Europa Universalis 3
Is anybody playing this yet? I bought it the other day through Gamersgate and I just can't stop playing.
This is a huge improvement on Europa Universalis. If you've loved any of the Paradox games, you have to give three a try. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I cannot say I have played this, but I think of bunny_love when I hear the name. He always talked about how amazing the first one was, but I never got around to trying it.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Well this one's pretty ballin'. There's no greater joy than gradually forcing the Ottomans out of the Balkans as Hungary.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
I liked the second one, but lol at the system requirements for this. 1 GB RAM, 128 MB video card and 2 GHz processor for what basically looks like a 2D game? I can understand the RAM, but video card support for Pixelshader 2.0 or better, what the christ, the only other game that requires it is Oblivion, as far as I know.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? Nothing wrong with not being strong
Nothing says we need to beat what's wrong Nothing manmade remains made long That's a debt we can't back out of |
Well, I mean, you don't NEED to use advanced pixel shading, and to be honest I do enjoy the transition from 2D to 3D because they've kept the boardgame feel while applying smooth visual cues that are difficult at best to use in a 2D game.
The most graphically-intensive thing about the game is geographic mode, though. It's the only way to get an idea of what kind of terrain your armies may battle on in a province, and it's probably the worst part of the transition. Another issue I have is that there's no Production view that displays what kind of goods each province produces. I mean, you can check your own ledger and see all of the province data, but I'm talking about other provinces, so you don't have to go through the trouble of clicking on each individual one. It's still a great game, though. I was speaking idiomatically. |
Unfortunately, yes, I've played this. Fortunately, however, I've been able to control myself so far and not spend 25 hours a day playing, so I could actually do my assignments. From what I've seen so far though, Paradox really improved since the last of their game I played (that would be Doomsday). For one, the game worked out of the box.
The game itself is great too. I don't have time to write a whole essay, but I love the national ideas and the fact you can now hire explorers and conquistadors instead of having to wait for them to show up. "Deus Vult!" is fun. In EU2, there always was a point where I was just looking for a reason to beat the everliving crap out of some heathens, but just couldn't get a Casus Belli, and didn't want the stability hit. Neighbors aren't a problem, I'm bad at this whole diplomacy thing, so my reputation is always down the drain and my neighbors have a tendency to declare wars on me, solving the whole problem of "how do I declare war on them?". Well, that's how it was in EU2 anyway. My best EU2 game was in the Grand Campaign with France when I got rid of the English, pretty much miraculously, and managed to take Flanders (a CoT) and a few other provinces from a badly damaged Burgundy. At some point, a newly united Spain declared war on me and I also managed to beat them up, and take a shitload of their provinces. Then their government fell, and I reduced Spain to a couple of islands and their capitol. In your face, Louis XIV! Of course, my reputation was pretty much "We are hated throughout the entire world!" by then. Oh well. I think that by the end of that game all of Europe was mine, and my colonial empire was bigger than the British Empire at its height. Napoleon would have been proud. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
