I just got a PM report in my email (which I love, btw), and I was curiously drawn to the fact that in two places, both very conspicuously, it tells you not to reply to the email. Is there some dire consequence that results from sending an email, or is it just an attempt to avoid clogging the mail server with bouncing emails?
This would be where I'd also go "Wouldn't it be neat if we COULD reply via email?" but I'm sure Blah is about to explode from all the features people keep asking him to code.  Jam it back in, in the dark.  |

I guess the larger question that begs to be asked is: what would you say in the reply?

From a purely logicalstandpoint, it is inefficient for the mail server to worry about managing those replies; the messages are purely notifications, so there's really no need for users to reply to them.
I believe all of those messages are, by default, sent from administrator@somewebsite.com by vB. However, if sendmail is employed, the source e-mail address could be--I believe--fake, in which case replying would do nothing. You're not going to blow something up, but you're not going to accomplish anything either. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
