Word Limiting Sizes Problem?

Not sure what to call this... but for some reason all of a sudden I can't call files certain amount of characters long which I could before... keeps telling me it's invalid... so I shorted it and it works... but even then sometimes when I click on the files it tells me it's invalid and I can't even delete those files anymore... any idea what's going on? How can I make it so I can call the files as long as I can... btw I know the length I want is possible 'cause other computers could name that length fine and so did mine before today <.<
