Stop talking about the Barbie series, Kurado.
Okay, first of all, this thread will not include RPG plots.
That aside, what video game PLOT do you enjoy most? I know that`s kind of hard to narrow down, so if you want go ahead and list some of your favorites. Lately I`ve been getting into the Mortal Kombat and Streetfighter Canons. Also, when I was younger about ten years ago, I was obsessed with finding details about the Virtua Fighter series. You know, if you just played the games and did nothing else, you wouldn`t know a fucking thing about the background story to that game. Three fighting games. I`m a real fucking creative bastard. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Gotta be the GTA series for me. Alright the plot's were pretty predictable and were there more to set the scene for some random violence normally but the cut scenes are generally very funny and at least the story is coherent enough to get a sense of attachments to the characters. Other than that I guess Metal Gear Solid was pretty rad, story-wise. It all got a bit wanky and silly in the sequels though.
There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() ![]() |
Most of my favorite plots belong to RPG's, but outside of them, definitely the whole pseudo-historical vibe of the Dynasty Warriors series. It's made me want to read up on the entire 3 Kingdoms saga (among other Chinese history) in more detail. Ace Combat mixes in a solid storyline with the highflyin' shootin'...Both aspects could probably stand alone quite capably.
I'd love to have seen Rare run with Battletoads a little more indepth. They had all of the markings of a TMNT killer (at the time). And also Guilty Gear's story is pretty in-depth for a fighting game...All the workings are there for a quality anime series (music, characters, plot, cool moves, voice acting). On that note, I liked the homely feeling of the Street Fighter Alpha 2 endings...No tournament, no "set" bad guy, just each different fighter trying to settle a score or accomplish something. Really made the cheesy M. Bison arc of Alpha 3 seem much worse (not to mention the Street Fighter Alpha anime). And I probably enjoyed the KOF Orochi saga far more than I should have. For something as laughably cliche as that, SNK really ran with it. I love talking to diehard SNK fans who swear it was the greatest plot ever. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
I'm taking over this town...
I'm screaming for vengenace... I'm shouting at the devil... I'm not dead and I'm not for sale... Ain't lookin' for nothin' but a good time...

The MGS plots are great, I haven't the patience to play the game but I can sit and watch the plot develop with someone else playing.
I gotta say I really thought the plot for Resi Evil 4 was great, that may be just due to the coolness of the thingy in the lake though, but I enjoyed the plot! Pretty much all other plots I'd enjoy would be RPG's though, since they're kind of built for it. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Dead or Alive series to some extent. Only because the storylines are not fleshed out enough in the games. I dont buy books and shit, but I have looked up extended character profiles online.
I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
As a kid, I was obsessed with the Myst games and unravelling their secrets and backstory and such.
Along the same lines in the adventuring genre, I absolutely loved the storyline in Shadow of Destiny. Really nice sleeper hit featuring the voice of Mario as an androgynous alchemically-created villain ![]() How ya doing, buddy? |
The Monkey Island series. Easy. These games all tied together (quite tightly, I might add) while managing to be fucking hilarious. RPGs included, I can't think of a set of games I enjoy playing more.
FELIPE NO ![]() John Mayer just asked me, personally, through an assistant, to sing backup on his new CD. |
