ooh lookie, my first thread

I did a quick search through the forum to see if there was a thread about this series yet but to my surprise there wasn't, so I figured I'd make one. ( I wouldn't be surprised to hear that a Sailor Moon thread existed in a previous version of the board, but I'm a newbie still, so... ^^; )

Anyway, I made a post in my ChocoJournal last night that mentioned Sailor Moon and got quite a few comments about it, so I know other fans are here. :3 For those fans, here are a few questions to get a discussion going (my answers under spoiler tags):

- Which do you prefer, the anime or manga? Why?

I liked the anime more, actually. Probably because I grew up with it as opposed to the manga. I liked seeing everything in action. Besides, Ail and Ann weren't in the manga.

- Who is your favorite senshi? Why?

Spoiler:

Sailor Mars. I like fire, and I liked her personality the best out of all of them. I thought her little spats with Usagi were funny too. I also like Venus, mainly for comedic relief, and Saturn because she had a frail appearance much like I do. Besides, you can't say her powers didn't kick butt. :x

- Least favorite? Why?

Spoiler:

Chibimoon got on my nerves sometimes but overall I didn't hate her. I can't say I really have a least favorite.

- Favorite season? Why?

Spoiler:

S. Eudial's my favorite villain and the whole Mistress 9 thing was interesting. And this season didn't revolve around Chibimoon like another did.. *cough* Also, Uranus and Neptune first appear here.

I think that's enough for now. I may ask more questions if this thread becomes successful.

I stopped watching sailor moon after they took it off from wb and thats a very long time ago. I never felt like I wanted to keep watching it anyways becuase the series always went on the same direction where "friendship" conquers all.
I was also turned off from the crossdessers ^^;
The early episodes were very interesting though, tuxedo mask was an awsome pimp .
I was annoyed by sailor moon though since she cried and wined so much.
Jupiter was the worst though, I don't know why Maybe cause she was green.
Sailor mars was the best, the dark haired girls with high heels and long legs are always the best. Plus she was probably the only one that could really fight.

Umm..Sailormoon was basically the first animes i've encountered back when it was the WB "Anime Hour" in the mornings. The only season that bothered me a bit was SuperS. Probably because of the whole Rini (Chibi-USA) and Pegasus CRAP>=p. Now to answer a few things. Btw.. It doesn't have to be in spoilers since I'm sure no one will be interested in this anime since its old and classic.

- Which do you prefer, the anime or manga? Why?

Once again, I never got to read the manga because at that time, it was on the WB. When it moved to CN to air the rest of R, S and SuperS, I read a few chapters but I couldn't get into it. Sailormoon, to me, is better animated than the manga. I've yet to finish Stars as some slow fansub group is giving their best to sub it.

- Who is your favorite senshi? Why?

I switched from Ami to Hotaru. But so far , I haven't seen much of Hotaru in action like Ami (Mercury) in Sailormoon S. She is definately an important character of the story but as a senshi, not my favorite-- just a favorite character. So yeah. I'm for Ami. She's smart, figures out the weaknesses in their opponents and the end up winning in the end.

- Least favorite? Why?

Sailor Venus was kind of impressing in the first season and a little on S but after that she just went a little downhill. As a normal character, her personality and funny scenes save her.

- Favorite season? Why?


Mine was definately Sailormoon S. Probably better than R. Before this came up in CN i was searching for a few episodes subbed on the net. Hotaru was the main reason why i loved this season. She was also a villian along with her father who had a team called the Witches 5. I can't really think of who was the best in that team but Mimette was fun ;p. Overall , I enjoyed S more than R and SuperS. I still need to watch Stars.

Shenlon. you should try watching the rest. Just dont watch SuperS..or at least skim through it ;p.

Shenlon - ever see the subtitled version? It's quite different from the dubbed. Usagi's still kind of annoying though.

chato - I haven't seen any of Stars, mainly because it isn't licensed in the US and I never bothered to buy any fansubs. One of these days I will see it though. (Even though I know pretty much the whole story anyway. Heh.) Mimete killed Eudial so she was my least favorite of the Witches 5.

The whole Haruka and Michiro relationship is what turned them US companies the wrong way. Hence , why it wasn't dubbed anymore as you know in the dub version they are referred to as cousins =/.

