Most valued save data.

Of all the memory card blocks, computer files, and internal cartridge memory space you've written to, drawing from your entire collection of games and spanning every platform you own: which single piece of saved data strikes you as the most valuable? The one piece of data you would have spared above all, if some catastrophic mass saved game wiping took place.

For me, it'd be my Deathtank (Sega Saturn real-time Scorched Earth style multiplayer tank-em-up) save file. It's the #1 competitive multiplayer game amongst my mates, and the save file has tallied some 5 or so years worth of stats from every game played. Each person to have played the game has their points, kill data, and resulting ranking placement recorded from all of this accumulated data over the years, and it'd be quite a loss for it all to disappear. I'm also well in the lead of everyone else.

Other conceivable choices, like single player high scoring achievements in Radiant Silvergun, don't come close in the end, because they're probably shit scores anyway. Even though they're the best I can personally come up with, the Internet ruined everything by forcing me to compare with gamers in Japan, a country where people are just genetically better at shoot-em-ups than round eyes (though comfortingly worse at FPS).

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Sad, but probably the unprotected WarCraft 3 custom maps that I made. Some of which have been worked on for years.

My Suikoden 2 "good ending" save. While I think S5 was an overall improvement on S2, S2's ending was one of the most emotional things in all of gaming (provided you experience the game beforehand) and not much really comes close to it. Plus, I worked pretty hard for the full 108 characters in that game...35 hours of constantly checking a guide to ensure I don't miss anyone is mentally taxing.

Not even a contest, although I highly value my Japanese Marvel vs Capcom 2"all character" save, because of all the hours I've logged on that game and I've had the same VMU and save data (and arcade stick) since the Japanese game came out.

My initial choice would be the save data from Super Mario World (SNES) because it was the first real game I managed to complete. I unlocked each world and all secrets without using prior knowledge from friends or a guide. I was also young when I cleared the game alone.

Hmm... my most valuable save data would have to be for F-Zero GX. That game was extremely difficult to unlock everything on, and it took me countless late night hours to complete it. Normal mode was difficult enough to complete on Story Mode. Very Hard was monumentally challenging.

Ugh, if that save data ever gets misplaced or deleted I don't think I'll have the inner strength to actually complete the game again.

Mine used to be my FF7 game. Everyone had 255 for stats, I had most of the good specialty armlets and weapons, and I had a full customized set of Materia for everyone. I can't even remember how many hours that took me to do. It was like a month or something. I also mananged to have some of the most ridiculously high scores for the Snowboarding (!) game. My ghost moogles were untouchable.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I'd want to keep my track times and medal count for Wipeout 2097 and Wipeout Pure. They’d be a priority. I've put a lot of time into them both, and the work it took to get to the standard I’m at, wasn't easy.

Also my scores on Lumines and Zoo Keeper too. They’re not especially high, but then I’m not especially good. I’d just like to keep them anyway.

Other than that, you can wipe everything.

Probably Worms 3D (yeah yeah wah wah Worms 3D isn't as good 'coz it's 3D and and and), it gets a lot of multiplayer love and there's a slew of team information saved. Do you know how time consuming and brain melting making teams is with a friggin' control pad? Very! Very to both!

But F-Zero GX is probably tied with it. Beating the bloody story mode was a nightmare and Nintendo were SO KIND as to NOT LET YOU COPY THE SAVE FILE OVER TO ANOTHER CARD. So I've got all my sweat and tears trapped in a dodgy 3rd party memory card. It's gonna go one day and on that day I will drop to my knees and cry. As long as it's raining at the time.

My 200+ hours Final Fantasy X savegame with all bonus missions completed. Not too much other stuff, maybe some Sim City maps and some Rollercoaster Tycoon parks, but nothing too exciting.

My Star Ocean 3 300/300 Battle Trophy save file. I bought a CodeBreaker system JUST to be able to transfer that save over from the memory card to my computer at which point I've proceeded to burn it onto almost every anime DVD I've made henceforth to take up the filler space left over.

That save file is the product of two months of pure war with SO3, I'm not about to lose it all.

Well my most valued save data has been lost in a crash like 3 or 4 years ago. It was Jetpack, a PC game (now freeware) with one of the most simplistic and intuitive level editors ever created. I KNOW I created over 8,000 stages with that thing, and I was really distressed to see it go, though not many of the stages were good from a professional standpoint. It was the first game that got me into level design and appreciation of it.

Now... well... my 20.2 mil Ikaruga score I guess; too bad it amounts to nothing according to Kolba

Probably my saves for the various Beatmania IIDX games. I've spent hours upon hours getting scores for every song, and scores that are the best I can do. I keep outdoing scores, so the saves keep improving, but the amount of time it would take to put them all in again would take me months.

Smash Bros Melee for the GC. It has over 40 saved friends names + all their random scores we've accumulated over the years. I'd hate to see that go, and the one I'm afraid to mention.. my pokemon silver GBC cartridge. Without using a gameshark, I have all 251 of the evil creatures, collected via trades/contests and tournaments.

My SNES copy of FFIII, because I actually beat that game twice. The only other RPG ever that I beat twice was Might & Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven. I beat FFIII before I had access to FAQ's, so it was all me.

Wild Arms: Alter Code F save data. I put weeks into that game, and if I had to guess, I was probably 95-99% completion on everything put together.

Well, it was my 300+ hour Pokemon Ruby cart, but that was stolen over 1.5 years ago. Now, I have some data that I'd like to keep, but nothing horribly important.

I already lost one of my most important ones... My Ogre Battle 64 save game. Unfortunately that game only has 2 save slots, so when I wanted to replay the game and my bro was playing through it too, it had to go . Very said day, as that was hundreds (I many hundreds) of hours lost.

Other than that, I'd have to say currently my Oblivion saves. God help me if I lost those, cause I'm sure I'd never touch the game again and it'd piss me right off.

Honorable Mentions = RE4 (GC) and RE (GC)

I value almost all of the RPGs that I've played with at least 40+ hours on them. But some of my other valued saves would be games like Dynasty Warriors, Silent Hills, and Resident Evils, which does not take long at all to beat and find most of the secrets each play through, but moreso of going through multiple playthroughs (more then most RPGs) to unlock every little thing.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I would have said my savegame for Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 3D (for PC) where I had finished all the levels (including the bonus ones) with a gold medal. But a virus took care of that one several years ago so I'll probably say my SSBM save instead. I've done far from everything in the game, but I have at least completed all the event matches.

I have too many to really name. I'll just name my most recent valued save: Tales of Symphonia, it is by no means complete, but I didn't spend near 70 hours on that game for nothing.

I got a few:

1. My PSO Episode I/II characters. In total over 5000 hours of work went into them.

2. My Legend of Legaia save. Got all the Seru's, AND got Juggernaut. (which means max level on all characters)

3. My Tales of Legendia complete save. That game was freaking long as hell, but I'm happy I completed it.

4. Last, but most important to me is my Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain save file. I have some DAMN GOOD custom characters. Even obscure ones like King/Armor King from Tekken.

My most valued savegame is already gone. =(

It was my uber Lufia 2 savegame. It had EVERYTHING. Including every item from the ancient cave. I made a fucking stupid mistake when I made a new game and saved over that one...all that work.

My savegame now...probably be Star Ocean 3 or Disgaea.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
