HTML directory browser frontend

First of all, I have no clue where to put this since it's also a request. I'm sure a moderator will decide this for me.

On to the problem itself: I'm going to upload a lot of files on my webserver via FTP and I want them to be available for download from a customizable HTML frontend that allows visitors to navigate through the HTTP protocol files and directories. Furthermore, this frontend should be restricted to certain web directories only and not be a global thing so it doesn't interfere with protected directories on the webserver.

If possible, the frontend should be free, easily customizable, preferrably written in PHP and offer features such as download counters and statistics. Individual user accounts would be a bonus, but not required. I know there are a lot of solutions for this available, but I need someone who is familiar with these things to provide me with a quick overview.

Thanks a bunch in advance!

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I've found PHPfileNavigator which seems to be what you're looking for, complete with individual user accounts, and is written in PHP. I've not used it, so I do not know if it is customisable, but most scripts I've encoutered allows you to modify the page with CSS styles very easily providing you leave the script tags alone. If it is not to your taste, there are plenty others in the PHP Resource Index.

How ya doing, buddy?
