I made a new rip of The Blue Valley: http://www.sotw.info/music/nominatio...bluevalley.mp3. Can someone (preferably one of the people from last week who was able to hear a big difference between the tracker module and MP3) tell me if it's any better?
Most amazing jew boots |
Would you like me to replace the existing rip with your new one?
Incidentally, I can't get one of the streaming links to work, even though I've double and triple checked the link. Anyone who wants "Over the Frozen Sea" will have to get it the old-fashioned way. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
WHATTT??!!! What is this battle thingamabobber???!! I'm impatient for ny nom to be up already, lol.
Eh... ![]() (2 pts.) Tobe! Polystars & Total Vice - Over the Frozen Sea (2nd BGM) (2 pts.) Lethal Enforcers (Sega CD Red Book Audio) - Shoot into the Street (2 pts.) Sword Maniac - Mad Buffoon I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Wild Arms the Vth Vanguard Original Score Vol. 1 - Seeking the Blue Sky has grown on me since last week, when I gave it the top spot. Love the melody, love the instrumentation. It's missing the Ennio Morricone flavor of some of the earlier Wild Arms tracks, but who cares?
Ridge Racer 64 (Game Rip) - Cruise Control Snore. I still can't believe this dreadful, boring piece of trance techno took the gold that week. Suikoden - The Divine Oath - Dreams Come True Someday (Orchestra Version) As I said in its week, this reminds me of something from the Golden Age of Hollywood film scoring. Some of the standard orchestration problems of Japanese orchestral VGM are present, but not distractingly so. Sword Maniac - Mad Buffoon That beginning misdirect still gets me. When this track gets going, it really cooks, and the strong, infectious melody helps that a good deal. Tobe! Polystars & Total Vice - Over the Frozen Sea (2nd BGM) Your standard bouncyfun fluff, I suppose. Nice enough, but it lacks that certain oomph. Lethal Enforcers (Sega CD Red Book Audio) - Shoot into the Street And wound many innocent civillians. I like the synthy melody, and the entire track has that distinct 1980's cop show flavor. Let's Make a Pro Baseball Team! ~ORIGINAL SOUND TRACK~ - Forty Year Plan, are you finished? _DH_, nominating an SoTW winner? I think this may have been the first time ![]() Digimon Rumble Arena (Game Rip) - Wilderness I've noticed a real trend, both here and in the BCC, of 'Mon games having terrific music. I guess we ignore or dismiss them at our peril, eh? This is a terrific piece, with strong melody and so much more. Aside from Ridge Racer, I either voted for or like most of the winners this time around. Point allocation was a little tough, though, since several tracks are excellent. The Point Spread Wild Arms - 3 pts. Digimon - 2 pts. Sword Maniac - 1 pt. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]()

It's much easier to vote when you've heard all the tracks.
3 Points: Suikoden - The Divine Oath - Dreams Come True Someday (Orchestra Version) 1 Point: Sword Maniac - Mad Buffoon 1 Point: Let's Make a Pro Baseball Team! ~ORIGINAL SOUND TRACK~ - Forty Year Plan, are you finished? 1 Point: Wild Arms the Vth Vanguard Original Score Vol. 1 - Seeking the Blue Sky This is a great set of winners and the quality is quite balanced. Nothing is so singularly head and shoulders above the rest that I'll feel poorly for backing my own nomination, and then scattering the other three points amongst those that provided me the most smiles along the way. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
ntan1 is a rankmaniac |
This was the hardest decision to make ever, because except for Cruise Control, every track in my opinion is pretty well done and no track truly supersedes the others.
I was able to come down to four tracks that I liked the best. After that, I basically used a random number generator to assign two of them 2 points, and the other two 1 point each. There's really no correlation between me giving two points or one point for these songs. (2pt) Suikoden - The Divine Oath - Dreams Come True Someday (Orchestra Version) (2pt) Wild Arms the Vth Vanguard Original Score Vol. 1 - Seeking the Blue Sky (1pt) Lethal Enforcers (Sega CD Red Book Audio) - Shoot into the Street (1pt) Sword Maniac - Mad Buffoon By the way, Cruise Control was a pretty bad song in my opinion... FELIPE NO |
I missed a couple of these (more like 6/8), so this is the first time hearing a number of them.
