I'll get around to it, I swear!
It's inevitable, every now and then we have to put games on the back burner while we satisfy our longing for a new title. Some times games get left for years on end. I myself am the worst for this. I can't even keep track of all the games i have yet to finish that own. So here we talk about games we've put down, and will/won't/intend to pick up again in the later future. Maybe give a reason as to why you put them down, which games you're still working on, and which games are just flat out boring.
Some of my unifinished titles: -FFX2 (It's just never hooks me whenever i try to play it. One day i will beat it, i swear) -Clock Tower 3 (Hit another one of those retarded puzzles. I know what to do, but for some reason, the game won't let me do it. Too much of that = annoyingly boring) -Geist (Yeah, it really didn't catch me at all. Maybe one day when i'm super strapped for cash, i'll pull it out and rediscover a hidden greatness.) Dragon Quest VIII (Sorry, Grandia III takes precedence) -Grandia III (Sorry, Chrono Trigger takes precedence) -Final Fantasy VIII (I wanted to get all my characters to level 100 before beating the game, but in that process, i played Chrono Cross, and lent the game to a friend. That friend proceeded to totally wreck my disc 3, not allowing me to progress any further. I'm still pissed about this. What are my chances of ever finding it again?) -Legend of Dragoon (I actually don't remember why i stopped playing this one. I think it was a seguay into my dry spell. I didn't play any video games during grade 11 or 12, and i'm pretty sure Legend of Dragoon was my last attempt at a game before i entered quiet time.) So what are your titles? Jam it back in, in the dark. |
This has been happening to me with a lot of DS titles.
Baten Kaitos Origins - I'm actually playing this now, but before, I got it, played it once, and just let it sit for almost 2 months. Getting fairly interesting. DQ: Rocket Slime - Lots of other games to play. I'll eventually get back to it. MegaMan Battle Network 5 Double Team DS (wow that's a handful) - After getting into so many random battles, I'm just getting tired of it. I'm close to the end, so I'm probably gonna complete it soon. Valkyrie Profile - I just can't play this game. I have no fucking clue as to why, but I just can't. Probably because I just feel lost all of the time. will eventually get around to it, but probably with a guide, because I kept giving back Odin's stuff =( Children of Mana - Even though my brother also has a copy, the game still is boring as fuck. It's amusing to knock each other all over the place, but that's about it. Sorry, I just don't like it. A bunch of Yu-Gi-Oh! games - I usually only play the ones that are more like the actual cardgame, so I have a lot of them that just sit there, collecting dust. Especially Destiny Board Traveler, I only got that game because of the cards. What a waste. Soul Calibur II - Got it, and didn't like it at all. Played once and just quit. Not even thinking about getting good at this mash-fest. Battalion Wars - After playing AW for a while, I was really let down. Even though I got into the game knowing that it wasn't going to be anything like it. I just hope you can create units or something in BW2. And another problem is that I'm just running around without knowing what to do only to lose. Wild Arms 3/4/Alter Code F - Because I already got about 20-30 hours into WA4, I'm probably not gonna go back to WA:ACF for a while. But for some reason, I can't get back into a game when I take a short break from them (2-3 days). Have to pick these up again sometime. I'm sure I will because I love this series. <3 music. Oh yeah, Metroid Prime. I actually was going to beat MP before I got MP2 for my little bro, but then I just didn't complete it for some reason and christmas rolled around (last year, lol). Still haven't completed it. Same with Hunters. Boy, I really should play these before Corruption comes out. Probably more, but this seems to almost never end for me. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I have so many games like this as well, it's almost depressing thinking about it. Some titles that I know off the top of my head:
SMT: DDS 1 - This one has a very awesome storyline, but man the humongous dungeons just give me this "ugh, not another dungeon already!" feeling every time I try to progress in the game. Maybe I'll suck it up and finish it at some point so I can move on to the unopened copy of DDS 2 I still have on my shelf. SMT: Nocturne - I started playing this game, and then just didn't quite continue it....I'm not sure why as the gameplay was enjoyable enough. I need to go back to this one. Fatal Frame 3 - Got to the point where I play as Mikku against that boss that she sees torn apart on the torture wheel before fighting, and with the incredible handicap that Mikku has against a boss whose window of opportunity for damaging it must literally be less than 1 second long, made me put this down. Once again, it had an awesome story and I was enjoying the gameplay otherwise up to that point. Resident Evil 4 - Similar to Fatal Frame 3. Got to the part where I was fighting El Gigante x2, and lost to the second one. The game had already felt like it should've ended about 2 hours prior to that point, so I shelved it because fighting El Gigante alone = not fun. Fighting El Gigante x2 = extremely annoying. Hunter The Reckoning: Wayward - Got to the werewolf fight, and the appeal of fighting the same damn werewolf that I had barely killed in the first one again was too unappealing to me for me to continue. Suikoden IV - Such a snooooooore fest. I kept going and going hoping it would get better and pick up to the pace that it had started out with, but no such luck. This may be another one I force myself to finish only because it's a Suikoden game, and I've finished all the other Suikoden titles that have been released stateside besides this one, and Suikoden Tactics which I haven't started yet since I haven't completed this one. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() Thank you Guest for the kickass signature! |
Oh man. Some of the unfinished games I even returned. Let me remember.
