Your Christmas Tree

This thread is about your tree in particular.

Do you have a tree up? Is it real (what kind)? Is it standard green or is it white? And how in particular is it decorated? Does it have all sorts of colorful lights, silvery stuff, what kind of ornaments?

I don't have one, but the house I live at now does so I guess I do. It's fake, but the decorations are nice. Not tacky at all. I took a nap in the livingroom today with all the lights out since I'm alone here for the weekend but with the tree lights on and it made me feel a little better about life.

All the lights are white and it has these nice golden ornaments with a handmade wooden angel holding a star up top. Green, white and gold go nice together.

Edit - I do believe that's the first time in my history here using that smile.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

My mom put a tree up the Sunday after Thanksgiving. It's a fake one, decorated with mainly silver ornaments, and white lights. It's pretty neat looking.

The tree isn't up yet, but it's a fake green one. We bought a real tree every year until the year before last. I really miss that fresh tree smell. We decorate it with multi-color lights that play music, gold garland, and a variety of ornaments that we have received as gifts over the years and my handmade ornaments from grade school. An angel dressed in white sat on top of the tree for years, but she gave out on us right before we took the tree down last year, so this year we're using my dead grandmother's tree angel. Our tree looks very eclectic with all of the mismatched ornaments, but somehow it works.

Don't have room for a tree in my horrendously small and crowded apartment, but back home we always have a live tree. Have ever since I can remember. Nowadays we've got a bigger place and too many ornaments (my mom taught preschool for a number of years, and ornaments are a favorite gift for preschool teachers around Christmastime), so we have one fake tree and one real tree. Fake one is green, we usually do one with colored lights and one with white; one decorated with style and one decorated by my little brothers.

My family always has, and I always will go au natural for Xmas trees. I don't like the thought of a fake one. Sorry, but the real ones smell damn wonderful =d But hell, I'm an outdoorsy kinda guy.

How ya doing, buddy?

It's fake and it's small.

Up until about three years ago, my mother put up a decent sized fake tree every year, but she decided it was too much hassle with all of our cats. We never put presents under the tree, anyway.

It was disappointing to me stopping the whole tree tradition because I enjoyed putting up the ornaments. For Christmas presents, my father and I often picked out cute ornaments for my mother to put on the tree. He still gets her one every year even though we no longer really use them.

I do wish we had a tree, but I'll take what I can get. And right now, that's a fake tree a little over a foot tall. I put a few tiny ornaments on it for fun.

How ya doing, buddy?

We just put up a real tree over the weekend. We've only used a fake tree once, and that was because our livingroom/diningroom/kitchen were all being renovated at the time.

This year we picked out a Fraisure, since the branches seem a bit stronger than the Bolsoms we've got in the past. One side is flat and bare, but it's hidden against the wall. Otherwise it looks very nice, and we have it decorated in a mix of ornaments - some handmade, some random object type oranaments, and some of the standard christmas balls you'd buy in the store. Oh, and lots of lights, both color and white. We always have a bright tree.

I'm not going to vote yet since we don't have a tree up yet we do have a fake, green Christmas tree in the attic. We didn't put it up last year, which is why I'm refaining from voting at the moment, but we'll see what happens when I go home for the holidays.

My tree is 7ft tall, green and fake. It has to be fake because my dad has asthma and is allergic to dust and plants We decorate it with either multi-coloured lights or white ones this year I'm not involved in the tree decorating process as it is all being done while I'm stuck at uni.
However our tree is always nicely decorated. We put one colour tinsel round it, and lots of lovely, classical ornaments. Also if me and my dad have been good all year sometimes we get to put chocolate on the tree. Only sometimes though. We also put strands of glitter on the tree because with it being so big it never seems to be fully covered, this stuff creates the illusion that it is but it never ever looks tacky my mum would rather stick pins in her eyes then have a tacky tree.
I really would like a black tree so I decorate it with blue lights, tinsel and ornaments.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Mmm, my family's used a fake tree for...ever, I think. It looks pretty tacky, IMO (=P), but I would never say that in front of the other members of my family, 'cause they seem to like it...

