Attention NHL 07 (PC) owners.

I have created rosters for the PC version of NHL 07 that are very unique, in that every player that is on an NHL roster (as of 1 February 2007) now belongs to the team they played their first NHL games for.

I made these rosters because the concept has always been a curiosity of mine; what would a team be like if everyone it had play their first game for them came back to them, despite trades and free agency. I've done this with NBA Live as a test (since it's easier to move around 15 players a team instead of 25+ with an NHL roster), and the results tend to be interesting. (Let's just say the Orlando Magic would be noticeably better for some reason. ) Now I've done it with NHL 07.

Just as an example, here are the ratings for each team and the number of players with an overall rating over 80 after everything is done:

88 - NJ (18)
87 - LA (16), OTT (14)
86 - NYI (11), PIT (15), SJ (18)
85 - BUF (13), CGY (10), CAR (9), CHI (12), COL (17), MTL (17)
84 - ANA (9), DAL (8), DET (11), EDM (13), NYR (11), PHX (9), STL (13), WSH (9)
83 - ATL (6), BOS (9), NSH (9), PHI (9), VAN (10)
82 - FLA (10), TOR (9)
81 - CBJ (6), MIN (6)
79 - TB (6)

Interesting to note the leap some teams take, both forward and backward. I don't have the original ratings with me, and it should be noted that these rosters are based on a user's rosters, but the Kings seem to benefit the most from this concept. Not surprising is that the most recent expansion teams (NSH, ATL, CBJ, MIN) are towards the back of the pack. Also, TB and OTT is a tale of two teams and their ability to draft talented players.

It should also be noted that I can't guarantee 100% accuracy, but I can almost guarantee it and proximity to team overall rating. Some of the crappier, younger players overwrote some players who were still hidden players in the NHL 07 rosters, like Mario Lemieux. (I figured out where players first played by what the editor I was using said. However, I'm quite clever enough to figure out that a player born in the 1980s isn't going to have a 15+ year career and seasons of 100s of points already.) The only things I feel I need to work on now are roster numbers and the All-Star teams.

If you're interested in either the roster update (which I expect will work, despite the program I used to make it saying they're for NHL 05 or 06) or to look at the rosters individually, let me know in this thread.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
