Cats vs. Dogs... Go play with your fucking fish, Kurado.
The last time this thread was made people got so heated up the thread was moved to the sewers, then eventually closed. Someone even semi continued it in the testing forum.
Cats vs. Dogs. What do you prefer? List pros and cons of each if you`d like. Me, in the end, I`m a cat person. Easy to train, very clean, and they don`t fucking jump all over you all the time. No barking, etc. Currently there`s a dog where I live. Good little bastard. I mean, you can train a dog to not do most of the stupid shit they naturally do. But most people don`t have the time or patience for that. In this regard cats are much more convenient. The nice thing about a dog though is he`ll always be there to give you love. A cat has to be in the mood. I guess cats are more... Humanlike. The novelty of a dog is that you can kick the fucking shit out of him and he`ll love you in 30 seconds like nothing ever happened. A cat will probably take a chunk out of you and maybe take a week to get over it. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Cats! I have several (well, actually, more than several, but I won't go into exactly how many). I've been around cats all my life and I can't imagine living without one. My one cat pretty much follows me around everywhere and even wakes me up in the morning. He's a sweetheart.
I don't dislike dogs, but I'm definately more of a cat person. If I see a stray dog I won't go near it (heck, depending on the dog I may even run) but if I see a stray cat I can't help but go 'aww' at it. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
That`s right. I like the direction the poll`s taking already. First Coke SMASHED Pepsi, now cats are showing their dominance. What`s next...

I guess it's cats for me as well. I just find that they are a whole lot less annoying than dogs. Dogs tend to bark way too much (especaily the dog next door.)

The sole advantage of dogs is that they are ALWAYS READY.
Fortunately, cats are small enough that you can grab them if they're not in the mood for whatever program you want them to get with. In general, I just feel they have more personality. Too many dogs are just subtle variations on that basic personality type that is best expressed as: "I like things! And stuff! Oh boy, let's go!" I was speaking idiomatically. |
I grew up with 4 dogs and 3 cats, then when I moved out--I got a cat.
I love cats. I never have to walk her, and she's there for me when I get home. I swear I cried a bucket when my first cat died. Then I got the one I have now, and man, is she a handful! But I wouldn't trade her for anything. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
I'm allergic to cats and they hate me.
For example, my aunt' cat scratched all the way down my leg when I was 8. There were a couple huge red lines on my shin. FELIPE NO |
I love cats. They're so cute and wittle bittle itty witty...
*ahem* But yeah, cats are soft and cuddly and holdable, and all of mine are trained to meow when I say "Baby!" or "Kitty!". What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I've never owned a cat so I say dog by default. I'd agree when people say they're stupidly addicted to you and won't give you a second's peace when you just want them to go away, but that's just the nature of the dog. They love you no matter what, idiotic love that takes them to the ends of the world. And that's what makes them so great.
Cats are cuddlly though and if they didn't run away all the time, I might just love them as much. But cats suck more that they have more natural defenses, when all dogs have are teeth. And if you have a dog like mine, his mouth is so small all he can get around is my finger, much less a major limb. Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
I'd rather be bitten by a dog than scratched by a cat.
Seriously, I'd go with dogs. Yeah, dogs can be noisy, but I'm allergic to cats, so they automatically lose. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
Dogs for the win. Cats are for chicks and faggots. I despise caturday, and I find any form of humor lost when a cat is involved.
Dogs actually act like they wanna be around you, and they show affection. If you want a pet and decide to get a cat, you should just buy a pillow and put nails in it. Every now and then have someone run in and throw the pillow, nails and all, at you while your sleeping, and yell "ENJOY YOUR CAT, FAGGOT!" This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
Cats for me. I have had many cats and currently own 3.
I agree with the cats are more human like thing. With dogs they just blindly love you. With cats you have to earn their trust. If you piss them off they're going to stay pissed for awile. Ive had dogs before and they're good pets too. But I found cats much better as a friend/pet. Once you earn a cat's trust and build a relationship with one it becomes a very lovable and friendly companion. Like dogs they will seek you out for attention or caring. I've had my cats for years and every day they will all jump up to me or down on me to rub themsevles up against me or curl up to nap in my lap. If I leave the house they will actually whine/meow untill I come back and can get pretty upset if left alone too long. Two of them will follow me around the house and try to stay around me when they're lonely every now and then. The only problem with cats is they're pretty hard to train. If they don't want to do something they are not going to do it. So if they dont want to learn they aren't going to pay attention or absorb it. But it's not impossible. They atleast learn what is okay and not okay. My cats adapted to my voice and body language to communicate with me or understand me. So they know if they have fucked up or if I'm in a good/bad mood. They've learned ways to make me understand what they want too. The plus side of cats is they're pretty clean animals and take care of themselves. No need to walk them so they can go to the bathroom. No need to wash them alot since they wash themselves constantly. Oh yeah, fun little tidbit. A cat is capable of 100+ different vocalizations with meowing alone. A dog is only capable of 10 with their barking. So cats can be very talkative animals. That's not counting their purring, body language, clicking, hissing, or growling too. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?
Stuff goes here~

Dogs all the way. I don't trust cats and I somehow always manage to get cut by those damn claws. I read an article once that pretty much debunked the idea that cats are smarter than dogs, so I don't consider that baseless little knock against dogs anymore. One of the things the writer talked about was how social skills are also a measurement of intelligence, and dogs are obviously more sociable and trainable than cats, so I'm sure that they're also reasonably intelligent as far as domesticated animals go.
I will say that I might prefer for my immediate neighbors to own cats instead, because I hate it when dogs bark at night while I'm trying to sleep. I started to hate that dog which used to reside next door. The bastard was paranoid or something and would let out these odd shrieking barks at night. Fortunately, my dog is the coolest. I was speaking idiomatically.

