Do you....?

When playing video games, during certain situations, do you tend to make small movements while playing? Ex. During tense situations do you make small movements with your arms to mimic your on screen avatar, or if a scary situation happens, do you flinch?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I shake my legs when I get hit with an axe in RE4. Then when I see a big hoard of them coming, I say NOMNOMNOM EATTIME. I don't know why.

I tend to flinch followed by some swear words when stuff pops out of nowhere in games.

For example the other day in Rainbow Six Vegas my buddies cleared this one room and then when I went around this one corner for the 100th time there was a guy croutched there looking right at me with a SPAS 12 shotgun as I came around the corner, scared the crap out of me, and then I died, lol.

If it's a music game I tend to tap my foot to the beat to keep time in Guitar Hero, Amplitude, Guitaroo Man, etc. Something I've developed from playing keyboard.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I generally don't do that, but of course there's always exceptions.

I actually jumped once during a multiplayer match in AvP 2. I usually always play an Alien, but I was a marine at that time. I was standing behind a building and turned around to see an alien leaping right at my head. Now that was freaky!

Also, whenever a character in a game suffers a huge deal of damage, I tend to flinch sometimes, as if I'm the one who got hurt, haha. When I'm playing/watching with my sister, we often go 'OOWWWWW' when that happens.

Ok look. I'm currently having a debate with someone on whether it is considered normal behavior to move while gaming,(check my thread in gaming section). I know it's normal for human's to do this because these are automatic human reactions that are triggered by the type of emotions we feel. The problem is, I need detailed proof, or this guy I'm arguing will still think I'm wrong.

So is there anyone here who could give me some detailed info?

Try getting an adult to play Loco Roco. They'll move left/right or tilt the PSP.

I haven't really noticed any twitching or movements when I'm playing games. I know if I sit on the floor in a certain position (partially cross legged) my left foot will fall asleep, and gets pins and needles (or whatever the phrase for it these days is).

I don't really move about while playing games, other than shifting my weight to a more comfortable position. Even with We Love Katamari, which I was just playing, I don't lean or shift my arms over when turning.

A lot of people when they first start gaming tend to turn or jump when they want their character to. I remember playing Super Mario Kart with my sister as a kid, and often times on sharp turns, she would turn herself backwards on accident.

When I play driving games, sometimes I involuntarily lean in the direction I'm steering, especially if I'm having a problem holding the road.

I sometimes move about when I'm playing games. When I play racing games I tend to lean forward slightly, I guess this is my way of trying to get more speed out of the car. Also, I sometimes find myself leaning slightly left and right when going round corners too, especially when the car isn't very good at handling them.

When I play on the Wii, I pretend my Wiimote actually registers movements I make with my arms.

I remember finishing off colossus 15 (that King Kong one) with my flatmate. We both jumped off our asses as soon as I nailed the final blow (stigmata style!) with barely any energy left to move any more.

As for small, repetitive movements, I don't think I have any, but when I'm going through rounds with my mate in Tekken, I always noticed he would make these weird expressions with his mouth as if he were chewing on a massive bubble or something; don't think he does it that often anymore lol!

Sometimes if i have to make a quick manoeuvre (doesn't matter which game) and i'm really freaking out, i'll tilt the controller, or lean in that direction and say some choice words to myself.

Not really related to video games, but in my high school driver's ed class, there was this girl who would tilt her entire body when trying to steer the car. Not the brightest girl, but man was it funny.

I find that in first person shooting games sometimes I find myself leaning across or over, as if I was in the game, only to realise time and time again of course it is not going to help get a view on things. Otherwise I tend to stay still, but if I am playing PES games and I get agitated then usually I become animated and show my middle finger to the TV whenever something is blatantly wrong.

I remember when we played the likes of Tekken 2 with our cousins, they were always moving, and ended up on one side of the room following their mindless hold right (or left) and repeat kick. Whenever my brother plays an action game his face is animated... it's hilarious.

I remember tilting my old, old GBA "as necessary" to courses when I played F-Zero games on it. I probably did it for some other racing games back then too.

As for the console, I may exaggerate a bit playing some rhythm games like Gitaroo Man or something. And other than Wii games (), I can't think of any other games where I physically react to in-game stuff like that.

I don't think I've ever moved like that in response to anything in a game. When I was in high school, I played a few fighting games with some friends and I remember how some of the guys, and the girls especially, tilted the controller whenever they were frustrated.

Sometimes I'll start tapping my left foot really quickly if I'm getting nervous during an RPG boss battle, but other than tensing up I don't usually do anything.

There are times when I get a bit carried away though. My most embarassing was in the college library last year while playing Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow. During my break between classes that semester I played my DS in the back corner, where I was mostly hidden but still visible to about three desks and a table. They were typically empty aside from the odd person back there studying.

I'd just finished exploring the underwater area with Homonculi enemies and such, and I was almost completely dead with about 15 HP remaining. I couldn't be hit even once, so I was extremely tensed and fighting every enemy with as much caution as possible. One hallway between me and a save point, and I broke out into a run, completely forgetting that the cieling in that room had falling traps. When the first trap fell I let out a loud "GAH!" and jumped. Though I'd dodged the spike trap, there was a guy sitting at one of those tables giving me the funniest stare ever.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

LOL when I'm driving in a game I move the controller around like a steering wheel, and I lean the way I'm turning.

I don't know if this counts, but when I get mad playing my SNES I whack the controller across my legs. I have no idea why. ;_;

Whenever I play GoldenEye or Perfect Dark against my friends, any time I'm killed, I would always jolt, because it usually surprised me.

It's difficult for me to get comfortable in my room while playing games. I usually shift every ten minutes or so, whether it be a swap from my bed to a chair or vice versa.

As for movements pertaining to video games, I would have to say I don't move that much. When playing a racing game, flight simulator (rare occurrence) I will of course tilt the controller (I'm talking about the PS2 controller here: no motion sensors). And when playing Silent Hill and Resident Evil, which I've only recently gotten into, I surprise myself by not jolting when something "pops" up. Okay, so maybe I do. Sometimes.

I do make small movements sometimes when playing schmups. Especially titles like Einhander or R-type Final that are especially intense. For some reason my body thinks that by leaning left/right the ship can find more room to maneuver within.

Yeah, when a game makes me mad I put the control down, stand up, and stomp the shit out of it. Does that count?

When I played GoldenEye I'd look around corners along with Bond. =O

I'm sure I twitched or screamed while playing the first Resident Evil game when it originally came out. Not a habitual thing though.
