to go in the labthing, and having all these weird hybrids attacking me, it's just weird. Also, there seems to be no structure really so far, everything is just chucked at you and it's REALLY CONFUSING, SOMEONE HELP!

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

It's really hard to choose my favorite PC Game.
I could say FFVII (just because it was ported to PC. but I won't because it's not fair to the others, so I'll say a few PC exclusive games)

1. Freelancer, what a good game, I played like crazy. I had for six months and never though I would like, but at the second I started playing it, I just couldn't stop it.

2. No One Lives Forever, this is basicly my favorite FPS, I'm just sad I haven't had time to play the second.

3. Unreal Tournament, when I read Slayer X favorite I just remembered how much fun I had playing this game. This is without doubt one of my favorite games.

i played psychonauts recently, and since the same guy was behind both psychonauts and grim fandango, i really want to try grim fandango out now.

anyway,

1. counter-strike - maybe not the best game or my favorite really, but i spend a lot of time playing it.
2. half-life 2 - 'nuff said
3. psychonauts
4. riven
5. ricochet

I second, errr.. I guess third now, that nomination. Love that game to death, I really do. Played it more than anything else in my PC or console life. I very much enjoyed how the last two patches also breathed some much needed life into a old game and got me hooked all over again. I do hope, if they make a third, it stays in the overhead perspective and does not morph into a MMO (as I won't be paying to play anything online, I'm afraid...).

Favorite PC game of all time, huh? Hmm...

Thief 2. Definately. Thief 3 is a joke in comparison to the brilliance that was its predecessor. Thief 2 was the most engrossing game ive ever played, slinking in the shadows, silently, nabbing loot, blackjacking the unsuspecting guards and placing their limp bodies in a closet as to not alert the others to his predicament. MAN the late nights id make playing that game...

Jam it back in, in the dark.
