Where did I put my g*ddamn electric bill
...CD?
In my most likely futile search for it, I was wondering what y'all do when you lose something and you can't remember where you left it. I usually use the practice of retracing my steps since when where I knew where it was and work for there. If I remember something was in a room, I begin along the left wall (for luck; don't ask) and throughly search everything and anything moving in a right-esque direction. Any other quirky tricks out there you all use? Seriously, I KNOW it began the day in the lappy while I was preparing for work, then I took it out to put it in its case and did something with the case involving a shelf in my bedroom. BUT IT'S NOT IN MY BEDROOM ;___; Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I always check the last place you'd expect it to be first, because that's the advice usually given when you lose stuff! It's yet to ever work though, NOTHING is found down the toilet. Well sometimes.
How ya doing, buddy? |
I start to look in the most obscure and random places like the corner of my room "to see if it somehow rolled there". Although I usually sit still and think of all the possible places I could have lost it, then check them all after a thorough recollection. Unfortunately, when I genuinely lose stuff I have a very good idea of which inaccessible place the item(s) are in. When it's something minor, it takes me a long time to find them.
For instance, I thought I lost my ipod cable one day last year, then I woke up and remember that I brought it into the living room for the first time ever for some reason and forgot it on the floor, so I never thought to look there because I never ever thought I would place it there. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
...and I lost my dormitary key yesterday and I have no dupe as well. Nothing worse than that. ;_;
Actually I have anxious disorder and tends to check my stuff almost all the time because being paranoid that I may forget to put them in proper place. But man, it seems I have failed to prevent my stuff in order, retracing only helps when you slightly remember what you do when losing it (like putting the stuff in some place unconsciously, usually it takes time to remember) Oh well, I gotta find someone to break my door today... I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

I have family members who 'summon' Saint Anthony... apparently he's the patron saint of lost items (they have a saint for everything now, dont they?). The walk around saying 'Dear Saint Anthony, please come around. Something is lost, and cannot be found.'
I just keep looking in the most likely places. I employ everyone I can to help out. I dont really have a method to it... I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
I don't really lose anything too often since I try to make sure I put things back in a certain place that I know I'll pass by or look at. Otherwise if I do lose something, I just try to remember all the places I visited and hope the lost item is still there.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
I follow the old maxim of "it's always in the last place you look", because, well, why the hell would you keep looking after it's found?
If it's something I need for class I just say "oh fuck it" and wing it when I get there. However, say it's something I actually want, I'll think back to the last time I used/saw it and work from there. FELIPE NO |
I HATE LOSING THINGS.
God, nothing pisses me quite like having something in your hand at one point, putting it on a desk and be like - yeah I'll remember. One week later, AH FUCK IT! What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() - What we all do best - |
I always try to remember the last time I had used it, when it was when I last used it and what I was using it for. All depends on what it is. Generally, I think it somewhere opposite than I originally thought, which seems to happen to me often.
They say one the best things to do when putting something down is looking at where you put it. Usually helps you visually remember it in the future. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I don't tend to lose things all that often. When I do lose things though I have a quick look for them, and if I don't find it I leave it until later on. By that time, I have normally remembered where it is, and can go straight for it.
I never tend to worry too much if the item I want is missing in the long run, unless it is important, like bills and what not. My things tend to turn up eventually, and I can remember better when I'm not actually looking for what it is that I lost. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I can generally find my stuff somewhere in my apartment, but occasionally something will really just disappear. It takes a lot of cleaning up most of the time to find it, because that's the only thing that would keep me from knowing where it is. Clutter.
I try to retrace steps in my mind to remember where I had it last before I do anything else. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
I usually go through the same process of checking everywhere I can think of and then when I give up, it'll turn up a few days later somewhere really obvious.

I've gotten much better about losing things in the past few years, so I rarely have much of a problem anymore. Things I do still lose a lot though are papers or items that fall out of my pockets easily like pencils. Pocket items are almost always found buried underneath my car seats, but papers take awhile. I have a paper mound on my dining room table that absorbs everything except unpaid bills.
When I do lose something else though, I generally just look in the most likely areas. Typically I find things quickly, but others I'll just randomly stumble across it weeks later. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
I used to lose a lot of things back in elementary school and even in high school. Not so much anymore though. I have a pretty good memory of where I put things, even if it's in a clutter-boat; but I consider myself organized for the most part. If I do lose something, I can retrace my steps nicely.
The worst thing I lost "lately" was a little over a year ago when I lost my wallet. I didn't realize it for several hours, so that was a fun retrace. I eventually found in the space between the seat and door of my roommate's car after about an hour of trying to figure out where the hell it could've gone. Clutch. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Does forgetting where you've put things count?
If so, then I lose my keys on a daily basis--and I even have a basket for them by my front door. But, I usually stand in one room, and say what I did out loud. Kind of retracing my steps without actually doing so. How ya doing, buddy? |
Because I am a very organized person I rarely lose anything. Plus, my house is very small so there are only so many places where something could be.
Usually if I do lose something, I'll look in the most obvious places for a few minutes and then I'll just stop looking for it. It seems like I ususally find lost items when I'm not looking for them, so that's what I try to do. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I FOUND IT IN THE LAST PLACE I LOOKED
Like most of you, I retrace. But I don't really lose things. My main problem is I can be sitting in a desk taking something apart and then I lose something. I mean, I'm sitting there at a desk... How the fuck can I lose something? There aren't many places shit can go. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I usually find something in the first place I looked. Not the first time I looked there, mind you. Usually I will wonder where something is, look for it where it should be, and fail to find it. Then I will look everywhere else, and eventually get desparate and pissed off, only to find it exactly where I always thought it was, just strangely hidden behind a stray piece of paper or something.
There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