I'd like to use a real tree at least once in my life, and make it just the way I like it: stylish. I'd be happy to abandon all of the crappy decorations we currently have. /metrosexualism

My sister's tree is real, but my mom and Dad's tree is fake. It became too much work going out into the woods and cutting one down. We used to do that all the time at my Grandparent's farm when I was younger.

I find a fake tree looks great, but nothing beats that wonderful smell of a real spruce tree.

Amen. Unfortunately, nothing beats the allergic reaction real spruce gives my eyes. ;_; Very frustrating. Have to temporarily make myself feel better using a Yankee Candle, and then I remember it's fake.

My mom and I got a fake 4' tree that was 75% off after Christmas last year. It already has color lights on it (awesome). Fake trees are the way to go now... none of the hassle of real trees, and easy set up/take down. Plus it lasts forever.

Well, it lasts as long as the fake needles stay on the fake branches. After about 10 times putting up and taking down, it gets pretty sparse, depending on the fake tree you got.

Oops, I clicked the wrong option. Our tree is the same as always: fake and huge. My family always put up a real tree, so it was depressing when my husband and I got married and moved to Alaska and found out the hard way that real trees only last a week up there. So we bought this huge fake thing and have been using it ever since.

I think it's on its last legs, so maybe next year I'll be able to get a real tree. And while we're on the subject, I hate white lights. They have to be colored or it's just not Christmasey, and I don't care if that's fashionable or not.

We've got this super budget fake one. I put it up this year because I felt Christmassy'ssy'sy. It's pretty much a green train wreck. TOOT TOOT all the branches are either breaking off or all FLACCID. I crashed into it while stumbling around in the dark the other night and busted the stand or something. Now it sits there on an angle with half arsed decorations and twenty year old flashing coloured lights that haven't flashed in over thirty years. It's the greatest Christmas tree ever.

I need to get my fake tree up again. I mean, I have no freaken excuse. It's prelit. My parents got it for me last year as a housewarming gift. And considering what my mom thinks of stringing lights on trees (HATE ANGER FRUSTRATION!).

What was cooler is they gave me a mix of old ornaments that I grew up with and some new ornaments to match the color scheme of my house. ^_^

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

My mother always puts up two fake plastic trees; one big one in the lounge and a tiny one in the hallway. They're both green and have multicoloured lights on them that glow quite softly, and are both decorated with old ornaments our family has had for years. I'd like a real tree but I could never be bothered with all of the mess it would make.

There is no option for "other"

I bought something different than a tree this year! Although I do have a fake one...just not using it. I figured, since I kicked my gf out earlier in the year, and family doesn't come to me...I always have to come to family (lol)....who the hell's gonna see it? Me? It's not that important to me, lol (feel as though its more of a family thing, so my "tree" would be the one at their place).

So instead of a tree, I went out and bought a 60" Sony SXRD 1080p HDTV! I'll put the gifts under that

I was speaking idiomatically.

My tree is fake. It's really old, almost as old as me but it has served my family well so far. I have had to fix it up a few times though. Like re-painting parts of the metal, or gluing branches back on. I've used a real tree once or twice in the past but it's too much of a headache.

Fill a spray bottle up with water and spray the cat everytime it gets near the tree. It'll learn not to go near it or into it pretty quick. My family has 5 cats so we use to have problems with the cats climbing into the tree or messing with decorations. But now they know to stay away from the tree else they get wet.

Yes we do have a tree up... though it's only about 5 inches tall. So yeah, definitely a fake (especially since the ends of the pines light up when you put batteries in the base).

That is so true. All they'll learn is that they can't do it when you're around. Trust me, when you're asleep or out of the house they're smart enough to know that they can do anything they want.

I guess that's mostly true. Mine haven't touched the tree in a long time though. They're pretty scared of it now. I have more problems with keeping them from eating garland in other parts of the house than them getting into the tree.
