Rwanda? France?

Some of you probably know that France has recently decided to put Kagame on trial for the murder of Habyarimana. For those of you who don't, check out some of these links:

Do you think Kagame should be tried? Any comments and stances on this issue?

Personally I'm tempted to put more trust into a government that didn't directly commit genocide. Their's clearly evidence that Kagame was responsible for killing Habyarimana, and the defendants of genocide victims are pushing for this trial to happen.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Disclaimer: I am not very familiar with this--but I will posit an opinion.

There are two relevant questions: is Kagame guilty and what are the political consequences. Let's assume he's guilty of the first. I would say they should avoid this. Stability is something that would be lovely in Rwanda and I fear that such moves could hurt that. We don't want Rwanda cutting connections with France which could affect AU-EU relations or whatnot.

I also see a problem with linking it too closely to the genocide. Did the crash cause it? Possibly, but that wasn't particularly the goal. What needs to happen is a policy that promotes stability. Does Kagame provide that? I don't know the region well enough. But, if he does I would prefer security with pressure to reform and make the country better over attempts to "do what's right" and catch a criminal. We don't want another genocide, or another Congo Civil War, or... well, we don't really want any of African history post-European involvement.

Rwanda has more serious problems to deal with than this and France should understand that. War criminals are fine if they are enacting good policy. If Kagame is doing that then leave him alone.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

They should leave him alone and allow the country to heal further before they even consider trying to bring him to justice. From those reports it looks like the French had a sinister part to play in the whole civil war, and I question their motives in pursuing him.

The Rwandans are a bunch of degenerates, i come from burundi/tanzania and i have to say i'm not a big fan of rwandans. They complain alot about the genocide, something bad happened, so what, life goes on.

I was speaking idiomatically.
