Space Pirate Captain Herlock!

So a few months back, gosh longer than I can remember, I picked up the complete series of Space Pirate Captain Herlock. It's been buried in my pile of anime since then and today I finally decided to start watching it. Anyways, was wondering if anyone was a fan? It certainly looks interesting. From what I've seen in the first few episode, the animation looks pretty crisp and seems to emphasize each character's personality uniquely something I miss from the more realistic animes being put out today. I'm also really enjoying the musical score, something very important to me when watching any anime/movie. Browsing through amazon, I found out that Herlock is a long-running character in three series by Matsumoto Leiji. Can't wait to find the others! Any input?
