The Classic series back in the 1990's is finally coming on DVD! This is one of my favourite childhood cartoon series, and I always hoped that it will return some day in some form, be it DVD, a new season, or a game. My first wish has been granted.

Support this series and buy the DVD! Might send Sega a message that THIS is how a good Sonic concept and story should be done. If this sells, there may even be a chance that this continuity can end up in the games or a new season/movie to continue where it left off!

And to Adventure of Sonic fans, buying this set may get the series on DVD too!

And if not, you can still own this collection and relive the memories of how awesome Sonic was. A time when Sonic wasn't starring in glitchy games, a time when Sally wasn't butchered in Archie Comics, a time when Sonic was way past cool.

Get it on March 27th! And spread the word!

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Ah, so many memories.
I was a nutzoid Sonic fan back when the Genesis was around, and even after, thanks to the comic book. I always liked the US comic version, and their concept of Dr. Robotnik.

I might find myself buying this, actually. I have some of the VHS, but...well...it's VHS.

Wow, it's been years since I saw this. I have to admit, i did like the concept of Robotnik. He was soo dark and evil. I liked it.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Eh, I was never really a fan of this show (I loved Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, though), so I doubt I'll get this. I might consider checking it out if it comes out cheap, or if my sister picks it up, just to see if my opinion on it has changed now.

Well, the show was cool in its concept, overall plot and voice acting. There are really episodes that were gems to me and some that were wastes of budget and time. But for me, this was what Sonic was about and what I grew up on.

Orin who did art I cropped in my sig made a rant on the on going wars between fandoms.

http://orin.deviantart.com/journal/11236926/?offset=80

Adventures was a more zany cartoon for kids, with whacky animation going on, which was fine for the kiddies like me before SATAM aired in Hong Kong.

Sonic X has its bad and downs (I watch the JP voices cause I don't even wanna see what 4 kids did to butcher it) and I find it enjoyable, and loved the darker direction the latest season has taken. The animation was top notch and everything, yet to me SATAM was what I really loved about Sonic.

The idea that they have been at war. fighting for their freedom for years since they were kids was powerful for me, and Sally is a much more stronger character than Amy in my opinion. (Cept Archie's incarnation)

I believe there is good and bad in all of the incarnations, however, I always felt that SATAM was the one that struck me as the most poweful and memorable.

And the games? Well argue all you want, and its ok if you like the story and human characters in it, but no matter what you say, nothing can defend a glitchy game that has a mediocre gameplay design. Its not an issue with Sonic, its an issue with Sega not knowing how to make good games anymore.

In the end, Sonic is still Sonic despite the multi fandoms, but if a glitchy game is getting attention, I say its fair trade to let the classics get their turn for a comeback. And who knows, people like the poster above can watch it again and see if they change their minds about it.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I only remember watching The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog series, I enjoyed that, although some of the voices of Robotnik's sidekicks were annoying if I remember right....Also remember watching a couple of episodes of Sonic Underground... (not as good as all the other series).
I'll certainly give this a look though, sounds pretty interesting that it has a slightly more serious freedom fighter group thing. Plus I just read on Wikipedia that it was announced if this sells well, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog will get a release too.

Sigh... I remember watching this show either before or after school. Was never really a fan but seeing how I'm probably more of a child now than then, I could see myself buying this, if for nothing more than nostalgia. Seems like Sonic is making a comeback with all the multi-console games that are coming out. I myself am waiting for Sonic and the Secret Rings to come out for my Wii. Growing up, I was probably the only one with a Genesis (all my friends were SNES freaks) so Sonic was my best bud for a while; however, Sonic Pinball made me want to rip my eyes out of my head. I'm a sore loser

Not released until March? Guess that gives me some time to think about wether or not get it. I was a die hard Sonic fan back when this first came out, though ironically this cartoon was aired the least on UK TV out of all of them.

This with 'Adventures of' may have made Sonic one of the few things of all time to have two new different cartoons on the air at once, but personally once the delusional fanboy love wore off, I just found all the Sonic cartoons except this one and some of Sonic X too awful to watch. While I'm on the subject of Sonic X, the guy who invented Chris should get an award that goes down in history for "single handly ruining a cartoon" so he/she never gets more cartoon work again... and was anyone still watching when they did "Sonic in spaaaaaace"? lolz...

I feel ashamed to have ever been a Sonic fan now with the whole furry culture that has become associated with it, but this was before all that so I guess I'll be tempted to at least take a look.

Are you aware of the fact you can still decide if you want something after it's been released?

I first watched adventures, which I was entertained mostly as a kid, but when the last episode aired, they immediatly started playing SATAM the next day, the pilot episode, and I was sold immediatly.

Then the real better animated episodes aired and I fell in love with it. I am grateful to whoever bought and aired SATAM in Hong Kong.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

One word.

FINALLY.

This is the best series when compared to the other four, IMO. The first series (AOSTH) was too-much intended for children, the third (Sonic Underground) just plain sucks. Sonic X is okay, but not memorable. So yeah, I'm really ecstatic for this release.

lol owned me there with the fanboy reference, I was just assumbing it might be a limited edition thing or something. You have a good point, with so much demand over the years from fans to have a collection made, they'll probably be no shortage of copies made that's for sure

I saw a few episodes years ago and liked the show. What was that episode with the walking up the steps joke. Something one of the girls said about step exercising. Later on, Sonic makes the joke when they were up up steps to some place: "Look on the bright side, all the steps you are taking now will get you somewhere." Something in that sense....

This makes me a very happy boy. Sonic SatAM was the first Sonic cartoon series I ever watched and it was something else. I mean, it didn't really stick much to the video games other than Sonic was fighting with Robotnik. Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog was closer to the Genesis games than the others. Sonic, Sally, Antoine, Rotor, Bunnie, Dulcy, Tails, Uncle Chuck, Robotnik, Snively...man I've missed these guys.

I'm definitely getting this (and Captain N in February) because this is the greatest stuff I could have ever grown up on. Hopefully they'll go on to do AoSTH, but I think this is what I've mostly been waiting for.

Preorder and save 25% too? You're too kind Amazon.

Fucking AWESOME.

They released ONE DVD about a year or two ago, and I've been really hoping they'd get their shit together and put out the whole series someday.

My prayers answered. =D

Wow I remember this show from way back when. Best Saturday morning cartoon series since the Real Ghostbusters for me. I've always been considering picking up the unofficial DVD auction that goes up on eBay every now and then, but with the extras that this set offers, I might just pick this up instead.

Man we've been YouTubing the SatAM series all year. I wish somebody had fucking told me in sixth grade that I'd end up in college, watching Sonic the Hedgehog - the good series, not the shitty one - and eating chili dogs. (!) Man, I would've skipped over the whole angst phase and saved myself some trouble.

God damn, that was a good show, though. I remember how Robotnik was kind of bumbling and stupid in the Adventures of... show, but in the SatAM, god damn, he was frightening. They even did a great job portraying getting robotocized as a fate more terrifying then death.

Fuck, I miss the days before kids' shows became bullshit.

Oh, this most definitely makes my year. I have cursed Power Rangers to kingdom come for their role in bumping off one of my favorite cartoons when I was younger. I most certainly hope the quality isn't too shoddy, but even if it isn't the greatest transfer, I shall grab this up on the first day.

I'll definitely be getting Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog to go along with the Sonic SatAM series this year. Add in Captain N and the soon to be released Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 later this year and Shout Factory is winning us over with all these old video game cartoons.

SatAM is probably one that I've been looking forward to the most though, because even after I torrented all the episodes, I still did not watch the last ones. Dunno why, but with this DVD release I'll probably watch it all the way this time.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