Cruise Control - Yeah, I see why this gets the hate it does. How did it win? It has a couple segments of melody, but much of the track is just a muddy, atmospheric sound, with a decent beat. One of the weakest RR tracks I've heard, actually. Wilderness - Very nice. I've always liked these kind of festive songs and the sitar(?) combined with the flute on the melody is dynamite. Honestly, no complaints...Great track. Over the Frozen Sea - This about a step up from the Ridge Racer track in all aspects...Better melody, more interesting bassline, more vibrant synth...It's all a step up from the RR track. Unfortunately, that isn't saying a whole lot. I'm extremely surprised this won. Shoot Into the Street - Boy, whoever nominated this has balls...A super-repetitive rock tune is sure to draw negative attention for either being super-repetitive or rock in general. It had no business beating out the Phantasy Star Medley, but it's enjoyable if you cut it off after about 2 minutes. I wish it developed a tad more instead of the (many) loops...It's on the verge of greatness, but falls short. 40 Year Plan - As I listen to more music, this type of jazz-fusion just doesn't do as much for me as it used to. Just...Too smooth and causes a headache now instead of being relaxing. Good for what it is, but I'm not really interested in it. Mad Buffoon - Haha, YES! Quirkin turned up to 11. Funky bassline and great catchy melody. Very nice sequenced drums as well. Dreams Come True Someday - Not the type of Suikoden I'm normally used to and I'm not so sure that's a good thing. This track is actually kind of boring. Like the 40 Years track, it's good for what it is, but it's just "there". Seeking the Blue Fucking Sky - It's taken 88 weeks to score my first gold, now this sucker has a chance for two in a row. This was simply THE track that jumped out at me on the WA Vth Vanguard OST and I nominated it accordingly. Like the Digimon track, it's a really festive track, but the key is all in the melody. It can work in an RPG in a number of places, but it just has that instant catch to it. I suppose I should address one thing: I'm a noted bagpipe hater and this track has them in it. Truth is, I don't mind bagpipes when they're done right and not hogging center stage with loud, screechy notes (like most bagpipe-based tracks I've been asked to listen to)...Here, they're simply a nice background for the main flute and they provide nice harmonic support, which I have no problem with. I really didn't even associate the sound in this one with "traditional" bagpipe music. This is a far cry from that one annoying-as-all-fuck Arc the Lad song. Yep, let's do this democratically...Here are my crooked politician-esque votes: 3 point - Seeking the Blue Sky 1 point - Wilderness 1 point - Mad Buffoon 1 point - Shoot into the Street What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?
I'm taking over this town...
I'm screaming for vengenace... I'm shouting at the devil... I'm not dead and I'm not for sale... Ain't lookin' for nothin' but a good time... |
![]() I'll vote for the konami trio, but I might change it along the week (also want to give points to suikoden): 3 points ~ Tobe! Polystars - Over the Frozen Sea (2nd BGM) 1 point ~ Lethal Enforcers (Sega CD Red Book Audio) - Shoot into the Street 2 points ~ Let's Make a Pro Baseball Team! ~ORIGINAL SOUND TRACK~ - Forty Year Plan, are you finished? Jam it back in, in the dark.

Great collection of winners we have here. Three stand tall above the rest.
2 points - Let's Make a Pro Baseball Team! ~ORIGINAL SOUND TRACK~ - Forty Year Plan, are you finished? 2 points - Sword Maniac - Mad Buffoon 2 point - Suikoden - The Divine Oath - Dreams Come True Someday (Orchestra Version) Wonderful as well: Wild Arms the Vth Vanguard Original Score Vol. 1 - Seeking the Blue Sky Tobe! So, I wouldn't doubt that lightning can strike twice and it could happen to you too, Goldfish. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
Vote Change!
After further listen to Mad Buffoon, my inclinations have changed. http://www.gamingforce.com/forums/sh...038#post407038 How ya doing, buddy? |
Hey guys what's up. Got some awesome tunes here.
Ridge Racer 64 - Not bad for something that just melts into the background, good sound quality considering how crappy the N64's output was but it will take more than that to get any points. Suikoden - This song is way too predictable, I could tell where it was going the whole time. Around 3:37 it starts to sound like "Training Montage" from Rocky IV (evidence) then goes into full posemode at 4:33 and I can't help but be reminded of how much I'd rather be listening to that song. Sword Maniac - I loved this track to death when it came up a few weeks ago but my opinion of it quickly deteriorated. Tobe Polystars & Total Vice - This most definitely sounds like something out of Ape Escape 3. That's not a bad thing once you get get past its cutesy sound. Lethal Enforcers - It starts out with an awesome Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers intro then promptly dies. Let's Make a Pro Baseball Team - This is the clear winner folks. Please direct all your votes here. If anyone could tell me where I could get the rest of this album that would be kickass. Digimon Rumble Arena - It's kind of bland in some parts (especially the beginning) but it picks up later on. I could see someone arranging this into something amazing. I'll give it 1 point. 2 points Wild Arms the Vth Vanguard - Seeking the Blue Sky 2 points: Let's Make a Pro Baseball Team - Forty Year Plan, are you finished? 1 points: Tobe! Polystars & Total Vice - Over the Frozen Sea 1 point: Digimon Rumble Arena (Game Rip) - Wilderness Also I have a nomination, I think it'll do well. Would someone mind double-checking my work for me?
I've been trying to update the Voting Archive in the SoTW Wiki with data from Weeks 1-18, which are in the GFF backup database. When I was entering Week 2, I noticed that the numbers didn't seem to add up, and since that was back when people used a lot of different methods to allocate their points, it's concievable that there might have been confusion or a mistake. SoTW Week 02 Voting Table My math says that "Credits" should have tied "Dupon (Arrange)" and won by bonus point allocation, which would mean that "Credits," not "Chapter 1: Feena ~ First Step Towards Wars ~ Palace" should have taken third place that week. I have been known to screw math up from time to time, but I went back and re-checked every tally--so I need someone else to have a look. FELIPE NO ![]() |
But was the bonus point system in place so early in SotW's history? If not, then the results should remain as they are.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() |
If my math is right, both "Credits" and "Dupon (Arrange)" should have 14 points apiece in a tie, while "Chapter 1: Feena ~ First Step Towards Wars ~ Palace," the listed third-place winner, has 13. So no matter the bonus point system in place, 3rd place would go to "Credits" or "Dupon (Arrange)" rather than "Chapter 1: Feena ~ First Step Towards Wars ~ Palace," the listed winner. If my math is right. How ya doing, buddy? ![]() |
