Halloween/Trick or Treating Memories
I remember when I was a kid, an old guy who answered the door gave us 1 cent each. :eyebrow:

I've had that happen before, too. I've also gotten expired pretzels.
One time, when I was about 6 or 7, I went trick or treating as a cat. Almost every person who commented on my costume said "aww, what a cute mouse!". My ears were pointed. ![]() Also, one year I dressed as a toothpaste tube. My mom made the costume. I don't remember the comments I got on it, but I'm sure I did get -some-. Another odd costume of mine was a cellphone. The head piece kept falling over though. I literally had to hold it up when I approached someone's door. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
The last time I even went trick or treating, I put together a very elaborate Civil War costume, complete with a kepi hat and fake musket. Everyone told me they thought I was too old--this despite giving candy to 19-year-olds in Jason masks without complaint. Bastards.
How ya doing, buddy?

It's been years since I've been trick or treating. I remember one time I was a vampire but I lost my fangs so I was fangless for most of the night.
There was this one house near one of my friend's homes who didn't expect too many kids to stop by, so they just brought out a platter of candy and let us take it all. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
When I was about 10 my cousin and I were trick or treating in my grandparents' neighborhood. Everything seemed perfectly normal as we walked up to an old lady in a lawn chair in her driveway handing out candy, but then a man in a scary pig mask wearing a stained wifebeater came running out of the dark garage waving around a leaf blower, which we automatically assumed was a chain saw. We nearly pissed ourselves and took off running.

I remember approaching somebody's house only to be reprimanded with a "We don't observe that holiday." Then move into the country, you shallow loser.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
I was trick or treating with my friends when I was a youngen. Some older kids walked up and stole my bag of candy (we where sitting on a curb) I was a dressed up as a Killer with a baseball bat. I got my candy back, after I hit fucker in the ribs.

When I was about six or seven, I went to a house and the woman gave out graham crackers. During that same night, I stopped by another house that had a mini-haunted house set up for the children to go through. At the end, the candy was in a bowl. I'm surprised no one ran off with the whole thing.

My brother one time wore a devil mask and hid on the roof right over the door, when trick or treaters came by he would jump out to scare the kids and then lowered a bucket with the treats in it.

That was back in a time when people were actually honest.
I used to go outside my house, walk down the steps, turn left and do about 4 blocks until my bag was full. Then return home, empty the bags or pillow sacks, go back outside the house, turn right then do 4 or 5 blocks in that direction. Then me and my 2 other friends would put all the candy in one huge pile and seperate the good stuff from the bad stuff. There's nowhere I can't reach.

I was a pirate and the old man who answered made some kind of cheesy joke about the "glistening of my sword". I smiled brightly and even at such a young age, I thought: "What quaint old man."
One house near my apartment had a microphone and made people say stuff into it before getting their candy. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Every year there was this one house, it was huge and as far as anyone could tell, only one old woman lived there. It kinda creeped people out so not many kinds went to her door. My friends and I finally went up one year and she was giving out full sized candy bards and cans of pop. We had a good haul that year.
Costume-wise, there's one memory that srings to mind at Halloween. There's a house at the end of my block that does a huge display out of the front of their house, they get realy into it; smoke machine, tombstones on the lawn, they put fake corpses everywhere (real people who move suddenly and scare you), elaborate stuff like that. I remember one kid, who was going as Ryu from Street Fighter, wet himself when the coprse spoke to him up. I kinda felt bad for him since his costume was all white :/ How ya doing, buddy? Baaah~ |
My mother was always overprotective of my sister and I. Any Halloween in which the weather fell below 40 degrees (which is quite common up in Michigan), she would jam layers upon layers of clothing on us, then try and put our costumes over that. I would always get home and feel like I had been standing in front of a furnace the whole time. I also remember one year my sister's costume wouldn't go on over her coat, so my mom threw my sister's costume on her, then her coat over it. She kind of took the fun out of Halloween sometimes.
In every neighborhood I lived in, there was always one house that had a haunted house built up in the front yard. Looking back, I'm amazed people would go through that much trouble just for some kids in the neighborhood. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
Well Trick or Treating isnt as popular in the UK. Must be because we have so many rapes and child nappings lol.
However... One year we were out trick or treating and I went out dressed as an authentic Scream guy (Cliche I know). We got a nice haul but then we reached this one house with absolutely no sign of any Halloween decoration. We knocked, and a thin, hawk faced middle aged woman answered the door with a sneer, and thrust 2 leaflets at us. "Why God says Trick-Or-Treating is against the commandments" - We couldnt believe it so we egged and Tee-pee's her house. Stupid bitch. Oh and a year later I went as an awesome Cloud from FFVII. My mate was amazed, it took 4 months to make the costume and over a year to grow my hair lol. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |

