Favorite piano albums
Outside of Final Fantasy, what are your favorite piano albums?
I don't know any tbh... Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I'd probably have to say that Arc the Lad Piano Album is by far my favorite piano album. The song choices were really well done and transition very nicely. So, I'd have to go with that.
Ys Piano Collection 1 and Ys Piano Collection 2, as well as Kanon / Air piano arrange album "Re-feel" are right up there too. How ya doing, buddy? |
I'll second the Arc The Lad piano album. It's much more complex than any of the Final Fantasy Piano Collections.
I would also recommend the Genso Suikoden Piano Collections and Wild Arms ~ feeling wind as they are both well done as well. However, not all of the songs are strictly piano. They usually have a 1-2 instruments as accompaniment. Even though, highly recommended. And thank you bishop743 for your suggestions; now I have to go find these albums! Most amazing jew boots

I'll third the Arc the Lad Piano Album. The original songs weren't anything impressive, but they really turned out well after the arrangement. And I'm generally not a huge fan of piano albums.
I also liked the Saga Frontier II Piano Pieces, although it is not exclusively piano and it might be more because I liked the original music a lot. EDIT: Dammit, when I posted I was second! Oh well, get the Arc the Lad Piano Album. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

Oh damn! I forgot about the Saga Frontier II Piano Pieces. Most of the pieces are around 2 minutes but some of the songs are nice to listen to . . Especially the arranged songs at the end, which were arranged for orchestra I think.
And it's always an added plus when the CD comes with the sheet music to all of the songs. Some of the songs were arranged for two pianos though so I was kinda disappointed when I tried to learn them. I was speaking idiomatically. |
OneUp Studios' Xenogears Light is a masterwork in the fan arrangement realm. It helps to know the original soundtrack, but a lot of the tracks are quite excellent and show the vast talent pool of remixers in the community.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
This isn't a separate piano album per say, but the second disc of the Sword of Mana Premium Soundtrack which is a piano sound version of some of the songs from the OST, is pretty good. Kenji Ito does a fine job. After that, I was looking forward to his Piano Works Collection, and ended up being disappointed. ![]() FELIPE NO |
I recommend the second Genso Suikoden Piano Collection highly. The first one is pretty average in my opinion (though it does make good background music), but the second one is great.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

The Tokimeki Memorial Piano Collections are rather good. I second the choice of SaGa Frontier II, even if that was more a set of theme and variations. Also worthy of mention is the Sailing to the World Piano Score, which is a subtle and poignant Masashi Hamauzu interpretation of a Yasunori Mitsuda soundtrack.

It seems as though there will be an Okami piano album coming out on the 30th. I'll definitely be looking out for this.

O_O Okami on piano? Awesome!!
Makes me glad to see that some more Okami music is coming out, and what more on the piano! I can't wait for this. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Dragon Quest Piano Fantasia. This is a powerful piano suite arrangement by Patrick Trickwaters, and I consider this as one of the most fantastic piano arrangement of video game music ever. I compare this piano suite to Ravel's Le Tombeau de Couperin.