Battlefield 2: Modern Combat - While a great singleplayer, I got bored of the fact that I need to meet the requirements under a specific time. That means no kills even when you're hogged by helicopters, foot soldiers and all of that for a higher rank and boy, there's a lot of ranks to go through before you hit the general. So I eventually got bored and returned it. The Suffering: Ties that Bind - I actually pre-ordered this and ended up not playing it. The reason being is that I haven't finished the first game (and still haven't. Read below) and was waiting for the opportune moment to play it. At that time, I was craving for another game and ended up not playing it at all. Also got picky on when to play it - midnight or wee hours of the morning which I ended up playing another game. The Suffering - Same reason as above - picky about the setting of the day when to play it and the motivation to finish it. I was near the end when I truly got bored of it and put the controller down. Now it sits collecting dust. Ghosthunter - Although a brilliant game, I never got into it. No time and had another craving. I ended up returning it as well. Gungrave: Overdose - I consider this game great however, it got mediocre at one point. Although I promised to pick this up again, no, I haven't. Sure, their special moves are awesome but that's not enough to impress me as well. Ended up dying repeatedly on that stage with a pillar and you get gunned down at all sides. Stopped. Tales of Legendia - Sure, I finished the main quest but it drags on to the character quests. I finished three of the main characters already but it's getting repetitive again and again and again. Before, I had the tolerance for it but I found better ones since then and just left it collecting dust. Just finished Norma's quest for this one. Grandia III - The final stage that had something to do with Alfina. Ahaha, oh boy this chick makes me laugh. Anyway, I found the battle system interesting but the story makes me sleep and the skill mastery just drags on forever. Twisted Metal: Black - Not even on the third stage. Guess I'm just bored with car fighting. Clive Barker's Undying - Like the Suffering and its sequel, I'm picky over the time for this one. Also the motivation to actually play it. F.E.A.R - Where was I? Oh yeah, the same damn building until another game interested me. What in the world. I'LL SWEAR I'LL FINISH IT. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War and Winter Assault - The story modes because I just play the skirmish ones for the fun out of it. Will get to it eventually. And so much more but I'm tired of typing. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
Almost every single game I have gets like this.
I'm playing through a game, and another one arrives. I think "Hey, I wonder what this is about. Maybe I should check it out for a trial." and start playing it. So I start playing through the newly arrived game, and another arrives. This doesn't stop. This is basically why I have so many unfinished games that i need to stick with. I have a hard time sticking to a single game, even RPGs, without getting bored or whatever. Usually if I'm stuck I'll put it away for months because I don't like using guides or anything. Doesn't make much sense but I'm becoming more of a collector these days. ![]() I was speaking idiomatically. |
Don't even start...
Final Fantasy III - Digimon DS first. Star Fox Command - Digimon DS... Grandia II - Never had the chance to beat it on the Dreamcast... I don't feel like hooking up my Dreamcast, so I bought it on the PS2. I'd love to but... Grandia III - After Grandia II Shadow Hearts - Give me motivation. Shadow Hearts: Covenants - Give me motivation to beat the first one. Shadow Hearts: From The New World - Get me out the university and give me a reason to play the first one again. Sid Meier's Pirates! - NBA 2K7 first... Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes - Give me a reason to hook up the GC. Baten Kaitos - Same as above... I can go on. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
I never got around to beating Doom 3. I'm practically at the end of the game though. I never got around to beating Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams. I don't remember what part I'm at.
FELIPE NO ![]() |
Parasite Eve: It's been almost five years. I remember defeating the final boss and then messing up the escape so I gamed over. The boss took me forever to beat and I never went back to it again.
