Diddy Kong Racing DS (OMG!!!)
So far, there's only one screenshot up on the Ninendo.co.jp website:
![]() There is, however, an awesome looking video: http://movie.nintendo.co.jp/data/wmv/ds/diddyracing.wmv I see the following characters from the original in the video: Diddy Tiptup (turtle) Pipsy (mouse) Timber (tiger) Krunch (kremling) Missing from the video are: Drumstick T.T. Conker Banjo Bumper (badger) There was, however, Tiny Kong (or at least, it looked like Tiny) from DK 64. Her car was white, a similar color to Conker. It's entirely possible that they had to remove Conker from the game due to Rare leaving. They will probably replace Banjo as well, but it's unknown who will replace him. IGN lists the publisher as "Nintendo", but that is entirely unconfirmed as far as I know. I am so fucking pumped about this game, guys. I played DKR obsessively back in the day. Hell, my freakin' email address is a reference to it (TIMBER FANS HOLLA BACK). The DS just won the console wars, IMHO. Fuck the Wii, fuck the PS3, fuck the 360. DS is where it's at. Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
I plan on getting the game too.
I just hope that the controls aren't too bad with the lack of a joypad. The game was kinda hard though. I don't think I ever beat the Last Secret boss. I'll acheive that glory once I get this game. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
So... odd... Nintendo's handling all aspects of the port or something?
Needless to say, it was my first true addiction of a game. Level design makes Mario Kart look like a one inch ruler that only measures by inches. The only thing I don't like is the trick to getting good times, which involved rapidly buttonmashing the accelerator and stuff, hurt my thumb back then. EDIT: Of all the characters, Timber is the one I actually keep forgetting ![]() This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
Let's see, from the video I can pick out, Ancient Lake, Greenwood Village, Snowball Valley, and Jungle Falls. I still have my copy of DKR for the N64, which I played and beat. It was an awesome game, and this one looks awesome as well. They should keep all of the old tracks in this game.
Like: Hot Top Volcano Whale Bay Crescent Island Star City Darkmoon Caverns Spaceport Alpha Haunted Woods Windmill Plains At least those. I'm really psyched about this game. Also, good to hear the original DKR theme. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
I might get this, but mostly so I can play Greenwood Village over and over and over. That is seriously one of the best tracks I've ever seen in a racer. Other than that, I got kinda sick of the game, but I still bust DKR out for some Greenwood Village lovin' from time to time.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
HELL YES!
DK Racing was the shit back in the N64 days ![]() FELIPE NO |
I never played Diddy Kong Racing.
I WILL have this. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() |
Yeah Conker and Banjo will be gone from this game for obvious reasons. Just like the original game this game came out of freaking nowhere.
How ya doing, buddy? |
I seriously doubt that it wouldn't have Wi-Fi capabilities. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
Anyway, Darkmoon Caverns > Greenwood Village. And this isn't even taking into account the loops at the end or the music. It was a fantastic stage in it's own right. Loved it's systematic design, the organization almost seems like it came from DKC. Anyway, I saw the video. Gameplay looks a bit different, but that's okay, the Level Design is where DKR shines. Particularly the boost looked different. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
I doubt this is a straight port, guys. They're probably going to be re-using some of the tracks and such, but I highly doubt that they won't add anything new.
I can't wait to play this game. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
I agree, Darkmoon Caverns is one of my favorite tracks. The track itself looks like the land itself was bridged together to form it. I also thought driving through and being shot at by Wizpig's spaceships was pretty cool. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
I'm betting that they'll keep Conker and Banjo in the game considering that Rare is doing the port.

FELIPE NO ![]() |
Conker will obviously be the same little kid he was before.
I loved the music in this game, but I see no reason to get it if it's just a port. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
{QUOTE=IGN]A few tantalising DKR DS info-bites to keep you going: eight-player single-card and multi-card WiFi play, touch-screen and microphone compatibility, some familiar faces in newly playable form, remodelled and retextured tracks, customisable vehicles, new modes, weapons and challenges, a little something called TT's Wish Races where you can create your very own tracks... and it doesn't end there[/QUOTE]
Hmmm. A track creator, I wonder how creative they'll let you get with that. Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
"I'm Conker!" "Out of the way mother F%#*@#!" I wonder how much customization they'll allow for in the custom vehicles. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Rare's deal with Microsoft is a total farce.
Handhelds are already getting to be as powerful as home consoles, so it's just a matter of time until we see Perfect Dark, Banjo Kazooie and even Conker back on Nintendo again. Shit, maybe even Jet Force Gemini, Killer Instinct and Blast Corps. Diddy Kong Racing is just the start. And I'm totally looking forward to it =D The music was totally fucking catchy christmas awesome XD My fave track was Walrus Cove, mainly because of the music hahaha. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Will this be playable without the joystick?
How ya doing, buddy? |
Mario Kart DS seemed fine without analog. I'm sure this game would be fine too.
Even though Rare is working on this I still don't expect to see Banjo or Conker. It would be nice though. I was speaking idiomatically. |
I bought this game shortly after its release for the N64 and it really was an experience (mainly because it could get infuriatingly hard).
Spoiler:
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? Return to Crystal Lake... ![]() My Wii Friend Code 1942-4227-2974-0276

Yeah, I played that cooperatively with a friend because it was so fucking hard. He was better at the game than I was so I'd just sit back at a good area with rocket power ups, turn myself around, and shoot the other racers so he could actually win and get the coins and stuff. We found it to be impossible any other way. I really fucking hope Rare tones that game's difficulty down because it was ridiculous. We shouldn't have had to resort to that tactic.

Yeah, those races against Wizpig were insane in the original. If you missed a single boost (had to brake before hand to get the green one) you had you stop and restart. I can still here the "Get Ready *chime!" with the thunderbolts going off in the background over and over again in my head. How ya doing, buddy? |
QUOTED FOR TRUTH. I found the second race against Wizpig in space a little easier. Probably because I was using TT. Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