Dogs, no contest. I've owned 2 dogs (and babysat for several others) and 1 cat in my lifetime. Never saw the cat at all...Only memory I have of her was waking up one morning and watching her chase a mouse. She was rather anti-social (and we were always nice to her too).
Dogs are more "in your face" and more expressive overall (barking and all), while keeping the relaxed/secluded nature of cats at times. I can relate to that better than I ever could with my cat. I consider my dog (a labrador-border collie mix) to be the perfect companion, in either hyper mode or peaceful R and R mode. It's scary how much she understands... What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I love cats. I had one cat in my life for 9 years, until she died. She was the love of my life and I will never own another pet for as long as I live. She will never be replaced.
I'm insanely and I mean insanely allergic to animals, and I suffered through almost 10 years of coughing, wheezing weezing, eye scratching and having trouble breathing because I loved my cat too much. I like dogs a lot too, but prefer cats. FELIPE NO

Ah dogs all the way man, I've had 3 (the third being still alive) and I'm soon getting another for company for that dog. Cats are stuck up as hell, they really are, the only thing they're loyal to is themselves, I friggin' hate em'.
Course I understand the problems people can have with keeping dogs, especially in a city, but its never happened to me so I only have good things to say so yeah, dogs pour la win and whatnot! What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Just locked up the vote again it seems.
Cats r better k coz they can take care of themselves unlike dogs who lick their balls lol Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Dogs FTW. Yeah sure cats have more "personality" but when you need to cuddle a pet or something the last thing you need is to find out is that your pet ain't in the mood for cuddles or what not. Dogs are more reliable, they can be counted as one of life's constants. Sure dogs aren't great at cleaning themselves but then again washing your dog can be quite fun and doesn't (really shouldn't) feel like a chore, after all maintaining your pet is simply part of really owning a pet in my opinion.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I'd have to say dogs, but I really like cats, too. My family's only ever had one cat (which is still with us) and my father's alergic to it, meaning we won't be getting any more when she goes..
![]() We've always had more dogs, anyway. Not any of the really energetic, aggressive dogs, just the friendly, laid-back ones. They always bring a smile to my face. Most amazing jew boots |
What with all the "Dogs have no personality" crap? Dogs can have a hell of a personality if you let it bloom and aren't one of those idiots who need something to test their authority on at all times.
Also, while you can kinda talk about "cats" as a whole, I find it hard to talk about every races of dogs as being uniform. Differences in personalities between races are huge. I like both cats and dogs. I like the mysterious behaviours of cats, the way they play and the occasional proofs of love they give you. What I dislike about them is their cruelty and the fact you sometimes feel they belong to who feed them most. I'm talking about those cats who gets food all over the neighbourhood from other people and torture helpless rodents for hours. As for dogs, well, you can run, fight, play all kind of games with them. A dog can truly become a companion of every moments. Although he will always naturally consider at least one of the persons of the family as being above him, it's amusing to witness how they sometimes feel with young children and act like they have a responsability to educate them. Dogs can truly become an active part of a family if they're given the chance, while cats always keep their distances at some point. Oh yeah, the ways dogs look at you too. While cats always keep the somewhat confictual eye contact thing, dogs actually like to communicate through eyes contacts with humans. I always try to make eye contacts with dogs I cross in the street. Pretty amazing how you sometimes feel some not only look back at you but change their facial expression to something that looks like a smile. But yeah, to me dogs are also linked to the countryside life and all the running around in nature. I don't see myself having a dog without a large garden and a house at the countryside. So yeah, ferrets all the way in the small appartment I'm in right now. The day I move to my dream house though, it will be dogs and cats. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I don't have much time so I prefer cats. I also think that Cats is an awesome musical, while Dogs sucks.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
That's a good point Mush and I think paired with my "dogs lick balls" argument, we have a good case!
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |

My vote goes to Cats. I happen to have a very friendly and affectionate cat who has made some of my friends who were strictly dog lovers re-evaluate their opinions. I managed to raise my cat to be open to anybody, I have friends who he has never seen come in, pick him up and cuddle him with his response being to cuddle back TO THE EXTREME. Oh and it's funnier to get a cat stoned than a dog because I notice the cat appreciates the buzz more, a dog usually sits, drools, and stares at a wall.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Cats.
Quiet, will sit in my lap while I read or work on the computer, traditionally small (preferred if they sleep on my bed), easily trained, and oh so cuddly!! no drooling, loud noises, getting into the trash, or fighting me for bed space. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