I remember one year going around in my old neighborhood, in addition to candy, I received certain Filipino foods/desserts wrapped in foil as my treats. Totally awesome!
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
If my memory serves me correctly, this story was from the final year I went trick or treating.
I was with two friends and we pretty much went around to most of the houses in the neighborhood. I remember from years before, my brother going to one of the biggest houses in the neighborhood that belonged to an ex-local tv news reporter. He informed me that this house gave out the huge candy bars. So I told my friends that and we went the whole way across the other end of the housing plan since that was were the house was. We get up to the door and what do they give us? Little mints with bible passages written on them. I got so much shit about that the whole way home. How ya doing, buddy? |
Used the same Pumpkin costume for over 4 years. Meh, it was easy. Used to get an apple from an old lady every year... we decided to stop going after the third year. She wasn't about to step it up anytime soon.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Last Halloween, me and some friends went down this neighborhood, and we had a great time with commentary about some of the kids costumes (As I recall, there were a lot of spider-mans and supermans and witches), as well as seeing some of the more 'adult' costumes on older people (Like a 'Pimp' with his two 'hos', who to be fair, were pretty sexy-looking).
Wayy back in time, I also remember going to the mall for their Halloween thing, which amounted to just free candy I don't think I'll be doing much this year though... I'll just stay home tonight and play God of War. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

In all my years I've never been trick or treating; my parents had a variety of excuses ranging from "it's not safe" to "we don't want you to go out bothering people", but I think mostly it was because they would have to go too. However, I usually dress up in the evening whether I'm going to a party or not, just for the lucky kids who got to trick or treat.
I think my best costume is the one I revived tonight, Vyv from the Young Ones, but the most accurate was Death from the Sandman comic. I couldn't do that this year though because a friend of mine's mother died last week and I thought it was slightly inappropriate. We never really had much time at home for Halloween festivites when I was a kid but we always managed at least one round of bobbing for apples. One year my mother made up all kinds of horrific looking food (eyeballs and intestines spring to mind) and we had a proper spooky meal, but it was just a family thing. Most amazing jew boots ![]()

a few years ago when i was trick or treating with my younger brother, we went up to some guy's house and an old man opened the door, dropped some nuts in our pumkin baskets and said "suck on these"

I got egged once when I was nine or ten
. The dude was driving by in a car and he whipped this egg out and got me in the chest. It hurt like hell, and I had a bruise there for a week. How ya doing, buddy? |
Ah, how I loved sitting on the porch, scaring trick or treaters. Unfortunately, we don't get enough of 'em where we live now for it to be worth it anymore.
Back when I started, I just wore a black robe with black gloves, and a hood that covered my face but was visible through. Not particularly ideal, but it worked. One of my favorite scares with this was when a friend of mine came to the door with a large group of probably 10-20 teenagers. Some of the girls were scared and hung back, so the guy I knew came forward and felt my face. Pretending that I was fake, he told the others that it was safe to come forward. I waited until they were leaving to jump up and scared the crap out of them. Later on I upgraded to skeleton gloves, added straw sticking out of my sleeves, and my favorite addition - one of these beauties. As the kids would approach, I'd pump the blood, and give them a moment of watching in horror before jumping up at them. Of course, I always felt pretty bad when a 5 or 6 year old would come along. =/ I'd go out of my way to not scare them, but just by being there I kinda already had... And I don't their accompanying parents appreciated my being there, either.
FELIPE NO ![]() Bless the Maker and His water. Bless the coming and the going of Him. |
Went Trick Or Treating with some neighbor-friends one year. There's this lady that always gave miniature loafs of Wonder Bread. The lady who gave Wonder Bread was pretty old, probably in her 70s. Because my friends particularly liked Wonder Bread, we all switched articles of our costumes a bit, and went to her house again, and she didn't notice. Hehe. So we got more Wonder Bread.
I went as a stereotypical mexican one Halloween, which basically encompassed a sombrero and a pancho. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() In your dreams, magical thoughts All things are real, unless you dream they're not

I haven't gone in 3 or 4 years. Good memories. One year I spent it stealing from little kids. That never gets old.
It's also funny when people leave bowls of candy on their front porch and expect each kids to take one piece each. Me and some friends saw that and took off with the whole bowl, yeah, we took the bowl. I don't really know why, we just thought it was funny at the time. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