Legend of Legaia: Got stuck and lost interest. I was also playing FFT at that time so I pretty much forgot about LoL. Legaia Duel Saga: Got stuck again and lent it to my friend. He lost my copy and when I replaced it, it just didn't appeal to me anymore. Clocktower 3: My brother sold it without my permission and since I haven't even thought about it in months, it doesn't look like I'll be buying it back. Haunting Ground: Simply got bored with it. Grandia II: The graphics and camera angle made me dizzy. FFVI: Too lazy to train to defeat a boss, but this is one game I'm definitely going back to in the near future. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Some more for me Siren (It requires so much patience, it's not even funny. Right now, i'm deffinetly not in a patient mindset. I'll have to go back to this game on a latter date) Disciples II: Rise of the Elves (For some reason i just stopped. I would go back to it today, but i suddenly fell to the alure of playing through Dark Prophecy again. So it'll be a while before i get to it. Starcraft Brood War (I think i'm on the last mission. For some reason i can't be bothered to go through another mission, and my objective was to get through the game with no cheats. Also, as far as i remember, a big turn off was getting rushed, and pretty efficiently killed right off on my first try. I'll go back to it someday, but knowing me, i'll want to start the whole game over again for the experience.) Final Fantasy V (This game is now officially on hold until i start my FF marathon. I'm not sure if i really want to come back to this one though. At the point i'm at, the game is becoming more of a chore than anything else. Also, i'm not a fan of this job system they have going here. I like it better when one character is assigned one class type. FFX2 did it tolerably though.) Advance Wars DS (I'm on the Volcano mission, you know, the one that's impossible? Yeah, i'm sure i'll pick it up one day, and level up the COs enough to finally put that game to rest) Mario 64 DS (I'm afeared that game was a bit of a novelty. Also, really didn't like how you could switch characters like that. Can't wait for Mario 64 on Wii VC though) More will probably come. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Continuing on...
Doom 3 - I swear. This game scares the hell out of me. Give me some other reason to play it. Dreamfall: The Longest Journey - I saw my friend play it. I've wanted to play it. I just can't get into that motion of switching the disc. NBA 2K7 is too much fun. Indigo Prophecy - A game unintentionally interrupted. Let a friend borrow it, and then HE let a friend borrow it. Now i'm just waiting for it back. Megaman ZX - IT'S TOO DAMN HARD. Advanced Wars 1 and 2 - The game is great. It's just too hard. T_T Tales of Legendia - A friend is forcing me to play this. I just can't get the motivation to play it. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
T_T
I have a tough time with Megaman games. I always have and always will. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
You don't want me to list my backlog. If I did, I would be sitting here all night typing out game titles, and these are retail purchased releases too. I probably have enough games to last me a couple of years if I stopped buying them lol.
My entire purpose of stocking up was to await price drops on next-gen systems, but I ended up buying a Wii ahead of time. I won't be buying a PS3 or 360 literally at all until that backlog falls though. I was speaking idiomatically. |
I have way too many games that I've never gotten around to playing. It's really getting ridiculous, I don't even know why I buy games anymore when I have literally dozens I still haven't hardly played, let alone beaten. Some notables that are currently in my "play next" stack are:
Silent Hill 3: Just got through the subway, and I can't figure out why I'm not interested in it anymore. I want to finish it, but I just...haven't felt like going back. Of course I want to beat that before I go on to... Silent Hill 4: bought it a few weeks ago, holding off on playing it until I beat a few of my other in-progress games, including SH3. Katamari Damacy: was fun for a few levels, but I haven't touched it again in several months. Onimusha 3: I really want to play this game to finish the trilogy (of the original story arc, anyway), since I've beaten the other two a long time ago, but again I seem to be putting it off in favor of beating other games. Resident Evil Outbreak File 2: I got to the last boss on the first game and died, and it got quite annoying, so now I'm going to see if I can play though this one with a friend that recently got it. Front Mission 4: loved the Front Mission 3 demo when I played it...5 years ago? Wanted to play this game since it looked OK, but it still sits there...sealed... Megaman X7/8: bought these a while ago, I hear 7 isn't all that good but I want to beat it before 8. I also have X5 somewhere, have to play through that too. And now I want to get Maverick Hunter X when I get a PSP. Bah, so many games to go through by Capcom... Full Spectrum Warrior: haven't even touched it. Looks interesting. Should try it one of these days... GTA Vice City/San Andreas: bought both of these a while ago...still untouched. Did beat GTA3 on the PC, but for some reason I can't get into the series again. How ya doing, buddy? |
I don't have very many titles that I don't complete. The current one that I've had to delay for a few weeks now is Final Fantasy XII due to school and other priorities.
