MP4 File Issue
I just downloaded an .mp4 file... and installed this codec =>http://www.3ivx.com/download/
But no player (divx, wmp or winamp (but I dun use this one)) seems to be able to work it out... So what can I install to get this working... also anyway of converting it to a more friendly version... say .avi? Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() ^By Auro from the FFXII board... Thanks ^^ |
.mp4 and .avi are merely containers formats, containing the video track, audio track, and subtitles; therefore changing the container format will not allow you to playback the video. You need to determine what format the video is encoded in, and you can do so using GSpot. Once you know the format the video is encoded in, you can get the correct codecs.
I would recommend CCCP, a filter pack that will probably play back everything you ever encounter. It comes with Media Player Classic and ZoomPlayer, which are both vastly superior to WMP, DivX or WinAmp. Before installing CCCP, make sure you have deleted all other codecs and filters as they can cause conflicts. Most amazing jew boots |

I don't recommend codec packs. The only thing they surely can is fuck up your system. Only install whats necessary. So check out what codec the video stream embedded in the mp4 uses and download an appropriate codec.
cya liquid How ya doing, buddy? |
Search Google for Haali Media Splitter... Or find a Media Player Classic ver 6.4.9.0
Either of these will give your comp the ability to *play* MP4 files but not necessarily the video or audio inside the MP4 file. For that, I recommend FFdShow for its ease of use, high customizability, great quality, and ability to uninstall easily. I recommend you download either KMPlayer (Korean Media Player) or VLC. Both come with all of their codecs built in. Between the two of them, I have never run into any file that I couldn't play, and I have succesfully played many mp4 files with them.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
Okay that worked
Now I'm really newbie when it comes to this... but how can I change it into a format that a DVD would play (it's like 500MB, but the conversion might be bigger than a CD I think) Most amazing jew boots ![]() ^By Auro from the FFXII board... Thanks ^^ |
ffdshow to play back almost everything, Haali's Splitter to play back mkv, avi, mp4 and ogm containers, and VSFilter to display subtitles. To play back the media on a stand alone DVD player, you will need to convert the file to MPEG-2 then author it onto a DVD. Look on sites such as VideoHelp and Doom9 for tutorials on your video format. (Could you tell us what it us?) Bear in mind the conversion will drastically reduce quality; since your source is already compressed, transcoding will probably result in nasty artifacts. FELIPE NO |
