Internet Connection Sharing
Ok, I've got my network in my room like this:
Internet connects to Laptop Cardbus Ethernet Port. Laptop Cardbus Ethernet port shares across LAN2 connection on laptop to the LAN1 connection on the Desktop ------------------------------ I've got everything manually set up like this: Host (Laptop) -- Automatically Configured (Cardbus Ethernet) -- Manual settings for LAN2: ---- IP: 192.168.0.1 ---- Subnet: 255.255.255.0 ---- Default Gateway: (blank) ---- Preferred DNS/Alternate DNS filled in with the same IP's from the autoconfigured connection Client (Desktop) --IP: 192.168.0.2 --Subnet: 255.255.255.0 --Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1 --Preferred DNS: 192.168.0.1 --Alternate DNS: (blank) -------------------------------------------------------- I get the following error every time I try to connect to the internet on my client -> 503 Service Unavailable Resources to service this request are not available. This message is sent by Packeteer PacketShaper --------------------------------------------------------- I have NO idea what is going on. I tried pinging the client from the host, and vice versa, and both ways worked flawlessly. There are no firewalls enabled on the client, but I do have Windows Firewall enabled on the host out of necessity since it is connected to a Broadband internet connection. ---------------------------------------------------------- Any help here would be greatly appreciated, as well as getting zonealarm put on the client & working fine. And obviously, the internet on the host machine is working just fine ![]() __________________ Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() FGSFDS!!! |

Try this (Assuming your running Windows XP SP2):
1) Click Start. 2) Select Network Connections. 3) Right click and select Properties on your Internet Connection i.e the one you are sharing. 4) Click the Advanced tab at the top. 5) Click the Settings button under ICS and check the boxes e.g DNS etc.. 6) Turn off or use something instead of Windows Firewall. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I ended up getting it fixed. There were a few tweaks as far as my manual settings go.
I ended up using automatic settings for my connection on the desktop, and just using 192.168.0.1 & 255.255.255.0 for the manual settings on the laptop, nothing else set. It also helped that I setup my browser on the client to use my university's port 80 proxy server, lol. Thanks for the help though. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() FGSFDS!!! |