The only other game I own that I haven't picked up in years is Shadow of Destiny for the PS2. The story seemed interesting at first, but I gradually stopped playing after other RPGs at the time came out. I may go back and finish it over break though. FELIPE NO ![]() |
I'll just list the games I've started but haven't got around to finishing yet over the last few years as there are hundreds of games I have but haven't even started yet. :/
Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII ~ I got through the first few levels, but then work started to get busy and I lost interest. I'll get back into it I think after Final Fantasy XII, which I'm actually motivated with now. Final Fantasy VII ~ I did complete this game over 6 years ago, but then my save file got corrupted. I got through Disc One again, but never continued. Contact ~ I started it, but now it's on the backburner as other DS games came out. It's getting close to being back on top of the stack as I'm playing through Final Fantasy III at the moment. We <3 Katamari ~ I just forgot about it. I think I'm almost through with everything though. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty ~ I've actually never finished the game, though I've played through a lot of it several times. I definitely have to sit through it again and complete it before moving onto Snake Eater. Super Mario 64 DS ~ Ah... my first DS game, and it's usually always on the bottom of the stack of games to play. I never completed the N64 version, but this game's been on and off for me. I kinda go to it whenever I don't feel like any of the other DS games I have, which has been a rare feeling lately. Cooking Mama ~ I just want to gold everything, so I'm not done yet. Final Fantasy X-2 ~ I actually did beat this and started going through it again to 100% it with a guide. I'm at about 30% I think. DragonQuest VII ~ OMG I think I clocked in over 60 hours on this game and I'm not even halfway through disc one. I haven't touched this game for years... .hack the third one ~ Somewhere along the way I lost interest between school and stuff. I wanna get back into. I did get GU in October, but that's still in the plastic. I still have to get through part 4 too. ![]() WarioWare, Inc. (first one on GBA) ~ I did it all on a ROM, but I got the cart recently and wanna complete it all there. LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy ~ It's not 100% yet. Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 ~ Same thing as WarioWare: I completed the ROM, but got the cart recently and wanna finish that. Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 ~ I had never played it before, so this GBA version is getting a lot of playtime from me. It's basically between this and FFIII on my DS. I'm about 60% of the way through. Then I can start Yoshi's Island DS! Final Fantasy XII ~ It's playing itself right now! Final Fantasy III ~ I play it a lot during my commute! All my Wii games are getting even playing time, except Legend of Zelda: Twiligh Princess, which I haven't started yet: Excite Truck ~ S-ing everything suddenly got easier for me. ![]() Trauma Center: Second Opinion ~ I don't mind the rerun. It's just not as intense as the DS version. Super Monkey Ball ~ <3 Elebits ~ Just got it. Now I love it. Red Steel ~ I'm deep into it. That's all I can remember for now. ![]() What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I'm starting to regret starting this thread.
I'm being reminded of all kinds of games i want to play, but can't, if you've seen the exstensive list of games i still have to finish. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Final Fantasy XII - I just don't like it much. I want to finish it but I honestly don't care about the characters or their world. They could all die and I wouldn't really care, and I usually want happy endings.
Left alone since early november 2006 Star Ocean 3 - I was waiting for so long to play this game but when i finally got around to it I was so exited. That is when the story went to a ridiculous turn for the worst. I really want to finish it mainly because I love the battle system. Left alone for more than 6 months Viewtiful joe - I love the game and the art style. But I got stuck in this one place since it was so hard. I know I can beat it but I'm a guy that hates to be frustrated by a game. Damn you Sonic Heroes ><! Left alone for almost a year. Resident evil 4 - I actually rented this for the GC. Damn it was the best RE game I've played since code veronica. I really wanted to finish it but I had to return it to avoid late fee's. I planned on getting it but I never bothered. I'm just going to wait for the pc version and hope that they improved on it. Left alone for more than 6 months. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() New Record! |
FFX - Couldn't be fucked after getting up some mountain. It felt pretty close towards the end but I was so underleveled from breezing through it and using aeons to kill bosses with their break limit, I didn't feel like grinding my way through.
ICO - I don't like looking up guides for games. Metroid Prime - I didn't really dig the controls, but I loved the scenery and still do. I'll probably come back to this next year. F-Zero GX - It's hard, I love it, but I dunno. Haven't really gotten into it since picking it up earlier this year. Wind Waker - Same as F-Zero GX. Same applies to most games. Pick it up. Try it out. Play it awhile. Try out another game. Forget about previous game. Repeat. It's just a bad habit I guess, but some games lack incentive to keep you in the game, or don't have enough content to keep you going. Katamari is a good example of a game which would definitely be better with more content. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
To those who haven't finished Onimusha 3, MGS 2, Metroid Prime and Yoshi's Island yet, please make those your priorties come the new year. Take the last one at a relaxed pace though; its grows on you more that way.