The H&M being cousins thing was pretty lame. I still think it was obvious they were more than that in the dub because not -everything- was taken out. I think one episode had Michiru holding Haruka's hand and gazing into her eyes and that was unedited. And I think another reason why Stars won't be dubbed is because of the whole Starlights thing. Plus, the last episode has some nudity.

I think if you use Firefox, You'll get a fair boost or something. Works for me and it downloads a little better than Internet Explorer o.o.

The whole nude/half nude thing nowadays don't really mean shit to Cn anymore. If they wanted to they can always ask for a dub and let it head onto Adult Swim. Back then, they were just too serious with editing but they were able to pull it off. Not like it'll happen anytime soon but it has to end sometime in the future >.>;. Before there were planning a sequel for Sailormoon but i guess they scrapped it. Thus came the horrific Live Action.

I really wished I watched more of the later arcs of Sailor Moon past the ones they showed here on YTV. It was probably my first anime, I remember watching in when I was 6 along with Keroppi and Hello Kitty.

My favourite senshi was Mercury because she was the intelligent one. I then started to dislike her when I eventually realized that Mercury Bubbles did no damage whatsoever until it combined with Mars Fire and Moon Tiara Magic.
After seeing Saturn being the main damage dealer in the Another Story RPG, she was my favourite.

I've probably only seen the first couple of arcs, since I can only remember Allen and Eve, Zoecite, Jedite, Malachite and Nephrite. I wish I saw more of the dark seed business with professor Tomoe too. Out of those my favourite would probably be Allen and Eve for using cardions.

The attacks always fascinated me with their chintzy appeal. I like the progression of Moon Tiara Action, Moon Healing Activate, Moon Sceptre Elimination, etc.

My favourite episode would be the one where all the senshi "die" against the gloom and doom sisters. I'd be happy to see the original Japanese version of that, and see if that's uncensored.

I've always loved Sailor Moon, which is somewhat embarrasing since I am all male.

I recall getting some SM stuff for xmas and having to hide it from my mom's macho-man boyfriend and his friends, oh good times.

Overall Stars was my favorite season, due to it being such a tear-jerker. I cried hard on like the last half of the episodes. Good times.

Yeah, I thought Mercury's attacks were pretty funny. XD I mean, which is more threatening: an ocean literally rushing towards you or some bubbles? She was helpful in battle sometimes though.. and for some reason, she kicked butt in the Mortal Kombatesque videogames.

Allen and Eve? You mean Alan and Ann, right? :x

I loved Sailor Moon's attacks, only because she took like 10 minutes to perform them.

Anyway, how do you all feel about Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon? I like it, though I wish it was longer. Dark Mercury > regular Mercury anyday.

Hmm, it's been a long time since I've seen Sailor Moon episodes. I never forgot about them though. I've only seen the Anime, so I'll have to prefer that for now. Sailor Mars (Rei Hino) was my favourite, plus she was hot. I loved her fire power. My least favourite was Sailor Venus. I don't have a specific reason why, but I guess I just didn't really pay much attention to her. She was just there. I've only seen the first season and bits of R and S. I can't say which ones were my favourites.

Live Action version anyone? I haven't really read the manga so I don't have an opinion on it but I liked the live remake better than the anime... the acting started bad and the show was pretty cheesy, but by the end it became an amazing drama IMO. Great characters.

I like the Sailormoon anime. I used to watch it alot many years back. I think there was this thing about Zoicite (sp?) playing classical pieces like the Moonlight Sonata or the Fantasie Impromptu on the piano. Any idea which episodes where those from?

"Sailor Moon" was one of the first animes I watched and I have a lot of nostalgia for it. If I had to choose an favorite, I would go with Sailor Mercury because I can identify with her more than any other sailor scout. I'm not particularly fond of Chibimoon.

I must say that I think I like the Live Action version more now, though, because I really connected with the characters more so than in the anime. Yes, the live action started off rather cheesy and the villians were rather "Power Ranger" in their appearance, but I have to agree with Vkamicht that the series grows more dramatic.

And Dark Mercury was freaky. :O I actually have a figurine of the Live Action Sailor Mercury sitting next to my computer as my computer guardian.

Saturn. Get her mad, she blows up the planet. Simple enough.

Chibimoon, Chibichibi, but I don't think they count. Otherwise Mercury.

S. Everything came together well and there were plenty of enjoyable characters.

I haven't touched this show in nearly eight years since the show really wasn't that great once I thought about it, but I will give this show credit for getting me entangled in my anime hobby.
