Earthworm Jim's groovin' on back to PSP

I thought we'd never see the poor bastard again after the horrors of Earthworm Jim 3D, Earthworm Jim Menace 2 The Galaxy (seriously, what the FUCK were they thinking?) and the shocking ports of the first two on GBA. BUT NO! Shiny's got the rights to EWJ back and Atari's barrel rolled in to publish it. It looks to be a bit of mish mash game, with new and old levels, starting the story over again somehow (a very complex, epic, life changing story). I hope to God they don't bother with the whole Down the Tubes level though!

New Junk City let me touch you and your trash filled goodness.

COW LAUNCHED.

The graphics are pretty cool, they haven't cluttered shit up too much. 2D sprites would have been a hell of a lot better though. I hope the animation is as insanely fluid as the original! New to the series is the ability to upgrade your attacks and stuff by finding the bits and pieces through the levels. There's also a multiplayer mode, apparently. There's probably some more pictures and some more words here! Due out SOMETIME later this year. HOT SEX.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

1. I don't have a PSP.

2. Those pics are broken, unless it's just me.

3. EWJ was a cool series. I remember riding around on a giant hamster...or was it a guinea pig?

There's nowhere I can't reach.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Oh, I see. You linked to IGN, and I can't access the site from work. Lots of places are restricted.

Hamsters for the win. I had some as pets in the past.

Yeah, this was showed in some magazines about 2 months ago, seems to be just a remake of EWJ Special Edition in 3D, but you never know... still looks at least much better that the horrible EWJ3D.

We need more Puppy Love!

I was speaking idiomatically.

Looks good, though I will agree with Infernal Monkey with the fact Shiny should've stuck with 2D. I just see the game mechanics being too fast for 3D. =/ Time will tell, though. You never know, they may have the original EWJ and 2 unlockable. Peter Puppy FTW.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I always loved Earthworm Jim and was even a fan of the cheezy cartoon show. Looking back now the game was never really that good at all, but the style and sheer anarchy of it all drew me in. The game looks like a solid port for PSP and hopefully revives the franchise.

That's pretty cool, EWJ was a fun game back in the day. Sounds like a Maverick Hunter-esq remake, seems the PSP is becoming a pretty popular platform for full 2.5D updates to games. The 3d models don't quite seem to have the character that the original sprites did, but it still looks pretty nice.

Video

I hope that animation is very, veeery early on, because it's pretty bad. ;_; Though judging by the weird stretching effect, I'd say so. The background music was boring, too. But hey, seems like an EWJ game might actually play like an EWJ game again!

I agree. The animation seemed ... unfinished. It actually looked smooth in most parts, but very stiff for jumping and falling. The stretching effect looked ugly as hell, I hope they get rid of that. My only other complaint is that there ought to be less zooming and Jim should be larger, he seems so tiny and fragile judging from that video. The rest of the gameplay looks rock-solid, though.

How ya doing, buddy?

Backgrounds look good, but like everyone is saying it should have used 2d sprites. Or atleast add a few polys to define him more. His model just looks generic. I realize its on the PSP, and shortcuts had to be made, but still part of Earthworm Jim was all the crazy/cool animations he had. And the emotions he showed while doing them.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