Putting FF12 on hold isn't a big deal... I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I've actually caught up quite a bit lately. Finally beat FFT and FFV a year ago, beat Baten Kaitos last month, and finally beat Metroid Prime 2 earlier in the year.
Viewtiful Joe - I can't believe I can't find time to finish a short action game. My girlfriend got it for me, and I told her I beat it though so she stopped asking me why I wasn't playing it around her. >_> Dragon Warrior 2-4 (emulators), 7-8 (actual copies) - Yeah, these will all take a long time, so I keep putting them all off. One day I'll get around to one of them. Mega Man Legends - One day, I swear. Shining Force 2 - I got through the first, but never actually went and started the second. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
I am completely hopeless in this regard. I didn't have this problem before, but when I was out of work for a time I started a habit of slowing down on games and letting them breathe because, I would tell myself, "you must savor this as it'll be a good while with steady pay before you can pick up the one after this." Of course, now I have steady pay, and a titanic backlog. My resolution for 2006 was to finish 12 games this year, and I'm still 2 games short. The most likely candidates to round out that list (going back no earlier than Dreamcast):
Border Down (suck at it) Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter (can't seem to squeeze a good time out of this one, but I'll try again soon, as it seems to be the last BoF Capcom will ever make...) Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (fun game, but I'm a bit CV-ed out, as 2 of the games I took out for this year were Harmony and Aria in rapid succession) Dragon Quest VIII (finished the Waterfall Cave...somewhat engaging, but put off 'til I finish at least one other RPG) Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem (trouble with those hulking creatures drains the fun) Final Fantasy X-2 (going through with guide to give my sister 100% on the first runthough; about as fun as it sounds) God of War (in the moving temple in the desert, bored silly) Grandia 2 (found it's a lot less fun once Ryudo loses the cip on his shoulder) Halo (borrowed from a friend; not really good at it, not engaged enough to force it) Jak & Daxter (stopped near the end to let it breathe, loaded it up recently and can't play it to save my life...a pity since I bought the sequels on the cheap this year) Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil (right at the last boss, but I absolutely refuse to finish it until I get 150 gems on the second funhouse) Megaman X: Command Mission (stalled at Chapter 9 due to soul-crushing ennui) Megaman ZX (LOVE this one, but going slow until I can get copies of Zero 3 and 4 for past boss lovin') Metroid Prime (just got the X-Ray Visor and just plain got bored of retracing the entire map for odds and ends...it's almost as bad as Wind Waker's Triforce hunt) Neo Contra (that timed 30-second boss at the end of Stage 6 is as cheap as anything else in the universe) Ninja Gaiden Black (Level 7 is miserable) Okami (actively playing, but only past the second boss) Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (I play this slowly for some reason) R-Type Final (I just can't handle the distorted-space stage) Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando (not as fun as the first, but only early on...soon maybe, but not now) Silent Hill 3 (ran out of patience after the first boss) Super Mario Sunshine (got all the seek-out-and-grab-'em Shines, but there's an obscene amount of Blue Coins left to get and even equipped with a tell-all FAQ on my lap, I can't be bothered) Super Princess Peach (fun when I'm playing it, but I'm always putting it off for something else, which is unfair) Wild Arms 3 (kinda like J&D...stopped near the end to let it breathe, loaded it up recently and can't remember what the dammity hell I was doing) Xenosaga (out of containment and finding it impossible to force myself forward anymore) And the ones I haven't yet started: Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance (my sister's brother-in-law found this abandoned at the school where he works, gave it to them; they had it already, gave this to me. Maybe in a lull) Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex (tried it briefly on Christmas Day - it plays well, but you can quite literally make and eat a sandwich in the time it takes to load a stage...maybe when I'm done with Ratchet) Dark Cloud (just trying to finish other games first) Jak 2 & 3 (first game's in the lurch) Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (ditto) Phantom Brave (wanna wait'll I have Disgaea and La Pucelle first) Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal (working on Commando) 33 games, and only from recent generations...sigh. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? DAMN good coffee!

Waaaaaaaaay too many to list, but here's a quick selection:
Final Fantasy VII: Install, play for a week, forget about it, start over again 2 months later. I'm forcing myself to finish the game first before watching FF7 Advent Children due to my spoiler paranoia, but from the looks of things I'll be busy with this till Doomsday. Resident Evil series: Play with the other characters and get the alternate endings for 1 & 2, play 3 & 4. EVERY SINGLE ZELDA GAME EVER: I did finish Link's Awakening about a month back... right now I'm struggling through LttP and OoT. And Twilight Princess is gonna be consuming my free time in a few weeks as well (hopefully). FELIPE NO ![]() Anime lover, gamer, and dreamer |
